Last night I took an ab measurement just to see how I was doing. I was down a bit, so I made sure to check again this morning. Same pinch, 11.5mm, so it's official. I'm as lean now as I was at 154lbs, which was a full year ago. But I am way bigger this year than last. I should honestly be even bigger, but I was still figuring out the subtleties of my body's reactions to diet. Here is a quote from back then...

I actually buy 9.8% as a valid number. I pinched as much fat as possible in the latter measurements, in the former I pinched the general region. I'm not even sure what's right but I do know I've made progress so I don't give two ***** what my number is, I only care that I look lean. Today I actually looked lean. I was very happy when I looked in the mirror.

I should do a chest and thigh pinch tomorrow morning just to see if there is much of a difference. Anyhow, as usual, still pleased with the consistent progression.

I got a tiny bit nauseaous once I started the curl/extension/calf-raise supersets. But, the hardest part was walking out of the gym. My arms swelled up intensely after the first sets and the leg work felt impossible this week. Today's workout was a little more difficult, but I'm hanging in there. No puke!

That's cute that you're using all of those cybex machines. Do you have to make sure you get on them before the cheerleading squad comes in and before the tae-bo class get's out to make sure there is not a long line at them?

Not quite the same, but you certain parts resemble it. The lactic acid meltdown is attempting to achieve lactic acid building then flushing (which is directly related to the release of growth hormone). The article tries to show that cardio is detrimental due to the effects it has on various aspects of one's body. I don't buy into the anti-cardio camp because it has its place, but the premise seems solid. It's like most interval training, except instead of doing something to tax your CV system (HIIT) you use weight training to achieve the same effect. This diet is more about depleting glycogen through long and intense workouts with miniscule weights, then while your body is depleted and hungry for glycogen, you overcompensate before it knows what hit it. You end up keeping the fat loss and resetting your system so it is ready to lose again. With proper tweaking I imagine this could also be one hell of a bulking diet. If you cut your carbs to next to nothing on the depletion days, but ate around maintenance calories in fat and protein, then carbed up huge, then ate a little over maintenance with moderate carbs on days 6/7, you could probably put on some decent muscle. I'm going to take a few weeks off and up my calories to maintenance after I've done this for 6 weeks, then perhaps I'll give that a shot.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif mik
Yes. Yes I am. You don't get to the top by giving handouts though...muahahaha!

Thanks, man. I hope that after this cut is over, I'll look as lean as Will or some of the other bastards with superior leanness. As I've said, my abs lean out quick, the rest is what takes its time.

Bulking is slightly touched upon in the book, but I'm sure you could infer a method just based on the information provided. You could tweak it for minimal fat loss or maximal muscle gain based on your low-carb carb caloric levels and weekend maintenance levels. I think it could be quite successful.

Too...much...coffee...bad...

Well, this morning I opted to do the typical ab pinch and a start with my hand fully open and pinch as much as I could ab pinch to see the highest I could possibly be. The usual end was 10.5mm, the upper end was 14mm. I'll take it. I took some pictures, but the photographic differences are marginal at this level. In person the difference is much greater. The side shot where I pinch, shows a somewhat significant change, but it also shows that I have a few weeks to go. My chest pinch is down 1mm to 5.5 and thigh is down a few to 14.5mm. My legs hold a ton of fat, but according to an article I read yesterday, men lean from the inside out, so I guess that'll come next. All in all, the 3-site measurement puts me between 8.5 and 9.6%, so I'd say I'm slightly above 10% at the moment. If I my body doesn't start fighting back, 4 more weeks to go.

One more thing I've noticed from the pictures is that I'm more depleted this week than last, which is likely a bonus. This diet is really keeping me motivated due to the short cycles within the week. The only things I despise are the depletion workouts.

Yohimburn on all the stubborn parts. I have thiomucase to remove the water added by the yohimburn and I'll likely put some on before bed tonight and perhaps tomorrow to see if there is a difference. My chest still retains water, even with the major fat loss I've seen in the area recently. Further proof that God hates me.

As I was walking and walking and walking and not going anywhere, I had a little time to read and watch the events in the tiny, tiny gym. I noticed the one guy who I consider to be built way better than me struggle doing dips at bodyweight, eventhough I'd say he isn't much heavier than me. That bothers me because I feel I should be more aesthetic for the weight I lift. As I was fixing my hair before leaving, the guy came in and did a strange thing. He stopped at his locker, did 10 pushups as fast as he could, then dropped his shorts, all viewable by the mirror I was standing in. Luckily, he was facing away...

Due to the lack of calories and carbs, I'm feeling abnormally apathetic and unaccomplished today. I know it's just my brain playing games, but it makes it difficult to put much effort into things. I'm also quite pissy.

