More of this cutting crap.

Today though, my goal is to relax. I have been so emotionally drained as of late that it makes even the minute details of life seem horrendous.

I'm wearing a pair of boxers that I haven't worn in about a year. I'm doing such because laundry has been the last thing on my mind. I'm telling you this because hidden within is a very important message, which is that when you wear boxer shorts that are far too small for you, your wang gets upset and refuses to stay inside the hole in the front. So, always dress to appease your wang folks; wear boxer shorts that fit. Thank you.

I'm realizing now that I'm getting far too few calories. I miss my oils a lot of the time and based on this some days I drop to 1600-1700 calories. Am I a ****ing idiot? Last night I was a little on the upset side, so I missed my last meal at work and my two chicken meals. I went to the BK lounge and got a chicken sammich to offset the calorie difference. Then I skateboarded it off. Bleeargh? Yes, bleaargh.

I ended up skateboarding last night and I pulled my motherfücking hamstring. It was agitated from skating last week and then doing a leg day, but I thought it was all better. I guess I'll just take it easy for today. May have to skip my leg workout tomorrow too. I need to go to the chiropractor anyhow.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Torpidity and Lethargy
I went out for a bit last night but came home early to watch TV. It was a bit cloudy so the ****ing satellite wouldn't pick up anything else, so we went to bed early and relaxed. I still ended up with about 7 hours of slumbah.

I'm in training all ****ing day **** **** ****. I'll be in training the rest of the mother****ing week. I went late so I got a front seat, so I can't even ignore it. So much for productivity.

HST?

Ok, I'm considering the option of using HST for a single cycle. I would finish my cut this week (testing maxes), start the deconditioning, then I'd be finished up right before thanksgiving. I've thought it out and I'm opting for doing this at work, since I can do negatives far easier with the ghey machines they have. Whatever I can't do negatives on, I'll repeat the 5's.

What I have so far :
leg press x2
leg curl x2
calf-raise x2
chest press x2 or (chest press x1 and cable flyes x1)
lat pulldown x1 [chins aren't high enough to get solid 15's]
neutral row x1
incline db curls x2
cable tricep pressdown x2
shrug (gonna have to use the smith machine, i guess) x2
lateral db raise x2

That's a ton of exercises. Before I make up my mind fully, I'm suggest someone advise me. Thank you.

Gal One thing that got me was that my gym is weird they dont have like 2.5 or 5 lb weights to use for progression on plate machines. I think it was like a 15lb jump on the pull down thing. Before you plan to use the pull down machines and the press down too. Make sure you'll be able to do a 5lb progression! Another thing... I dont know ive seen your shoulders but do you think you're going to be able to do a significant progressive load with lateral raises? It could get pretty heavy pretty quick.

Did someone say HST??

First of all, I know you've had problems with squats in the past - you mentioned you are getting a belt, though. Have you thought of alternating squats with leg presses? You could start very light with the squats, and doing them every five days or so should be alright on your lower back.

As far as negatives go, don't keep that from using free weights. I've never really used negatives, normally I keep increasing weights once I'm past the 5 rep cycle and get into 2 or 3 rep range. I also throw in a drop set or two after the heavy set, which Bryan and others have advocated quite a bit. This works out pretty well and I've increased strength nicely as a bonus.

I would do pulldowns only until you are in 10 reps, and then do chins...continuing to add weight if possible.

Drop lateral raises or at least drop it to one set. Might also want to drop the direct arm stuff to one set, depending on your conditioning.

Also, have you looked at this routine?

MONDAY
Tricep Kickbacks
5 lb DB's x 100

Cheat BB Curls
50 lbs x 20 + heavy cheating to impress da ladies

WEDNESDAY
1/8 squats with 3 plates per side (again, for the ladies)

Flexing in mirror static holds (1 minute each muscle group)

Chat with fitness bunnies (10 reps of 5 minutes, each bunny)

FRIDAY
This is a two-a-day:
AM
masturbation - 100 reps, left forearm

PM
masturbation - 100 reps, right forearm

Form is key on these - you don't want to start using your back like Belial does.

That would also be a nice alternative to HST.

Cut down on some of the arm work, and add in more work for the bigger muscle groups (ie back and chest). I would go with 3or4 sets for chest, same with back.

Get rid of the lateral raise, throw in a seated db shoulder press instead (or something to that effect)

 Gal, you know why. ;)

As to the HST. [list=1] With your back an issue for squats, I'd stick to the leg pressing. With your numbers you can progress incrementally very well.
If deads are not an issue on your back, then I'd add those in. It makes for a good transition from legs to upper body.
I liked doing a back/chest/back/chest to get in the two exercise for each of those muscle groups. So I'd likely do a pressing and dips or pressing and flies for the chest. Back could be the deads and rows.
I'm with fuzz on the laterals. Do they have a shoulder machine or at least go for db pressing where you have more weight to press - esp since you have uber massive shoulders. Also move the doing them right after chest instead of arms.
On the arms, make sure that you have enough room to progress on the db curls. If not maybe you can try the barbell curls if possible you maybe able to progress with 2.5lb plates.
I'd move calves to the end. dunno why really just never felt right doing them in the middle.
You might find volume to be an issue esp when you get to the lower reps and your intensity is on fire. Just drop some of the double sets down to one set.
You could also look into doing a smaller progression by changing the rep scheme every week. So do 15, 12, 10, 8, 5, 5, ... instead of 15, 15, 10, 10, 5, 5. It might give you some flexiblity in the weights you add per week.[/list=1]
Good luck on it.

Here are some responses, in no particular order.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif I can't squat at work, I can't lat pulldown at home, give and take. I pick one or the other, free weights or machines. I'm going to go with machines this time for various reasons. After this, I'll begin squatting plus it'll give me time to acquire a belt. I already have some of my maxes for these exercises, so it will make this far easier this time around.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif I'll probably increase the weight on the machines I can't do negatives with and do the 2-3 rep sets. Sounds like a good idea.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif I was going off of a basic template from Haycock, which is why I just chose 2 sets per part. I will likely drop the arm movements to 1 set a piece and the lateral raise to one set a piece. We have 1.25lb magnets at the gym at work, so I can progress with the lateral raises just fine. Plus, those are the most underworked and underdevloped part of my shoulder, so I may as well hit it a little.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif I can't do any overhead dumbbell work because of my back and I actually think that's benefitted me in the long run. My shoulders are huge compared to my arms, which pisses me off.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif Swapping pulldowns for chinups at 5 reps sounds like a decent plan.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif I won't be upping the chest and back to 3-4 sets. If I am working out 3x a week that'll be too much, especially when I hit the last day (with maximums). Well since I'll do a warmup set for each, it'll be sort of like 3 sets, heheh.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif Still not sold on the chest press over cable fly. I think the flyes tend to hit my chest better, which is a key part I need to bring up. My triceps are dominant bastards that wish to take over the world. Greedy sonsabitches. One each may be the way to go.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif I can't deadlift at work. I could split the workout into AM/PM, but I don't think I wanna go that hardcore this time.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif I didn't lay it out in the order of performance, but your suggestion of doing calves towards the end is duely noted.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif The first time through, I'm going to attempt to do it as close to the "suggested" plan as possible. I think finding maxes for all of those ranges would be a rush, especially since I plan on starting my SD this weekend. I am not even sure I'm gonna be able to get all my maxes in time as it is. I may get my chest maxes on Monday, then start SD the following day and pick up the routin e on the 29th (12 days of rest).

Thanks for all of the input, I'll post a modified plan later.

Yesterday I was feeling my stomach chub and it's doing the thing where it starts to soften up and separates more in certain areas. That's a sign that it is going away, so in honor of this event I am going to cut a little longer. I'm not really in any hurry anyhow. I shouldn't compare myself to other people and their progress, because it'll just piss me off. I need to focus on my progress and get myself to a place I want to be.

