View Full Version : Considering first PowerL competition.

I have been debating if I want to compete at an event in December. I have made some great progress the last month. I am concerned that I do not have any real equipment, only a belt and knee wraps. Will I be out of place without it?

Also what are some ways to prepare for an event on Dec. 9?

Bench 275
Squat 455
Dead 425

I am 6' and 230 lbs.

I just did my first meet on the 14th. Only gear I used was a belt and my numbers are quite a bit lower than yours. I also weigh 50lbs less then you! :p

Go for it! You'll learn a ton and meet people who can help you get into the real equipment.

Don't worry about equipment. There are usually at least a few guys/gals that lift raw, even in federations that allow lifters to be equipped to the gills.

Do it. You'll learn a ton and it will light a fire under you for training.

Go for it, you'll have a blast.

Yeah like everyone is saying, go for it. You will learn heaps from all the other people, the experience will do you good. I lift with a few powerlifters and they always have heaps of advice for me.

CMAND.. sounds like you are going to Vermont?? Are you doing the 100% Raw contest on Dec. 9th?

That's going to be my first contest too.. and we have similiar numbers..

So I say go for it.. don't worry about the belt.. you might be able to borrow someone's (if you are going to VT, you can borrow mine - although I haven't bought it yet)..

And most of all.. have fun..

Wow, are you guys all doing 100% Raw now? Maybe I'll have to do that instead of the Push/Pull now.

I say go for it...I was at the gym Tue and talking to a guy about one at our gym. I am considering it as well. I am far from being competitive and know there are some strong guys at my gym that would place far ahead of my...considering they are pressing 365 for 8 reps. The guy I was talking to told me he knows for a fact that most of those guys are juicing anyways. But i would use it more for a motivation tool...more than competing.

Come on Drew... it's only a couple of hours from CT.. up 91..
I started a thread on 100% Raw.. but only Guido had a response.. I was hoping a few more WBB'ers would be interested in Raw..

Kevin said he's going to that one. I am actually planning to go to Fair Haven VT for an APA meet on the same day.
