I have seen this phrase used alot around this forum, and I have searched and searched and I wasnt able to find what it means exactly.

What is the trouble with eating below maintenence, I am eating light with alot of protein rich foods to try and lose weight for wrestling. What would be defined as 'below maintenence' and how would it be harmfull

Eating less calories then you need to maintain your current weight. Basically eating less calories then you burn. How is it harmful? Well it shouldn't be harmful unless your lacking nutrition, kill your metabolism, lose excess LBM, or other side effects from low calorie dieting. If you do it correctly, ~10% below with plenty of fat and protein then all the bad stuff shouldn't happen.

yeh unreal is spot on. Maintanance cals are what you need to eat during the day to maintain you weight. Anything under and you should loose weight anything over and you should gain. Obviouse the more/less you are over/under this amount effects how much you loose/gain