On that note, still gonna figure out my maxes fairly soon. I'd like to try HST at some point. If it doesn't bore me to death, then I'll use it.

treadmill cardio : 25 minutes 10.0°@ 3.4

I did well today. Hit all of my numbers. I feel I'm getting stronger, which is also odd. I did cable curls with the whole stack, which made me feel tough. Ok, not really. I impressed the gym chicks though. Then, I went over to the rope pulldown that the guy before me was doing and while he rested I did it with one arm. Again, this made me feel tough. Ok, it really didn't. I was just trying to see what kind of weight I could do with one arm with decent form. It was 80lbs, which was fairly difficult, but I dug it. Might be a good thing for HST, since I need the extra weight to make worth while progressions. The cardio was meh. I read some more Men's Fitness. Today I learned that you need to do compound movements to get huge. You also should skip the compounds and do isolations if you wanna get huge. At that point, I closed it and watched a music channel on closed captioning.

I've had an absolutely treacherous diet weekend. I did not eat anywhere close to what I should. A few days I barely got any calories at all and a few I ate just crap. It kills me how a few days can screw things up. I'm preparing for my bulk now, but in the mean time I'm going to cut a few more pounds off.

I feel slightly better today than yesterday, but I'm not at full health. Anytime there is a large fluctuation in temperature and weather system I end up harboring some evil 2-3 day illness. I can barely function, so I'm usually just torpid for the duration.

I ordered a powerlifting belt today. It's an Inzer 10mm black double prong supah-dupah belt. It cost $69, which is far less than I've spent on other weight lifting **** (especially for my back). I think I've been a fool not to get something sooner. My chiropractor called me the other night calling for a favor, so I'll get to see him sometime soon to get my back aligned. I long for the squats, so I'm now reconsidering my HST plan as well. I know I can be more consistent (and have more energy) working out at the gym, but I'm not sure if the trade-off is worth it.

Um, back on track again. Sort of...

I didn't have any food in the house yesterday or this morning and I was too tired to go to the store, so I had to make what I had work. So, today, I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing. I'm in need of a few more calories so somewhere along the lines I'm going to have to eat something else today. I definitely need to go shopping.

Today was a one-legged extravaganza! The one legged leg press is insane and I loved it. I didn't have to carry around so many plates and I worked both legs more evenly. Excellent. Hamstring curls sucked, as usual, but the glute ham raise totally owned. TOTALLY. The only thing baffling I read in Men's Fitness was that excess protein induces ketosis. I think they need a more knowledgable editor.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Torpidity and Lethargy
I went to bed at 11:00 and the girlfriend came in at 11:30, which woke me up. I didn't fall back asleep for a little bit and it pissed me off. The alarm was set for 6:14 and 2 snoozes later it was 6:36. I'd say to be fair I got about 7.25 hours of sleep and I hate getting up.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Palaver
This morning was teh suck. Since I didn't feel well all weekend, not much got done around the house, so lots of stuff is lying around and things are in shambles. The alarm rings and I am as comfortable as I have ever been. It was the perfect temperature, the woman was laying perfectly with me, and the cats were at the foot of the bed. <hits snooze> 11 minutes later, I know I should get up but I'm just so damned comfortable that I can't do it. <hits snooze> FÜCK! It's late and I should be half ready by now...so I jump the **** out of bed running towards the kitchen. On the way I trip over the laundry basket and face plant into the door frame, leaving me even more dazed than I'd normally be. I screamed, "**** you you ****ing piece of **** laundry basket!" It seemed unfazed by my insults, so I just moved along feeling defeated. I open the cupboard to get my shaker cup and realize that I didn't do dishes all weekend. Whoops. I grab the lunch box off of the top of the shelves and open it up. At that exact moment many of my greatest fears had been actualized. The smell was so potent that the space around the bottles seemed to distort as if I was in possession of a pocket-sized black hole. I started to cough incessantly, as I grabbed the mother****ers and through them into the sink. I emptied about a half bottle of Joy brand lemon liquid dish soap into the sink and ran the water full blast. The pungent smell permeated the pores of my flesh and no amount of scrubbing could purge the stank from my hands, yet I kept at it with my head turned and my eyes closed. It's late, I'm stinky, and I'm still in a wife-beater and boxers...

I open the fridge to find that I have nothing but beer inside. I can't exactly drink beer all day at work, so I load up on the things I have in stock. By "things" I mean tuna. Lovely...a day full of tuna. I grab the bottle of driver from atop the refrigerator and open it up. A brilliant thought hit as I began to dig out the scooper: I have nothing to ****ing put the ****ing protein in. Ok, minor setback. I grab a plastic cup from the dishwasher and begin to clean. I mix the driver in, shake it up and pour it into a tall glass, which I also had to clean. Then I clean the plastic cup again and dry it so I can put my post-workout shake inside. Now, it's about 3 minutes until when I am supposed to leave for work and I still haven't done anything aside from dishes. I wrestle with the girlfriend for use of the bathroom and finally get out of the house. I'm so friggen tired that I can barely stand it and of course traffic is horrible coming in. I made it in a half-hour late, which means I get to stay a half-hour late. Woo hoo.

Teh End.

Eventhough it was Tuesday, it felt like Monday since I was sick the previous day. Seems typical though, since my life is ne'er without event. Tuna is good, but not in such large quantities. I'm becoming a large fan of strengthening the hamstrings, the more I read. Aside from my calves, my hamstrings are one of my weakest qualities so they could definitely use the attention.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif mik
No problem man. There is bound to be something in that article that you could put to good use!

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif scott
I'm typically left bemused by these situations, but I'm glad they can leave others amused. Leaving the woman in bed definitely sucks, especially as the cold weather hits. This morning was another 3 snoozer. I definitely need to break that habit. I have not yet read that book, but it looks quite interesting. I'm currently knee-deep in "Darwin's Black Box." It's a very detailed description of how evolution through minor steps cannot occur due to the irreducibly complex systems that exist on a molecular level. So, aside from your basic principles of Natural Selection, most of what Darwin thought was incorrect. Natural Selection deals more with the passing along of genetic code (due to the ability to breed), where his evolution theories were based on "random variations" and "small steps." It's enthralling!

The moment I quit this freaking cutting business, I'm definitely going to work on getting my hamstrings' stength up. They seem to be the limiting factor in my squat at the moment.

So you like those lat machine GHR's? Did you get some funny looks too? :D

galileo

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif gnarly bitch
Tell me about it! This cut is absolutely killing me. I have so many things I'd like to do, but I feel like I'll never be able to see the effect if I'm cutting. On the squat tip, my belt is out of stock for 3-5 business days so I'll likely not get it in for another week or so. That'll at least give me time to rehab anything that might be wrong with my back.

I loved the lat machine GHR, aside from one minor issue. The ass pad is too long and I'd much rather have my knees hang over the end. I used a towel to prop up the very top of my shins, but I think I'd feel better if I was less limited. I tried some on the floor, wedging my feet under some machines, but the knees rubbed way too much. The lat machine will work for now! Funny looks? You bet. The "director" of the gym stared at me through his little "view" window in disbelief the entire time. A lady actually came up to me and told me she had never thought of doing that and that she wanted to give them a shot. I told her they were superior to the leg curls she was incessantly doing, but she left without even giving it a try. I am looking forward to the day I can do them completely unassisted and then eventually with added weight.

Most awesome. I love the spiritual side of life, but hate Catholicism. This is a dichotomy that I am seeing more and more often. Catholicism embodies all of the things I perceive to be negative about religion and they are most likely the leading reason that people become atheist.

Thanks for posting! You pretty much hit the nail on the head. Like I said, I use a towel to keep my knees from resting on the pad, but I use my arms for assistance, not the lat machine. The machine might be a good idea though, because empirical progression could be displayed.