I opted to get up extra early and get ready at work after some cardio. I was shocked at the raised energy levels that I had so early in the morning. Now, however, I do not feel like working out this afternoon whatsoever. But I will!

Woke up without bloat, so that's a good thing. I pinched another 10mm this morning on the abs, so the week was a success so far. I'm going to be as careful as I was last week and just totally wreck-shop this weekend on my power workout.

Refeeding is great, but it's really hard not to overdo it, even when you shoot for 800g of carbs. At 9:30 now I had already earten the first 3 meals and I really really want to start eating more. By 2:00 I didn't feel like eating anything else...ever.

It was approxiamately -459.67°F outside this morning (-273.15°C for you Canadian ****s). It took me 20 minutes of driving before all of the frost was off of my windows, at which point I was entering the town I work in. I guess it's time to start setting the clock back 10 minutes so I can defrost and scrape again.

The Vagina Card

As lunch approached I got a hankering for some subway, so I got in my car and made the half-mile trek to the plaza through lunch-hour traffic. On the way I began thinking about how I wanted to palaver on the "vagina card," but wasn't sure what context I'd like to present it in. I entered subway only to be confronted with a long line full of collegiate douche-sacks. The girl directly in front of me was talking on her cell phone, making plans for this evening. She was covered in makeup and fake tanner and had an obnoxious mien about her that made me bitterly recall my days in highschool. Little did I know, that this girl would be the key to today's palaver. The stage is set.

ACTION!

Sammich Artist: <stares at girl, ready to take her order>
Cardholder: (into cell phone) No, you decide! No, you! Ok, the guy is ready to take my order so I'll call you later. (whispering)i love you. <hangs up>
Sammich Artist: What'll it be today, ma'am?

CUT!

Her expression at that moment was what I'd consider typical of anyone who was inconsiderate enough to not figure out what the **** she wanted before she got on the ****ing cell phone, staring half-dazed at the menu. It a split-moment, I saw this change from innocent ignorance to pure treachery. Oh no...she wouldn't. She couldn't?

ACTION!

Cardholder: (turns to the heinously fat kid standing in line next to her) Are you buying?
Fat Kid: Uh, ok. I...uh, guess.

CUT!

My friends, you have just witnessed the vagina card in action. Still confused?

The vagina card is issued to all attractive females at birth. Even though it holds no sexual meaning with [most] fathers, they are immediately affected by the V.C. and cater to their daughters every whim. As they go through elementary school, the boys take notice and may give the cardholders their dessert or even worse, they may succumb to playing with dolls just to be near them! As the girls mature the cash value of the V.C. increases substantially. In their teenage years cardholders may find that men of equivalent or greater age may pick them up in a car and take them to a dinner and a movie, paying for it entirely. When they hit their early twenties the benefits increase to allow them to drink for free at almost any bar and acquire jewelry and other presents, just "for being themselves." Once a woman hits full maturity the V.C. can force a man to do things he'd normally never do such as getting married, having babies, or worse yet taking care of the babies, while his wife goes out with a group of non-cardholding women to talk about how much they hate men! This is the prime example of one phenomenon that must be noted. Cardholders always hang out with non-cardholders. Never will you see a group of cardholders together without a majority of non-cardholders in the area. Studies show that the V.C.'s value increases exponentially if they are in the present of non-cardholding women; therefore it is of the utmost benefit that cardholders never roam with only their kind.

There is nothing men can do to counteract the evils of the vagina card, so I can only caution them to take heed in all applicable situations. And women, please use your card responsibly. There are a lot of broken-hearted heinously fat guys out there who only want to be loved. Introduce them to one of your non-cardholding friends. It's the only humane thing to do.

The End.

Thanks. I probably couldn't have done more. I am not comfortable with my form yet and I think next week I'll do a few sets at a lower weight to try to get that worked out. The belt is helping a tremendous amount though. It allows me to feel my lower back throughout the motion. I gotta just make sure not to stand completely vertical at any point on the motion, to prevent direct spinal pressure.

So begins another week of insanity, but I am prepared.

I forgot to weigh myself this morning before I put on clothing, but with dress pants and shirt, I weighed 172. Same as last Monday. My ab pinch was the same as last week, so I didn't do any damage this weekend. I was slightly concerned because I was ultra bloated on Saturday and I looked like ****. This morning I looked alright again, so I guess it was still successful. My chest fat is bothering me more and more now that I get leaner. I retain most of my water there and upon feeling the fat in the region it is uneven. I loathe the thought of having to get expensive surgery done to correct this, but it has again become an option.