My legs are unbelievafückinbly sore this morning. My hamstrings were screaming from the moment I got out of bed. I do, however, feel that I need to do something different for my calves, because the leg press just isn't cutting it. I measured my calves cold flexed this morning and they were only 14.5". By far the weakest point on my physique, but with any luck when I bulk they'll get a little size. I attribute my hamstring soreness solely to the glute ham raises, but I did some other weird **** I forgot to log. I did this exercise on the hyperextension where you remove on leg from the pad and raise it as you hyperextend. It's in the same article I linked for Mik to read about the hamstring exercises. Someday, once I reach my size goals (soon, I hope), I think I'll head more towards powerlifting practices. I'd love to give Westside a shot, but I'll likely need to wait until I get a house so I can get a power rack. Then, it'd be worth it to get some bands and other toys to try weird techniques with (like that hamstring stomp on the painful seven).

I looked fairly lean in the mirror today despite my best efforts to **** up my diet this weekend. I think the cardio is might be what is making the difference. I can't believe I didn't suck it up and just do it sooner. More HIT mentality that cardio was pointless, I guess. Eventhough I haven't done HIT in forfückingever, some of the tenets still linger. The one positive thing I retained from HIT was keeping things simple. I think that can be infinitely valuable if applied properly. But, yeah, I need to focus extremely hard on two things in order to keep leaning up. 1. Keep food in the house 2. Keep my weekends in order. Those are the things that kill me. Plus, I should probably get the beer out of the ****ing refridgerator.

I just read that they're developing the MegaMan collection for GCN/PS2! The disc will include 1-8, which were a huge part of my youth. I love this trend of rereleasing old games! I'm increasing the dextrose content in my pre/during/post workout shake. I need the calories and I think with my activity during consumption it'll go to good use.

I can see that I'm making progress, eventhough I've been slightly lackadaisical (at least on the diet tip). It's not the l-carnitine, since I haven't really been using it much. Perhaps the green tea/taurine? Those are the big additions with which I've been consistent. I need every little bit of help I can get, so I'll just stick on them until I run out.

treadmill cardio : 20 minutes 1.0°@ 3.0
supah dupah stretching : 10 minutes

Excellent workout! I feel so calm and relaxed right now. After reading about my new hero (see Palaver), I opted to stretch after my cardio today, which I think is a great idea. My workouts are beginning to run a little long, but perhaps it is worth it. The chest press was a big PR as I struggled a little with the 16 + 7.5 mark last week. The cable flyes were difficult because I pulled my left lateral delt slightly (likely in sleep) and that's one of the muscles needed to get the handles down to a good place. I may try some lying cable flyes next week to switch things up. Only 3 more plates left on the chest press, but by the time I get there, I'll be benching at home again. I didn't care for the supinated cable pressdowns very much. It felt like the position of my hand was restrictingthe motion. As I brought it down, my hand wanted to turn to the neutral position, but it really couldn't. I think I'll do rope next time. I read the new issue of Men's Fitness today and learned that stunt men don't do squats and that airbrushing can make your abs look phenomenal.

I've found a new hero. Someone that I unintentially modelled my life after. This hero is, Joe Rogan. He has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do (like me), he practices Muay Thai (like me), he is all about comedy (like me), and he loves boobies (um...like me!). I mean, come on! How much more similar could I get? Turns out he is pretty ripped. He's on the cover if this months Men's Fitness and he looks solid. His legs are way smaller than I expected (and not nearly as lean as the rest of him, incidently) though, but his arms and chest look good. I've considered attempting some stand-up at local clubs numerous times, but I never follow through. I am not afraid when it comes to music, because I'll only do it if it is something I am proud of and I am confident in my skills. As far as stand-up, the most I've ever done was amuse groups of 10 people or less at a restaurant telling dead baby jokes or making fun of someone. If no one laughed and all I got was stares I'd likely find something high and jump. Ok, I'm tired and have to do more work.

I have a feeling that you are starting to feel more comfortable with your body along with it looking better. Sounds like you are making some good progress and seeing it and believing it (big point there) is a great motivator. Keep chugging along man! I don't think that the weekends are really all that bad just as long as they aren't totally whacked out and completely out of control. I've used them as motivators through my cut. Slacking off and half way planning refeeds intot them gave me some slack to play around and that also helped to relieve the tension and stress of dieting too. Don't get too strung out on it but don't worry about them too much either. Let the structure of the work week handle what might be a bit of an overflow on those weekends. My 2¢ anyway. :)

Yeah, I’m slightly more comfortable as the fat comes off. I lifted my shirt in the gym and looked in the mirror under the fluorescents and saw some rib/ab action that I hadn't seen at the gym before. I try to keep fairly structured during the week and I think the weekends are moderate in calories, but those calories are typically from most heinous food sources. I think the cardio during the week is helping pick up the slack of the weekends. Unfortunately, I don't have the metabolism to support continually performing these actions, but I always consider that when it happens. Peer pressure sucks too, because my friends have been drinking every weekend and they always end up dragging me into it. The more progress I see the more motivated I end up getting though, so I will be taking it easy this weekend for sure. I always tell myself that the quicker I get lean the quicker I'll be ready to bulk! Thanks brotha!

I may be moving to Toronto in a few years (it's a definite option). Maybe you won't stand me up like you stand up Jeff. ;)

Yeah, I know all of that ****. I started when I was 8 years old, so I've had a good 16 years to try my hand at various styles. The biggest thing is, once you know one, the rest (of similar type) are extremely simple. Tae Kwon Do was my original style, which lead to TSD, etc. In my opinion there are only a few basic styles that all others spin-off. Snap-technique (tkd, tsd, kempo), Power-technique (Muay Thai, American Kickboxing), Take-down/grappling (jujitsu, aikido), and weapons (kali escrima). If you are a master of one, you could easily transition to another within the group. When I went to take Kempo and Jeet Kune Do, I progressed through a good deal of the ranks within a month (then quit, incidently). My original sensei had told me that I had a natural gift, so I guess I am somewhat fortunate? My biggest problem at the moment is nothing is close enough to me to be worthwhile. Once I move closer to a city I'll be pursuing Muay Thai to its fullest extent. Maybe someday I'll take a bad-ass picture in my gear, heh.

With the comedy thing, I have some jokes written (nothing I could type here, they're more of a presentation), based on my insane life. Sometimes I will find a segue in conversation to lead into one of them and I can usually pull some great laughs. Last night I decided to try it on my friends and their parents and I felt a little better about myself, but these are people who know me. Could I amuse strangers in the same manner? I guess the worst that could happen was that I look like an ass in front of people I'll never see again. I have loads of stories that people enjoy hearing (because of the utilization of hyperbole), but I think they're funnier if you know me. I don't know, perhaps I'll try to put together about 15 minutes worth of material and try it out. If no one laughs, I'll just go into a rampage and beat the entire audience's ass.

My weight was 169 this morning and upon first looking in the mirror I thought I looked decent. My calipers for the morning put me under 11%, but that's still high. Calipers measure very optimistically as well, so I'm likely 37% or so. Then I took a picture and compared it to 3 weeks ago. If anything, I look worse. The picture was a little blurry, but it was a bad start to the day. Then as I pull onto the highway I realize that I left my workout clothing on the recliner. Holy ****, what's going on today? Did I do something horribly wrong? My shoulder also feels 10x worse this morning. I'm not sure what it is, but if you do the arm motion like you're about to say, "I AM THE GREAT CORNHOLIO!" then that's the point where excruciating pain runs throughout the area underneath my lateral and front delt. It's not that muscle, it's probably some tendons or something. So yeah, pain, fat, and no chance for cardio. Great day. The one thing I look forward to at work right now is going to the gym and losing an hour. ****.

Last night I was more productive than I'd been in a long time. I got home with a very specific agenda, which I actually accomplished. I went to the grocery store, bought tickets to see Thursday on the 19th, bought an oil paint set, canvas, and easel for my girlfriend and I, plus I picked up the new A Perfect Circle and Thursday CD's. I felt like I'd accomplished a ton for the first time in many evenings. I'm tired of coming home and just sitting around and eventually falling asleep. Accomplishment felt good for a change.