I watched School of Rock this weekend and it owned. I am a huge Jack Black fan, so almost anything he does I really enjoy. Except the SNL this weekend...which sucked. Anyhow, the movie was far better than I had thought, so I'd suggest going to see it if you have not already.

Initial Depletion Numero Uno.

Yesterday I was dreading working out today, but today I'm looking forward to it.

  ˇ cybex chest press
    80x15, x15, x15, x15, x15
  ˇ cybex neutral row
    80x15, x15, x15, x15, x15
  ˇ standing cable flye
    40x15, x15, x15, x15, x15
  ˇ cybex lat pulldown
    [+5] 65x15, x15, x15, x15, x15
  ˇ lateral raise
    10x15, x15, x15
  ˇ weighted crunch
    [-5] 50x20, x20, x20

The last set of each the chest press and the neutral row were quite painful. Then came the flyes. Painful pump = yes. The latdown literally made my forearms feel like they were being melted from the inside out. Then, as if God came down and blessed me in the middle of my workout, the final sets of flyes and pulldowns felt like nothing at all. I didn't know what to think, but I'll take it. The pain was intense on every other set. I didn't feel like ****ing around with the magnet weights because some other chick was using them for her kickbacks, so I just used the heaviest dumbbell there for my crunches.

In the end I was pumped insanely. I enjoyed that much, eventhough I know it's all smoke and mirrors. My fatty areas were bloated this afternoon after only eating 2oz of oatmeal, total. Sometimes I think I understand, then I realize I don't.

I didn't look much different when I woke up this morning, aside from my legs. I noticed my torso was holding some water and the ab pinch hadn't moved. I tested the other sites and noticed that the legs had lost a few mm since last week, so obviously I wasn't imagining things in the mirror. In attempt to thwart the bloat, I've increased my water consumption, which has waned this week due to the death of my poor water bottle. May it rest in peace. Anyhow, it really seems to have helped. I've recruited the help of two 10oz plastic cups to take over the job until I can get a new water bottle, hopefully without paying for a warm bottle of spring water.

I am in severe need of a tan.

I ordered some more supplies today! Some r-ala, ephedrine hcl, yohimbine hcl, skulpt, and a bottle of IN-RAGE. I'm hoping the skuplt works well, above anything. The IN-RAGE comes highly regarded and from what I've read yohimbine is good for people with my type of fat storage.

Wow. That's all I can say. My legs were wabbling and they were so full of blood that walking wasn't easy. They feel extremely "warm" right now. My arms were a bit spent from yesterday and I used a V bar instead of the straight bar, so I lowered the tricep pushdown weight to 90. The rest was alright. I am looking forward to napping this evening.

I've not had a ton to do for the last few weeks but today, as I knew was inevitable, I've had 2 major test plans, 2 development projects, and documentation placed on my desk. This doesn't leave much room for self-reflection or general contemplation.

Perhaps I'll post a cartoon later when I am relaxed this evening.

I was a little disturbed yesterday by my bloated morning appearance, but through the wonders of water I've prevailed. This morning my ab pinch was 8.5 and 12 (normal and as much as possible). Both are down 2mm from last week. Honestly though, I don't look any leaner. I think it'll just take a few more weeks before the changes really show. When you get to this point, it takes a little more to notice a difference.

I think I'm going tanning this evening. I'm going to call and schedule an appointment this morning so I don't back out. Then, I'll take some pictures in a flattering light and say I made a huge change. But really, I'm looking forward to the before/after shots. I've done some preliminary ones and the change over a few weeks is fairly dramatic.

I thought I was forgetting something when I left the house. After half of my trip to work was completed, I realize it was my bottle of vitamins. Looks like I'll be cramming those in this evening.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen Sytenhance (http://www.1fast400.com/?products_id=786)? It's a topical 1-test/4-ad stack that is purported to be localized. So, if you rub it on your bicep, it grows. Calves? They grow. Penis? You sick ****! I've looked around, reading some feedback and people seem to have quite the positive effects. Before slapping down $50 for 15 days of insane localized growth (*cough*) I'm going to have to look into it a bit more. I must say that it is quite tempting, especially considering my complete and utter lack of symmetry. My quads are ginormous and taper into 14.5" calves. It looks like someone replaced my legs with funnels. My pecs are like pancakes smothered in lard, my delts destroy any and all chance of a nice looking bicep, and my ass is extremely sexy. Alright, the last one was gratuitous, but **** you it's my journal.