I purchased the Ultimate Diet 2.0 today. Read it all, was pretty much the same as when I read it a few months back. I'm considering giving it another shot. Can't really hurt much, aside from my social life. But I'd rather do something I feel I need to be 100% dedicated to in order for it to work. That'll give me more motivation. If I run this diet about 6 weeks I should hit my goals. Then, if I like it, I can switch it up to promote anabolism. It's versatile in that manner. Anyhow, after today I'm just flustered. A change up will do me well.

I own food. What an amazing difference.

I think there is a severe problem with mega-potency fish oil because they are causing me digestive issues. Primarily, they aren't digesting. I'm gonna switch up my diet again to 6 meals which should allow for slightly more content per meal so perhaps they'll digest better. The smell of partially digested fish oil is simply wretched.

What is the difference between this one and the Ketogenic Diet book? I already have that one, and with me going on a bulk next month.....

This new one is supposedly "the last diet you'll ever need" Would you agree with that? Does it cover bulking diets as well?

Alright, here's the deal; The goal of this diet is not necessarily ketosis, although it can easily happen. The goal is [extremely] restricted calories for a short term followed by high calories followed by moderate calories. He provides methods to switch it around to bulk without fat gain, increase strength, and a few other variants. I think the best part of the book is the information posted before the diet where he describes a lot of the body's reactions to diet (hypo and hypercaloric). I have a friend who did this for six weeks and while cutting increased his stagnant leg press from 10pps to 16pps. So, to sum it up, it's a lot different from the ketogenic diet. The only things similar are depletion workouts and cyclical caloric (carbs, mostly) intake. It's worth a measly $19.95. If it is successful and you are sadistic, it could be the last diet plan you ever need. I don't love the training split, so I'm not sure I'd use it while bulking.

I don't suppose that you would have to follow the training splits while on the diet would you? I used the basic principles of the carb restriction but didn't follow the training split from the first book with pretty good results. I'm gonna pick up the book regardless, but is following the specific training split in the book imepritive as long as you adhere to the diet strictly?

lol!

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif justineff
Well, in my opinion if you were cutting it would behoove you to follow it at least the first time you tried it. The reason being you are only restricting calories for ~3.75 days, so you need to deplete your glycogen nearly completely in order for the massive refeeding to be of any anabolic value. It's certainly different than a CKD, where you have some room to "play" based on how your body reacts to low carbs. Once you read the book, you'll likely understand my point of view better.

I felt a bit leaner today when I got up, so after the morning piss I did a mirror check. I looked leaner than yesterday as well. That struck me as odd since last night for my last few meals I had a Hardee's [Carl's Jr. for you west coast ****s] breaded chicken sammich and a few hours later a grilled chicken sammich (sans the mayo). I wanted to get my calories up slightly because I didn't take my fish oil, so I guess it balanced out. I took some caliper measurements and they were all .5mm smaller than yesterday morning, which by caliper puts me at 10.5%. That sounds well and good, but love handles and lower chest fat skews that quite a bit. But that all ends today as I start my maintenance. My carbs are being increased to around 200g (virtually all dry oatmeal, since I'm evil), which leaves me other macros roughly the same. I'm not sure now if I want to stay at maintenance until this coming Monday or the following. I'm an impatient moron, which is why I've made a lot of the progress that I have, but also why I've not made some progress that I should've. I guess it'll all come down to how my shoulder feels. Actually, I should probably weight for the shipping confirmation on my belt, so I don't hurt my back squatting.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Prandial Promulgation
I'm not taking ephedrine until I'm back on the diet. Coffee will keep me moving.

I'm not thinking of this as maintenance as much as resetting my metabolism without gaining back the lost weight. That way, I'll stick to it and I won't become a fat piece of **** again.

I was tired early and didn't nap so I went to bed around 11:00. At 3:16 my girlfriend jumped up with a scream and started crying exorbitantly and latched onto my neck like I was the last chopper out of Saigon. After she calmed down a bit, she explained that she had one of those realistic dreams that I was dead. She still thought I was dead for about a minute after she woke up, which is what caused her to flip the **** out. Lovely. She told me violently, "never do that again." I was like, "what the hell did I do?" Listen and listen good. When your significant other is crying at 3:16 in the morning, just agree with anything she has to say. After all the drama and chaos, I ended up with about 7.5 hours of slubah.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Palaver
Today I heard one of the dumbest things I'd heard in a long time. My girlfriend's mom handed her a baked potato at lunch and told her, "Here, eat this. It doesn't have any calories." At that moment I contemplated whether murder for the good of the species was indeed justifiable. That, of course, reminded me of the stupidest thing that I'd ever heard uttered from a person's mouth. A fat man who spoke of his new diet the morning prior was sitting at his desk eating sour patch kids. I made a inquiry about how that fit into his new diet. He told me, without the slightest hint of sarcasm or wit, that "the sour cancelled out the sweet (sugar)." Holy ****ing ****. There is nothing more to be said about that.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Addendum
I'm working on my workout structure for the diet. Not sure if I'm going to start on a monday or a tuesday yet, but the depletion workout will look something like the following. Note that all of the exercises will be done for 3 sets of 15 except for the arms, which will be done for 2 set of 15.

Initial Depletion [repeated twice]
         · 45° leg press
         · cybex leg curl
         · cybex chest press
         · cybex neutral row
         · lateral raise
         · calf-raise
         · ez-bar curl
         · tricep pushdown

The final depletion workout will be done for 2 sets of 12.

Final Depletion
         · 45° leg press
         · cybex leg curl
         · cybex leg extension
         · lat machine glute ham raise
         · calf-raise
         · cybex chest press
         · cybex neutral row
         · incline cable flyes
         · chinups
         · lateral raise
         · ez-bar curl
         · tricep pushdown

The power workout will be done on the weekend, so I can use free weights at home. The first week I'll do 2 sets of 3-6 and I will adjust as I go. These will be done by groups, alternating each pair.

Power
         · squat
         · calf-raise

         · bench press
         · barbell row

         · incline dumbbell press
         · neutral grip weighted chinup

         · trapbar deadlift
         · lateral raise

         · thickbar curl
         · weighted dips

This will give me a chance to do the exercises I care about at home, when my glycogen stores are full and progression will have meaning. Perhaps I can get my bench press up to 225 for reps, which has been a long term goal for me. I keep getting close [215x8], but something always stops me.

Anyway. About this fish oil issue.

Maybe it's just the Kilosportz brand that bothers you. (Which would be incredibly annoying, considering that you probably had to buy about seventeen thousand of them.) I have NEVER had any trouble with fish oil giving me burps (I have the digestive system of a carrion-eater, apparently)......but Costco's fish oil caps give me fish burps. (Again, it being Costco, I had bought a bottle big enough to last me my entire natural lifespan.)

I'd rather waste money than burp, so I gave them to my lifting partner. (I was mad at him at the time.) So, my advice is, just try another brand.

I found a liquid (that DOESN'T taste bad) from Health from the Sun. It's called "Ultra Omega 3 Fish Oil" - it's molecularly distilled, and one teaspoon has 850 mg EPA and 560 mg DHA! And no fish burps!

I tried Carlson's liquid fish oil once. I couldn't figure out a way to drink it without having the taste in my mouth for hours afterwards. So that was $12 down the drain.

Now I just get Sundown brand from the local supermarket...at least it ensures quick turnover = less oxidation.

So much for the iPOD! I knew I posted in here earlier this morning but I think Isabel struck in here over the weekend and the cleanup wasted my post as well. Have to get back to you on the MP3 player thing dude....I can't remember the name of it but it was one of the great things about being a husband ( a wifey gift!) 256mb ram plenty for me...I did find a link to it some time ago I think for JustinF....all I can say is GET one and consider starting a bikini waxing sweatshop instead! :evillaugh

I've only had a shake and some coffee so far (plus some fish oil), and I'm not too hungry yet. Wish I could use EC ...I will get some Subdue pretty soon, though.