I'm beginning to notice that Thursday mornings bring some depression. I can safely assume it's from the low calories combined with seeing depleted muscles, but even knowing its origin, it still gets to me. What seems to be the mantra of the day? "How can I work so hard and still look like ****?" Reading the new Men's Fitness while doing cardio doesn't help either. Every single ****ing guy in that magazine has 8% bodyfat and above average musculature. Then I pick up my shirt and see seven months of cutting with lackluster results. The fact that my "progress" from May to August were more like steps backwards than forwards definitely plays into this feeling as well.

Yesterday I weighed in at 170lbs. That's 1lb heavier than when I started 3 weeks ago. My ab pinch is lower, by 5-6mm, but somehow my body (even after depletion) is holding onto weight. Some people think this is good, but to me it's worrysome.

I'm going to run this cut for the full 8 weeks, assuming progress doesn't halt. That would allow my bulk to start on november 17th and run through until christmas. If progress halts before then I will up my calories sooner and for a shorter period.

Today marks 4 years and 10 months for my girlfriend and I. We are going to celebrate by watching TV and eating pasta. Alright, not really celebrating. I think I'm more in love with her now than I've ever been, yet I still feel slightly vulnerable. Gotta love that.

There's a diabetic guy at work who always asks what I'm doing with my weight training. Today I told him it was a carb up day. I also informed him that he could commit suicide with my post-workout shake. He respectfully declined.

    200x6, 210x6
  ˇ lateral raise
    25x6, 20x6

More yohimburn because I felt like it.

Alright I started off by learning that the leg press was adjustable. I thought it was, but I couldn't find the cybex-style pull-rod to adjust it, so I thought perhaps it didn't have one. So, now I found I can do leg presses with a much deeper range of motion and they don't hurt my back if I put the back down farther. ****ing ****. I tested the waters a bit with 4pps, then upped it to "every plate on the leg press" cause I don't feel like dragging more over. That was fun and slightly challenging. Alright, I did curls/extensions, no problems. Then I switched to flyes/lat pulldowns, where I upped the weight a lot from last week (and from when I was doing 5x5). Nice. Next, row/press. Not as strong after all the flyes, but still decent. I took a few extra reps on the chest press to really kill it, then I upped my row weight so it would be more of a challenge. Onto arms! No fatigue, no nausea. Weird. I do rope pushdowns, no biggie. Move to cable curls and OUCH. My forearms are KILLING me. All this lat pulling down **** has really done a number on my forearms. Their recovery is obviously slowed, but ****...so I pick up some db's and do some hammer curls. Lateral raises were a little rough, but not a problem. Calf-raises rocked. I took Majt's advice and did them very slow with no bounce and heavy weight. It worked.

As a note, the poundages on these machines are totally ****ed. When I go to move the bar to the start position on the lat pulldowns with 120lbs, I have to bear down and become dead weight in order for it to budge. 120 < 170. **** you cybex.

Bottom Line: No nausea, minimal fatigue, excellent poundages.
Thanks to Zac for telling me to use a lower rep range!

Like every night, tuesday I come home from work and pull up to my mailbox and spend the typical 1 minute fidgeting with the key to get it in the hole accompanied by calling the mailbox's mother a ****ing whore. This time it was extremely difficult to pull out, so I wiggled it until it finally came free. I didn't even have any ****ing mail. So, last night I come home and prepare for the ritual and as I pull my key out of my pocket to shove it in the hole, I notice that half of my key is M.I.A. Apparently the other half opted to stay in the comfort of the keyhole's crevice while the rest of it was content to stay with its friend, my car key. Great. No mail for me.

Slightly pissed but mainly exhausted I head up to my second floor apartment with hopes of taking a nap on the couch. I open the door and immediately become overwhelmed by a brood of these ****ing brown ladybug bastages. There could easily be 200 if not more of them, crawling all over the cathedral (read: ****ing high) ceiling. My girlfriend was standing in the living room (in plain sight) painting. I was like, "HOLY ****! Where did all these ****ing bugs come from?" She was like, "What bu...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" I through down my gym and lunch bags and examined the rest of the apartment to make sure that they weren't in any other rooms. Luckily, they had found my kitchen and living room (the two with high ceilings) as the most comfortable and held their droves to these areas. I made a comment to the tune of, "How the **** didn't you notice six-thousand four-hundred and seventy-two ****ing bugs holding a lodge meeting in our goddamned apartment?" She replied that she was too busy painting and didn't pay any attention. So, I got on the internet to find a means of seeking and destroying. I found absolutely nothing of value, so I resorted to my primative instincts and went to the kitched and berated them. Well that didn't work, so I grabbed the upright vaccuum with ever-so-handy hose attachments and started vaccuuming up the mother****ers. An hour later, I had sucked up all of the visible ones and exhausted my creativity for ridiculous things to call them as I tractored the ****ers into a cyclone of death.

Perhaps it's karma or perhaps I'm just jaded, but today I feel like ass. Thanks a lot, landlords.

I've created a depiction of this entitied, "What's next?" Enjoy.

Well, today on my power workout my strength was nil. My wrist hurts, my forearms hurt, my knees hurt, and my back hurts. Not like "aww I'm such a pussy" pain, but more like "I should take a break because if I'm gonna bulk any time soon, it's going to require me to not be in constant pain."

So, there it is. I'm going to take a week off from the diet. Going to train a normal split, very very light weights. When I say very very, I mean very very very. Lighter than my depletion workouts. Just keep blood flow alright and prevent muscle loss. The power workout today totally showed how suck-ass I feel. I couldn't even put up my warmup weight that easily.

Anyhow, I was pretty embarrassed by this first picture, but it appears as though I fixed it in the time I've spent on UD2. I was still depleted in he second picture, so I look smaller than I really do, but whatever.

Weight before: 169
Bodyfat by Caliper 12%, actual probably ~16%.
Weight after: 169
Bodyfat by caliper 8.5%, actual probably ~12%

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bnaLyle2.jpg

Note: I have odd fat placement, love handles and chest, primarily. My legs didn't budge much and only a lil came off the arms. I am plauged with feminine fat storage, which makes me appear way way fat.

I don't whine, it's just my typical self-deprecation. I know I've made huge strides, but without the drive to be better, there is no motivation. Looking at the pictures, I'm impressed with the changes made in such a short time. But the credit must go to Lyle, for making an extremely effective diet. Today I woke up and looked very lean. I was pleased with what I saw in the mirror. I did the big ab pinch and came out with a 10.5, which is great. I hope to not put any back on this week, so I'm going to stay strict with my diet. I've gotten my girlfriend accustomed to not eating fast food every evening, so I think that it'll be much simpler.

I'm writing up a UD2.0 synopsis, so stay tuned for that.

Slightly less than maintenance. I can only assume my maintenance is 2500 at this point though, since I haven't maintained in a while. The split is isocaloric (32f/34c/34p), in case you're bad at math.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif My Ultimate Diet 2.0 Thoughts and Experiences
I've decided to do a little synopsis of UD2.0, allowing others to learn from my mistakes and for me to analyze how I could better perform this diet the next time around.

Overall The best cut I've ever been on. I've tried various methods and by far this provided the fastest results with the least muscle sacrifice. I would never hesitate to cut using UD2. The true test will be how well I do once I get into the "ripped" zone, where I am below my comfort zone. But, it seems that getting to my comfort zone was pretty painless.

Major Mistakes
ˇ Selecting exercises that I had not done for a long time. This caused unnecessary soreness.
ˇ Using liquid meals pre-workout. This caused unnecessary nausea.
ˇ Selecting exercises that put strain on my knees. Couple that with insane cardio and you end up with a sack o' regret.
ˇ Underdoing my refeeds. I did far better when I overdid them. Through experimentation I'll find a nice happy medium, but underdoing them caused me much more aggrevation.

Monday
Diet: The diet today is fairly simple. Uness you have been used to eating a lot of calories, the ephedrine and caffeine should be more than enough to keep the hunger blunted. The evenings weren't too bad and usually keeping full of liquids staved off the hunger suitably.
Workout: The workout I selected for this day, chest/back/abs, felt good and caused no nausea. During the first week I made a few simple mistakes, which were corrected by the second week. First, don't pick too heavy of a weight. You'll become too fatigued too quickly and you'll end up lowering it anyway. Second, don't take supplements that may aggrevate your stomach before the workout. Third, the full body option was quite difficult, but I think it would be worthwhile if you could achieve it without discomfort. I may try the full body option again the next time around. Some people do get nauseaous their first time, even without these factors.
State: Energy was normal on this day and so was well-being. The latter weeks of the diet I was excited for Monday just to get back to some fat-loss.
Fat Loss: I typically noticed difference in the abdominal caliper measurements from morning to evening on this day. Some of it is due to the water loss and depletion, but some of it was noticeably fat loss. No noticable changes on parts of the body.

Tuesday
Diet: Tuesday gets a little tougher, but not much. Expect the same as Monday.
Workout: The depletion workout can cause some nausea (arms/legs/shoulders), but once you're used to it, I think it becomes negligible. Same rules as Monday applied.
State: This evening usually brought a little more aggrevating hunger, but eating some lettuce with a half-serving of ranch dressing seemed to really do the trick. Factoring in a homemade chicken salad might be a good idea for an evening meal, as long as you can handle using minimal dressing.
Fat Loss: I noticed, typically, a 0.5mm difference on Tuesday evening. Again, no noticeable changes elsewhere.