Also, if you don't stick to your diet, I will make you eat the pubic hair sandwich the mexicans will make. After I haven't showered for three days. With 20 fish oil caps on top.

I'll be posting my diet after I workout this afternoon, so you can get a feel as to how I'm approaching it. Let's keep each other motivated with threats! Today is the day. I am probably going to run my cut until halloween, then start my bulk the beginning of November.

I did my official caliper measurements and weigh in this morning.
Weight : 169
Ab : 13.5mm
Pec : 6.5mm
Thigh: 15mm
BF% : 9.89%

This was quite inaccurate, based on how I look. But I will use it as a guideline to my progress. Taking the results on the first day may be slightly deceiving due to the carb cycling that is going to happen, but I'm sure I'll be all OCD about it and do it more often. For the most part I've found that my bodyfat looks to be about 3-site % + 2%, putting me at a little under 12%, by the mirror. That sounds appropriate.

The weekend was fun. I was going to drink at my friend house, but I owned everyone at beer pong, so I ended up only drinking about 1 beer total. My mad-phat skills helped me to avert a near disaster yet again.

I'm back to ephedrine hcl and caffeine. Godspeed.

I started on Yohimburn again because I had some left from before. It's difficult to tell if it worked or not, especially because when I used it I was losing weight fairly easily. I don't know why it is harder for me to lose weight with +20lbs of lbm, but I think God is not without a sense of irony. Anyhow, the lower chest fat came off last time when I used it consistently, so this time around I'm going to use it on my low calorie days and see how it works out.

First depletion workout. This is going to be brutal...

  · 45° leg press
    4ppsx15, x15, x15
  · cybex leg curl
    60x15, x15, 50x15

    100x15, 80x15, x15

  · lateral raise
    15x15, 8x15
  · calf-raise (on cybex lying leg press)
    110x15, x15, x15
  · cable curl
    100x15, x15
  · tricep pushdown
    100x15, x15

I was feeling ****ty as soon as I hit the hamstring curl. By the time I finished the last tricep pushdown I had to run to the bathroom and throw up. I'm still feeling horrible as I type this, so I won't go into any details right now. I must be a huge ****ing pussy...

Last night I just chilled. I watched the Joe Schmo Show and a Nip/Tuck, then lights out. I ended up with 7 hours of beddy-time g00dness.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Palaver
I went to see the band Thursday on Friday <cough> and it was a very good show. The opening bands were Death by Stereo and Year of the Rabbit. Death by Stereo was perhaps the worst band I'd seen in a very very long time. Atrocious. However, YOTR was ****ing amazing. They had such an amazing feel to their live show that after the first song I bought a CD. The CD isn't quite the same, but it's still ****ing great. I will definitely go see them again anytime they return. I feel so lucky this week! I got four CD's and they all rock! A Perfect Circle, Thursday, Year of the Rabbit, and Anatomy of a Ghost. I've never been so lucky with music since I joined Columbia House when grunge was the big thing. The sad thing about the show was that there were a lot of people there who were big ****ing pricks. This one guy walked in front of where my girl and I were standing to tell his friend something. So, I gave him a minute to finish what he had to say and get out of there. Well, when he finished he just kind of stood there with his arm on the I-beam that ran to the ceiling. So, I took my left arm and placed it firmly on his lat and threw him to the left with perhaps too much force. He turned and looked at me with at first an angry look, but it quickly turned apologetic. He said he was sorry a few times and left. About 10 minutes later he came back over toward his friend. He wanted to tell him something, but rather than stepping in my way he tried to yell for his attention. When that didn't work, he just walked away. My friends and I got a kick out of that. Then this douche bag kept bumping into me and hitting me with his elbow, so I told my one friend to count how many times I have to hit him before he leaves. So once, every 10 seconds or so, the dude got a firm elbow to his ribs or back. 30 seconds later, he and his friend retreated back to the bar. Eventful evening.

It was quite grueling. Guess what? I get to do it again today...I'm going to eat closer to workout time because I think having only liquid in my stomach promoted the nausea.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif heath
It's all part of being me! The eating is definitely not a big deal. In fact, yesterday was perfect (aside from the fish oil I may or may not have puked up).

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif fuzz
I ate at 11:00 and worked out at 1:00, throwing up about 1:45. I was very quickly depleted during this workout and I really didn't "carb load" as much as "fat load" this weekend. I had nothing in my stomach at the time so I was throwing up water/bile in the bathroom. I ran in and tried to hold it in, but just in case I went into a stall to wait. Well, some ****ING MOTHER****ER DOUCHE BAG didn't flush his ****, so I saw it and puked uncontrollably for a solid 10 minutes. Even showering felt miserable. The drive home was bad too. My head felt full and heavy. I took a 45 minute nap when I got home (half-hour drive, ugh) and woke up feeling almost 100%. Today I'll make a few different descisions to see how it affects me.

Die.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif scott
If you look back through, I explain it to justineff. Essentially, it's carb cycling, but with minimal fat/protein. So the first day, as you can see, I eat low carbs/cals. Then the end of the fourth day I move to insanely high carbs, then a few days of moderate carbs, then back to low. It's very very worth the $20, because you get more than just a diet. It's 77 pages of information on how your body works, which is very valuable on its own. You don't hit ketosis, so it isn't a CKD, but I can see how people would think that. I'm currently at about 70g net carbs, so not going to fall into ketosis.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif justineff
To say the least. I'm going to need a lot of luck to not get sick again today. I don't know how the **** one would be expected to repeat that workout twice in one sitting...

Be warned, if you're not used to this type of training, be prepared for some serious discomfort. Nausea, intense muscular burning and fatigue are going to be your new friends on these workouts. In fact, if you don't feel all these sensations and more, you're not working hard enough.

No download!! Support the artist!! Actually, if you want to sample the CD, pick up the songs "Rabbit Hole" and "Lie Down." Great songs. I really think it was due to working out at a fast pace for high reps and sets on an food-less water-filled stomach. We'll see today, I guess. I'm going to lower the weight used and slow down a bit.

I looked flat this morning. My weight is down to 167, so I lost some glycogen as planned, so that's a positive. If I can get through the workout today I should lose a few more pounds. When I went to my parents' last night, my mother told me I looked muscular before and I looked small now. I almost cried, but I held back. I realize I am depleted, which would make me look flat, plus I was wearing a very loose shirt whereas I normally wear things that are more form-fitting. Then this morning, I was discussing my diet with a coworker and she told me that I looked smaller already. Bah. Again, I know why but you can't help but be disheartened when everyone tells you how small you look.

This morning I looked fairly lean, but my chest was retaining some water from the Yohimburn. I expected this, so it isn't a big deal. I rubbed some on my love handles this morning because I'm noticing they are sticking around, probably to see if I puke again. Damn love handles are always taunting me.

My knees have been aching since my last leg workout. Either the one-legged movements or the extra hamstring work must've strained something. Praying to the glucosamine gods today.

OH MY ****ING GOD, I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's how it went: I popped 25mg of ephedrine and some GT/Taurine and headed to the gym. By the second set of leg presses my legs started to burn so I felt uneasy about it. The third set proved to be much better though and I continued. Chest press was rough for a few, but the last set was sweet. The weight felt like it was moving itself for a while. The rows were hard for the first 3 sets, ****. The lateral raises were easy to start, but the muscle is so small it burns out very very easily. The second set made me feel like satan was tapdancing on my ****ing shoulder. Calf-raises burned like usual. Arm work sucked. Alright, I've gone through the workout once and I am out of breath, not too pukey, but my arms are crushed. **** it, I'll do it again. Once I started the leg press, I entered "the zone." I closed my eyes and just ****ing pressed. Chest press, row, lateral raise, and so on. All zonified! The last set of curls followed by pushdowns was the end of me. I failed on both sets. I selected the perfect weight. This was probably the hardest workout I've ever done. I'm totally spent.