Wednesday
Diet: Wednesday sucks. Hunger during the day was blunted by the stimulants, but post-cardio I got extremely hungry until my next meal.
Workout: To get the maximal effects I did a mid-day cardio session with legs that were still sore from the previous day's marathon of leg motions. Again, no fun.
State: I was generally tired, apathetic, and fuzzy.
Fat Loss: Fat loss was really kicking on the trouble spots on this day. Love-handles and chest fat reduced. Typically a tiny bit more on the abs.

Thursday
Diet: So close, yet so far. Thursday mornings I typically woke up with severe hunger. One of the days I woke up an hour before my alarm and I couldn't fall back asleep because I was so hungry. For the evening carb-up I found pasta with grilled chicken and fat-free mozarella to be a great meal. For dessert I had a small amount of frozen yogurt and a bagel with fat-free cream cheese.
Workout: The last few weeks I went into work very early and did cardio. I really really really think this made a big difference. I noticed severe changes in my love handles from wednesday to friday when doing this. Using a topical yohimbine product also helped. The fat came off my chest a bit the last week I did this. This workout day was extremely difficult the first few weeks, but the last week when I lowered my reps to the 6-10 range, it became the easiest day. My strength was apparently down on this day due to being depleted, but with the low reps I still felt strong. A mistake that I made was to take in pre-workout carbs in liquid form. You are supposed to get 30g sugar (a little fructose) and 15g whey, so the first week I put some sucrose/dextrose and whey in a shaker and drank it down. Bad idea. The liquids in the stomach caused me to be extra nauseaous for the workout. I switched to using a protein bar and some spree, which was a fat better combo. Thursday evening is fun, but be prepared to want to go to bed early. I had to workout in the late afternoon, so I got a few carb-up meals in before bed, which put me in an extremely torpid state.
State: Anxious and still fuzzy. After the carb up, lethargic! I looked into the mirror and wanted to puke. Stringy, small, and unhappy.
Fat Loss: Still losing fat throughout the day and it is noticable by Friday. The morning cardio was a good idea.

Friday
Diet: Boy, this day sounds like fun! Well it is, but not as much as you'd think. It starts out fun, but the ups and downs make it next to impossible to do anything. Though, I must say my most successful one was the second week in which I ate a ton. My workout was beautiful and after some water intake I found the bloat to go away leaving no fat gain. The formula for success shall be plenty of carbs + timed meals. If I just eat whenever, I find myself eating way too much at one time, then eating way too little later on. Never feel guilty about the volume of food eaten on this day as it is essential to preserving muscle and providing a successful power workout. I think that some sucrose doesn't hurt. The best refeed I had included bagels, a little cereal, some pasta, and fat-free twinkies. Probably too much sucrose, but I think a few fat-free twinkies (half a box, not a whole box, heh) are a decent addition. Just stay away from sodas and other sugary drinks.
Workout: Nothing! Enjoy it.
State: Lethargic then manic. Lovely.
Fat Loss: None.

Saturday
Diet: I was very lax on my diet on the weekends, but since I get up fairly late, the cals were kept to a minimum. My single goal was low low fat.
Workout: The power workout! This one was hit and miss for me. It all depends on how well friday went and how much sleep I got. Too much sleep was detrimental as well.
State: Normal and looking full! Post workout on Saturday made me feel great. Muscles were pumped and I looked excellent. This is probably the best day of the cut.
Fat Loss: Nothing noticeable, but perhaps some because I ate less than maintenance for the most part.

Sunday
Diet: Same as Saturday, sans the workout shake. Nothing special, just preparing for Monday.
Workout: Off. I opted not to do cardio on Sunday evening because my legs just couldn't take much more.
State: Normal.
Fat Loss: Same as saturday.

Awesome synopsis! I can definitely relate to most of that from what I was doing going through my cutting diet. Those refeeds do leave some weird feelings and I got quite tired during them.

Has there been any thought to switching the monday and tuesday workouts or are legs on tuesday to ensure maximal depletion? Just might be easier to do cardio on Wednesday if DOM's were lessened.

I went tanning again last night and the woman forgot how long to leave me in the booth. She was on the phone, so I couldn't interrupt her and she seemed confident when she sent me back, but I ended up getting 15 minutes instead of the 10 I needed. I'm a lil red today, but not as bad as I had thought. I looked excellent with the mild tan this morning, which really excites me. It's been a while since I've been tan. Ab pinch is in tact. Keeping steady with my diet.

Well consider this, Will.

1lb of fat is 3500 kcal.

I lost 2lbs a week, so that's a 7000 kcal deficit.

3.5 days at 1200 kcal below maintenance = 4200 kcal under
.5 day at 600kcal above = 3600 kcal under
1 day at 5000 kcal is ~2600 over = 1000 kcal under
2 days at ~200 kcal under = 1600 kcal deficit for the week.

So, I'd say calories in vs calories out isn't always accurate.

Anyhow, good idea. Perhaps I'll put together something.

Because the side where the butter is has more weight. Kind of like dropping a half empty gallon of milk. It will always land on the half that contains the milk. Explanation: gravity.

Where's my pulitzer?

I personally think it's because pet hair and butter are opposites and we all know that opposites attract thus the sheer magnetic forces of the universe attract all stray and nasty floor matter to the freshly buttered side of the toast. *ahem* Yeah right it's simply murphy's law :D

I actually saw them test it on one of those early morning kid's tv show or something. If the buttered toast is butte side down on the cabinet and it falls off then it will land buttered side up. It roatates just enough during the fall to fall on the the opposite side of which ever one it was when it left the counter top. Almost as simple as the net calories per week. :p

But who butters their toast then puts in on the counter butter side down? and what the hell are you doing watching kid's shows?

3.5 days at 1200 kcal below maintenance = 4200 kcal under
.5 day at 600kcal above = 3600 kcal under
1 day at 5000 kcal is ~2600 over = 1000 kcal under
2 days at ~200 kcal under = 1600 kcal deficit for the week.

So, I'd say calories in vs calories out isn't always accurate.

Anyhow, good idea. Perhaps I'll put together something.

Is it possible your maintanence is higher than what you are thinking?

Not a chance. In fact, I wouldn't doubt that my maintenance calories are lower then my estimate. I'm definitely on lower-middle of the metabolism scale.

It's very easy to see how it works. You're extremely hypocaloric for 3.5 days. During these days you deplete glycogen. Couple that with lowered carbs and you get ketosis or close to it, but the desired effect is that your FFA's increase and your body uses them for fuel. Now, your body is searching for glycogen, so you give it to it, in excess. You can't turn the switch off from storing "all" glucose as glycogen quick enough, so you can eat 5000+ calories and your body will keep storing, beyond the standard comfort level. The end result is anabolism and no fat gain. The few days following you are still in an anabolic state. After a few days around maitenance, you go back to low calories. Any muscle lost seems to be regained and you retain your fat-loss from the huge deficit the first few days. Magic? Hardly. But it works.

The last few mornings I've been fairly impressed with my leanness. I am excited to get back on the diet and lose more fat. But, I'm not excited about how well I'm recovering. My wrist started hurting again last night and my knees still ache. I've upped the dosing on the glucosamine/msm but it's not doing much yet. I may do a psuedo refeed on saturday night where I cut out all the fat and up my carbs a bit (shooting for 3000kcal), just to make sure my levels are optimal for Monday. I may do a light full body workout on Saturday too, to get the full benefit of the refeed.

I need an mp3 player, but I don't want to pay a ton for it. Since i use it to workout, it'll probably break before too long, so I don't wanna pay $200+ for it. I keep bitching about needing one but since I got $0.00 in donations the last time I started my mp3 player fund, then I guess i'll keep bitching more until I feel like saving up for it.

My older brother and wife came home from Florida and brought home their grandson along for the ride. His mother isn't around much so they pretty much rear him exclusively and that messes with the kids head a bit. He's six and extremely smart, but also extremely high-strung. Lovely combination.

During one conversation my brother told me that the kid had asked for a barbie doll. They questioned him as to why he'd want a barbie and his response was reasonable and elegant. "G.I. Joe needs a bitch." Where the **** do kids get this ****?!?! Especially one in first grade! Man.

My parents, the three visitors, my girlfriend, and I went to dinner and after eating concluded, we sat there having meaningless conversation about the weather or whatever else came up when the lil boy interrupted us with this gem: "WAIT! I get it! You two have sex! <points at my girlfriend and I>" Well that's lovely. Everyone was kind of stalled by that, but no one knew what to say. So in order to proactively eliminate any more comments that would lead to another 5 minutes of uncomfortable silence, I hand him a pen to draw pictures. Good idea. He decides to draw my girlfriend and I. He draws her a flattering stick-figure portrait, showing her lip ring and colored hair. Nice. Then he draws me. I'm going to attempt to recreate it, but I gauruntee it will do the drawing no justice.

*view picture*

Yes, he told me I was :
1. Fat
2. Had boobs
3. Had a ton of pimples
4. Was very hairy
5. Had a stupid beard

See the little dot by my foot? He told me that was my cell phone, since I was a giant too. That was almost flattering.