I am totally out of it and dizzy so I head to the locker room (accidently taking the clipboard with me). I struggle for 5 full minutes to remove my shirt and wife beater. My beater was quite loose this morning, but it was so tight on me now that I couldn't remove it. If I would have had a pair of scissors I would've cut the ****ing thing off and not thought twice. I showered in warm water then switched to ice cold because I was so tense and overheated. The cold water felt great. I looked in the mirror afterward and my jaw dropped to the floor. What the hell is this? I see a decent outline of six of my abs! My shoulders and arms look huge, and get this...my chest..it SQUARED OFF ON THE BOTTOM! I've never ever looked this good in my life! This was truly amazing. I know it was just a pump and water weight going away, but I felt good about myself. Now, if I only didn't hurt all over...

I saw the weirdest ****ing thing on the way to work this morning. A riced-out Hyundai Accent. It had a huge spoiler (for the large amount of down-force needed with the monsterous 104hp engine), altezza tail lights, and a huge coffee-can exhaust. I laughed for a second, but then I started feeling bad for the retard driving that car with the delusion that it was cool. I mean, if I couldn't afford a car nicer than an Accent, I certainly wouldn't put $1000 into making it look ridiculous, would you?

The reaons I didn't puke :

  · Ate within an hour of working out.
  · Sipped water infrequently, instead of drinking a lot.
  · Made each rep slow and deliberate, making it less taxing on my CVS and more on my muscles.
  · Alternated the sets of opposing muscle groups more often.

OH duder. That's funny you said that. I was going to say you should try snacking on something before you work out and not drinking too much water. I pwned that vomit monstah. I considered the meal factor yesterday, but I thought 11:00 was close enough. I was wrong. Also, I remember back in my HIT days I would wake up, take some ECA and do 20 rep squats, then puke. HIT is the reason I'm such a gimp today, damnit.

My legs still aren't fully depleted, to be honest. I think they are going to require some sets of 20 next week. Lucky enough, there is a final depletion workout on Thursday where I can take care of that. Otherwise, my arms are fully depleted and still feel pumped a full hour after my workout, so I really don't think you'll have any problems. If you deplete until the day of the show, do your depletion workout, then take in some huge protein/carb shakes your body will put most of the carbs right in your poor muscles. Read Lyle's book and you'll probably get some good ideas.

The perceptions thing--your own or someone else's--can be untrustworthy. Like you mentioned, it can depend on how you feel (you feel crappy, you think you look crappy; you feel great, you think you look great) and your clothes, most definitely. And family can't be trusted. Whenever I've put on some muscle, my mom tells me I look like I'm getting fat :(

I have good days and bad days, I know. When I was 190 my mother asked if I stopped lifting, so I know she has little clue. But if I am having a bad day and someone reinforces it, then I get slightly bothered. But I hang in there! And thanks, it was an intense experience that I'll be reliving at least 12 more times. YAY.

It didn't hit me until last night. I was so ****ing hungry it was ridiculous and I couldn't do much about it. I was nauseaous-hungry around 6:30 (2 hours after my previous "feast"), so I ate my cottage cheese meal to stave off the pangs. I was watching television and a KFC commercial came on and it almost killed me. The thought of juicy, greasy popcorn chicken made me salivate and thrash about the apartment. I drank my ass-flavored casein drink and made my way to bed. I hope tonight I can keep my mind off of food better. I fixed some sugar free jello last night so I can have something to snack on this evening. Ugh.

The outline was a nice touch, but the pump really made me feel great. Last night though, my legs looked like they lost about 4" from the depletion. Don't tease me with your talk of high calories. I'm swigging down ephedrine with gulps of coffee to try to keep my mind off of it.

I woke up and took a glance at my tiny physique and noticed I was significantly leaner this morning than Monday. I took a picture just to be sure and I'll be damned...it looked better. So, I take an ab pinch and blizzzaagooo! 12.5mm! That's 1mm loss over the last 2 days. I weighed myself to see if I had lost more water and I hadn't. I'm still 167, depleted. My knees are aching. Just what I need, more cardio.

  · cardio
    40 minutes moderate intensity

I slathered yohimburn all over my titties and headed to the gym. My calves were sore, my legs were stiff, and I had to take a ****. All three I didn't realize until about 5 minutes on the treadmill. Then, the mother****ing portable receiver device they use to allow television kept dying, so after a while I discovered the television controller used the same size batteries. But, until I swapped them I had to hit power every 10 seconds or so to actually hear the ****ty music that MTV2 was playing. I stared at a picture in the Men's Fitness magazine, trying to pretend that he did it without drugs, superior genetics, and photoshop. I convinced myself that I could be that lean. The sad thing is that looking in the mirror after looking at one of those dudes just pisses me off. Whatever.

This morning I was down to 12.25. I bet a bit little will come back once I refeed, but considering that the beginning of last week I was ~16mm, I am thinking that I may come out on the good end. This morning I was even leaner looking than yesterday, but I was extremely depleted, so it's a give and take.

I'm taking 1600mg (400mg ECGC) twice a day with caffeine. If you go to 1fast400.com and check out the articles, they provide studies that show that concentrations of 400mg ECGC are ideal and if you take less it will perhaps work far less effectively. Just giving it a shot.

Yesterday, it was almost like I was a walking zombie, not really caring or giving anything as much as the slightest bit of attention. My girlfriend asked me if I was upset with her because I seemed far more distant than I had been in a long time. I explained to her the low calories had been stealing my verve, but of course she still thought I was being purposeful. At work I accomplished little to nothing, because frankly, I just didn't give two ****s about bein there. I wasn't hungry, as others had documented, but I had more than enough coffee to stave off the cravings that I may have had. The evening brought the same nausea and immediate hunger as the previous ones, but eating stopped the feelings almost instantly. As I went to bed I was filled with excitement at the thought of my dinner the following evening. On the menu will be spaghetti, grilled chicken, fat-free mozarella, with fat-free ice cream for dessert. It's perhaps the only thing keeping me going as I know I wouldn't survive another day at this level.

I didn't sleep well all evening, waking several times feeling uneasy. The alarm went off at the usual 22 minutes early and I am struck with a horrible stomach cramp. I feel like I'm dying of hunger, so about 3 minutes later I rush to the kitchen to eat. As I moved around the pain felt a little subdued so I opted to take 25mg ephedrine and 200mg of caffeine to try to further suppress it, while I finished getting ready. I threw in 1600mg of green tea and began to get dressed, feeling alright. I was 30 minutes early for work, but that was cool because I needed to stop to get some gas anyhow. While pumping gas the nausea struck in a big way...ugh not good. I start eating some turkey and oatmeal but it took too long to settle my stomach. What I think happened was this : Last night I was short on cochee, so I had about 4oz + 2oz strawberries, then went out and had a 4oz chicken breast (nothing else...****), then came home and had 30g of driver. The last substantial carbs that I had eaten weren't since 4:00 yesterday, so I think over the 15 hour period I slipped into ketosis, which is a serious bitch the first time (for me). So here I am after eating, spitting, and belching all the way to work, I finally suppressed my need to throw up and made it in alright. This was truly the worst part of the diet thus far.

But that's not all I have to bitch about. My calf and leg DOMS is so severe that walking has been a serious chore the last few days. I think I was able to more accurately guess the weight to use with calves because I do them with high reps, so I really felt the burn while doing these. I really have no idea how the **** I'm going to make it through today's final depletion. This has got to be one of the most insane things I've ever tried. But is it worth it? I'm sure I'll really know next Monday morning when I see if I gained back the fat. I am, however, so pleased with the results so far that I can't wait to see what the coming weeks bring.

The book states that cardio would be an excellent idea this morning, but since I'm restricted to an afternoon workout, I don't think it's going to be a good idea. Perhaps I'll give it a shot next week, but I won't be able to feel the full benefits of this today.

Last night was great. Every 2 hours it seemed I was hungry again for more carby goodness. I limited myself to around 400g then went to bed having pleasant uninterrupted dreams. I arose with the expectations to see a bloated slob in the mirror, but to my surprise...no bloat. I took my caliper ab measurement just to be sure and the first attempt was...

...

12mm! WTF OMG!?!?111?!~ TAHT IS TEH L33T!!! The second pinch yielded a slightly higher 12.5mm, but how the ****? So as I changed clothes I noticed how full and hard my muscles were and how much better I had looked than the previous day (and week). So far so ****ing good.

I think this might be the "make yourself diabetic" diet. Although I'm shocked to see how little 800g of carbs really is when comparing it to the diet of my teenage years.

A decent 7.5 hours. Went to bed at 10:30, talked with the woman for a half-hour and fell asleep. carbs = lethargy.

Ok, today I decided to try a teh galileo trick and reduce my carbs and calories. Did I succeed? Well I think I did pretty good up until I had the post workout shake. It had too many carbs in it.

I was feeling a bit sick, by the time I got home it was all I can do to not puke while I got my post workout drink ready. Then I rushed to the toilet and upchucked my water that I had been drinking during my workout.

Today's cartoon is in honor of rookie's half-assed attempt at the ultimate diet 2.0!

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Weekend Update
This weekend was heinous. I'll post some of the highlights in my Palaver later today. Here was my crappy workout from Saturday.

  ·squats
    115x5, 185x5, 235x5
  · incline dumbbell bench
    50x5
  · bench
    135x5, 185x5
  · chinups
    +25x5, +35x3
  · seated calf-raise
    100x8, 100x8
  · dips
    +0x3, +45x5, +95x3
  · db rows
    85x5:5
  · icarian curl machine
    100x8, 100x8
  · seated hamstring curl
    100x5, 100x5
  · lying calf-raise
     don't remember x10, x10

I was forced to workout up at the gym near the campgrounds and it was quite uncomfrotable. The only thing I remember well is the douche bag who worked out the entire time I was there doing nothing but variations of the bicep curl. Oh yeah, he was 5'7 210 and ripped. **** off. There was another guy doing squats with bands on the smith machine. He was big too. The flat bench was twisted so that when you got under the bar the left half was about 6" behind the bar. The weight felt heavy, which totally came as a shock. I guess when you don't bench for a few months, that's what happens. A lot of these sets were ridiculously easy, but I felt out of place and crowded, so I just floated around trying to find something that felt familiar. The only thing, surprisingly that felt great were the squats. I did 235x5, first time really squatting. My lower back is slightly sore today, but I think I'm alright (since my legs are also sore). The dips shocked me. I thought I'd most certainly have lost a ton on them, but +95x3 was fairly easy. When I came home, I looked lean and full, so I flaunted it around all of my friends who were completely shocked to see me without a shirt. They wanted to know why I wouldn't drink, then they got to see why. **** them too.

Heh, no sixer yet, but there was no real caloric restriction since last Wednesday. Perhaps in a few weeks, I'll be there, but this wednesday I'll see about taking a picture to remark the progress thus far. I am however far leaner than the beginning of last week, which is nice to say.

Not nice yet, but it's a good place to start. My legs were destroyed and it was the only leg work I've done. Leg presses don't even touch my legs in comparison. I really hope that my back holds up!

Now, let's see if you can try to forgo screwing this week up.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif mik
Thanks. I just had to try dips. Their dip station was a combo with a leg raise deal and the handles were wider than I was used to, but I was still able to squeeze out some reps. They felt far better than the chinups. I was used to going to sub failure the rest of the week, so I don't think this workout was as intense as it needed to be, but I didn't feel sick at all, which rocked.

Alright, this morning was wonderful. I didn't fall asleep until 1:00am last night and had the alarm set for 6:15. I changed it to 6:45 and took the hit of being late. I got my food prepared, took green tea, r-ala, and e/c. On the highway I eat my food and by the time I finish my turkey I get a horrible nausea. YAY! I didn't even workout yet and I'm nauseaous! I pull off the road and regurgitate the contents of my stomach onto the side of interstate 79. So, now what? I have an extra can of tuna I guess I'll eat, but this is just ****ing stupid. I'm going to openly state that green tea on an empty stomach must be the root of all evil. It seems to be what has cause a good deal of my pukiness thus far, so I'm going to eliminate it for a few days and see how I do. I weighed in this morning at 169, but I had to go to the bathroom, so I think I was likely 167-168. We'll see how depleted I am tomorrow morning after today's workout. I pinched a 12 and a 13.5 this morning, but the 13.5 pinch felt off, so I'm sure I was closer to the first. I ate fairly well over the weekend, but next weekend I think I'll be more exact in my diet. I just had too many variables from being away.

After one week of the diet, there are a few things I am going to try to tweak. First, I'm going to switch up my depletion to a split chest/back/shoulders and legs/arms. This may not be the best bet, but I'm going to give it a try. Second, I'm going to make more pasta for my refeed and rely less on lactose-free milk, since it was really hard on my stomach even though it was lactose-free. Third, I need to actually follow through with the creatine load. I totally missed out on it. Finally, I'm going to do cardio on thursday morning, so I can access what Lyle calls the "magical things" that happen when you are on low carbs for 3 days straight. Oh yeah, one more thing...not puke so ****ing much.

Initial Depletion #1.

I'm not terribly motivated to workout right now, but I know I have to. Working out the same muscles 4x a week makes me crabby.

  · cybex chest press
    80x15, x15, x15, x15, x15
  · cybex neutral row
    80x15, x15, x15, x15, x15

    30x15, 40x15, x15, x15, x15
  · cybex lat pulldown
    60x15, x15, x15, x15, x15
  · lateral raise
    10x15, x15, x15
  · weighted crunch
    55x20, x20, x20

I did the yohimburn thing today, putting it on my chest and love handles. I think it may be helping (aside from water retention), so I'm going to keep it up 4x a week.

This workout was far superior in many ways to last weeks. First, I didn't puke. Second, the workout my chest, back, and abs received was phenomenal. Lastly, I didn't puke. Aside from the GH release factors of a full body workout, this was definitely pwning. The last few sets of each exercise was very rough and the lat pulldown crushed my forearms. I'd say this was perfect.

After my workout I sauntered on into the cardio-whore mirror-laden fan-filled room of fun for some stretchy-stretcherton time. I decided to pull up the shirt and bit and bust out a front lat pose. I almost pulled a HomeYield as I saw that fabulous creature in the mirror. Fully pumped and partially dehydrated, every rib was full on blingin', BLIZZZOW the abs were kickin' outline stizzyle, and my chest and lats have never looked so thick. I wish I could snap a picture with my ****ing eyes and brain because that one would be something to show the grandkids.

My weekend of camping, by galileo

Friday night my friends call a group meeting in the common meeting area, which is 30 minutes away. My girlfriend calls me about 6:30 and tells me I have to rush up there to meet them because everyone would be meeting there at 7:00. I rush and get a shower then run out of the house to get to this important meeting. Well we were there all of five ****ing minutes and the only question was whether we were leaving that night or the following morning. I was ultra-pissed, but whatever. The decision was made to leave early the next morning so that we could have a head-start on the day and really get a lot of things done. I set the alarm for 4:45, so we can get to town by 6:00. The alarm went off, I didn't hear it, but my girlfriend did. She came in and woke me up about 5:20 and it felt like I was dropped kicked in the head by God. I guess I was in a pretty deep sleep because I couldn't think or focus for 15 minutes. So, we get there at 6:00 and of course no one is there yet. After a while, they slowly filter in and we get on the road. We pull into a gas station to prepare for the 3 hours drive and the mood of the day becomes set by the torrential rainfall. We all had the hopes that it would be done or out of the area we were heading to by the time we arrived, so we carried on through the pour down. **** rain.

On the ride up the conversation was lively, full of talks of how wonderful this place will be and how much fun we're going to have. One of my friends camped there when he was 12 and he remembered having lots of fun on an obstacle course with rope climbs and all kinds of different challenges. We were going to have a ton of great adventures by and on the lake, in the woods, and in our cabin! SWEET! Well at least it sounded good. **** inaccurate memories.

We arrive and the rain begins to let up slightly. The cabins are built like duplexes, side by side, with a screen enclosed porch in the back. They are small and crappy, but not much was expected for $44/night. We begin to unpack and we hear pounding on the wall of the cabin. I thought that we either had super thin walls or the neighbors were extremely loud. We get most of the stuff unloaded and decided to take a break and sit on the back deck for a bit. We move chairs around so there are enough to seat the six of us and we hear some chair being slammed around in what I consider to be a mocking fashion on the porch next to us. We begin our basic idle conversation about what we want to do and some bitch screams, "SHUT UP!" from next door. So, I screamed "**** YOU!" A clever retort that left her stunned for only a brief moment. She then replied with, "You are the ****ing noisiest people ever, assholes." I replied with, "I didn't know we rented a library, bitch!" At that point they started talking amongst each other in whispers. I decided that it would be best to see if we could get switched, because I couldn't go next door and **** up some girls. We went and told the desk what had happened and they let us move to another cabin farther down the way. Wonderful, we pack and get ready to leave and I noticed my keys are gone. After 30 minutes of searching around the ****ing ****-hole of a cabin I finally found them and we were on our way. New cabin, no neighbors. Excellent. **** bitches.

After fully unpacking, the other two guys decide it would be a most brilliant time (10:30am) to take a few shots of Bacardi 151. That didn't take long. They were pretty hammered and I was pretty tired, so we didn't see eye to eye on the next events of the day. We all finally got our **** together and went to the little convenience center in the entrance of the compound. There was a gym, tanning salon, and convenience store. I scoped out the gym, which looked sufficient, then we headed to the convenience store where the guys made it quite apparent to everyone who was on looking that they were smashed. The rain continued to fall and we headed back to the cabin to take a brief nap until things cleared up. While we were asleep the guys decided it would be a good time to drive to town to get some beer. They left and didn't return for 3 hours. When they came back their girlfriends were extremely pissed off and asked where they had been. They went site-seeing! Oh ouch...the girls didn't like that. Then they got to yell back and forth about how we were sleeping so they went and had fun, while the girls screamed that they didn't wake them up to go and they wanted to ****ing see the horses. **** horses.

Alright, we're all awake so it's time to find the obstacle course. We drive out to the rec area and there it is in all it's majesty...alright not really. It was a dinky piece of **** toddler course that made me feel like a goddamned giant. But everyone had to try it out. There was a rope climb (8ft tall), a chinup-challenge (hmm, wonder who won that?), and some other stupid things. I was less than amused, especially since I wanted to workout shortly after. When that was completed we headed to the game room, which included Tekken 1, some cop game, and a half-size pool table. I played pool and won, yay. As we went out to the parking lot we noticed the truck that was parked next to us in the first cabin we stayed in drove by at about 5mph with a guy staring us down the entire time. I had just about had it with this trip and I started after the truck. My girlfriend stopped me and begged me not to cause any trouble, so for her sake I did. How ****ing assholic are people though, really? We moved cabins just to avoid further problems and the dude is going to come scope us out to see if he is brave enough to say something. I bet he went back to the cabin and told his girlfriends that he put us in our place and that we cowered in fear of his l337ness or something. **** people.

Now, we headed back to the cabin. I grabbed my drink and went to the gym and the rest of the crew told me they were going to play flip cup and just hang out until I returned so I could play a game with them (drinking Gatorade, instead of beer). I worked out and picked them up some **** from the store, then headed back. I come home to find everyone half-drunk and pissed off. Turns out they played the games without me because they were bored and now since it was almost 5:00 and they started drinking at 10:30 people were burned out. **** me.

Well, I convince them to play another game so we sit down and begin. One of the girls (who has borderline personality disorder) tells her boyfriend to take the soda can out of his shoe because it was going to "condensate" and ruin them. He tells her it is warm and it won't, so she starts going into one of her silent tantrums. That carried on for about 15 minutes and then turned into an hour long scream-fest on the porch. She flips out, he is calm (used to this behavior) and does the all too common "i hate you, i wanna leave" deal. She comes in and runs out the front door to her car. He comes inside and starts taking bets on how long before she loves him to death again. We tell him the same thing as usual, we feel bad for him, why does he put up with it, yadda yadda. He goes to the car to mend things and a few minutes later, we head to Wal*Mart. Yay! As we leave we pass her car and see them kissing. Literally no more than 5 minutes had passed since the situation and already she's switched gears. I have no idea how he deals with it. **** psychopaths.

We get to Wal*Mart and purchase the game Cranium, then head back home. When we return, everything seems to be in good spirits, so we play. We are laughing a lot and my girl and I comment on how we were the only ones not to bicker all weekend. (The other couple had a few minor spats over various things such as snuff and masturbation). I had to do some charading and the phrase was "Saved by the Bell." So I slid into home (the couch), then gave the "safe" sign, followed by ringing my imaginary bell. Well, I found out after the game concluded that someone left a full pepsi can at home plate, which spilled all over our blankets and one of the pillows. Well, that ended our pristine weekend. She bitched at me for a good half-hour about it. I told her I was sick of her bitching, she came back with that she wasn't bitching, so I said, "The shut your goddamned mouth!" I think she realized how stupid she was being because she tried to play the sorry game and I just accepted and went to bed, still pissed off. **** crabbiness.

I woke up in the middle of the night to piss to hear the throes of passion coming from the bed in the corner. Just what I wanted to hear. Then, in the morning when I woke up, the other couple was going at it. What the ****? It was one room you ****ing assholes! Have some goddamned respect for other people and don't ****ing have intercourse when you are a mere 2ft away from your friends! Has no one any ****ing couth? I didn't sleep well, I woke up with a stiff neck, and now I get to hear someone's balls slapping off someone else's ass. ****ING ****.

We gather our **** and head to Perkins for a wonderful breakfast. Our waitress was a straight off the boat Chinese woman who had minimal engrish comprehension. Here is a sample dialogue from my order.

Me : I'd like a low-fat blueberry monster muffin, please.
Her: Muffin?
Me : Yes, blueberry monster muffin.
Her: Muffin?
Me : Yes, like on the menu, the low-fat blueberry muffin.
Her: brooberry?
Me : Muffin.

You can fill in the rest of the breakfast based on the previous events. I'm sure you'll come close enough. **** petty arguments.

So, I drank about 10 cups of coffee to stabilize and we headed home. The ride was long and painful and the sunshine mocked us the whole way home. I was never so happy to be back to my apartment in my entire life. That is the last time I go camping with my friends. **** this weekend. The end.

ps: This is the short version of the story. Believe it or not.
pps: I didn't grammar or spell check this, so forgive me if anything sounds odd. I'm too tired. **** you.

Sorry to hear about your weekend. I've had some camping trips similiar, where my buddies are drinking at 11 am and I want to take things a bit slower and not be a dumbass. Inevitably they are trashed by 3 or 4 pm and just pissing me off and being annoying. I've learned I can't go on trips with that group of friends anymore, because they are still in the mindset of extreme drunkeness = fun, whereas I like to have fun both sober and drunk.

My friends are definitely in the drunk = fun category. My girlfriend told me the other night that she doesn't like drinking at all and that she's tired of doing it to have a good time. That was ****ing awesome, because the less she drinks the less I'll drink and I would be severely pleased to just drink 2-3x a year at this point. It's too much of a confliction with my goals.

I think that no matter how many bad experiences one has on vacation, you are still left with a longing for escapism and the quickest way to do so is to leave where you are. The quote of the weekend from my friends was, "At least we aren't in <insert town name>." Personally, I would've rather been home.

Humor at another's expense is always better! I don't mind making others feel better by relaying my horrid experiences. Glad someone missed me!