What did his grandma do? Nothing. I wanted to throw him out the ****ing window of a moving car, but I restrained. Instead, I started making fun of him for playing with barbies. I drew a cute little doll on the placement and taunted him.

Me: Look, I drew your pretty little barbie. Isn't it lovely?
Lil Bastard: Shut up!
Me: Do you put on a dress when you play with it?
Lil Bastard: Hey! Stop!
Me: I bet you have a lot in common with the girl you like at school. You both pee sitting down.

At this point the table next to us is laughing and my girlfriend is laughing and I was feeling kind of smug until I realized I just pwned a 6 year old. How ****ing pathetic. I handled it well though, because I could've called him a little homo who fantasizes that he is Barbie and G.I. Joe railed him in the ass every night, but I didn't. For my parents' sake.

The End.

The Ultimate Diet 2.0 for bulking as interpreted by galileo

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif Diet
Monday-Wednesday
The basic idea is to deplete yourself, the same as when cutting. The difference is that you don't want to lose any muscle during this phase so you up your calories a bit. I'd say a good level would be as follows:

calories: -15% -> maintenance.
protein : 1.2g/lb
carbs : 80-100g
fats : remainder

I'd start off at maintenance and then adjust the calories based on the progress from the week. I'd probably not go above maintenance as you'll start to get into a place where it may be difficult to deplete or you may gain fat. You may want to go even lower on the calories, depending on your propensity for fat gain, but it's totally personal. Try to get 3-4g of epa/dha on this day. The rest of your fats you should try to make as healthy as possible. I know it's hard, but you can get some good ideas from low-carb sites. Oil is j00 friend.

Thursday-Friday
Before Thursday's workout I'd take in 1-2 meals with low carbs and moderate protein, keeping fats to a minimum. I've read that FFA's can stay in your system for a while, so while not in a fasted state, I'd keep the fats low on this day. The night before you may even want to taper off your fat intake slightly, eating at the lower end of your maintenance levels.

You do your workout then start with your carb up. Over the next day and a half, I'd say to take in about 8g/lb in carbs, 1.2g/lb in protein, and trace fats. If you wish to add some efa's, I'd say the max you'd want would be 4g of epa/dha combined. Your trace fats will be enough for the rest of it.

Saturday-Sunday
This day should be a simple, carb heavy bulking diet. Protein at the constant 1.2g/lb, fats at ~15%, and the rest carbs. Focus on good healthy carbs like oatmeal, brown rice, and sweet potatoes. Whole grain breads and other fun stuff. Just make sure you keep your fats low. I'd say to put your calories at 10% over maintenance to start, then see how it goes. Some people can get away with more, some with less. The efa's are the same as previously suggested.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif Training
I won't break this down for you, but I'd follow the same program as already described in the pdf. The only changes I might make would be to do a hypertrophy workout on Saturday that follows something Majt has been kicking around lately. You'd do a full body workout that would go something like this:

heavy work 2 sets of 3-6 [2 minutes rest]
light major part work 3 sets of 12 [30 seconds rest]
support group work 2 sets of 3-6 [2 minutes rest]

For example:
bench 2x3-6
flyes 3x12
tricep extension 2x3-6

Complete that for each major bodypart. You can follow the pre/during/post workout guidelines set for the cutting version as well, perhaps increasing the during carbs slightly to assist you in finishing the workout.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif Supplements
I'd go with a simple EC stack on the low-carb days and swap it for some alpha lipoic acid and creatine on the other days. Nothing too fancy. If you wanna do some crazy prohormones or whatever, go for it.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif Afterthoughts
You may be suprised at the metabolic changes that occur after the refeeds. I noticed that the week after I stopped the diet I ate somewhat poorly for a few days and had no major changes, like what usually happens. This may mean that eating maintenance or below on the first few days will cause some unexpected fat-loss.
Adding cardio on Wednesday and Thursday morning may be a good way to lower your bodyfat levels/gains for the week. I'd select a long, slow walk over anything high intensity though, due to the levels of your glycogen.
I just thought of how cool it will be to tell your friends you are doing a refeed on a bulking diet. They'll think you are the bee's knees!

Disclaimer : These are just my opinions and interpretations based on what I've gleaned from using the cutting version of the diet (and some of what I read in the pdf). If you turn into a huge fat slob as a result of using this, then it's not my fault. I think the idea is pretty solid and I don't see why you'd gain excess fat if you properly deplete.

This weekend rocked! Friday night my girlfriend and her friends went to some haunted hayride that they used to go to when they were younger. What does this mean, you ask? Boys night out! Armed with the knowledge that my best friend's nazi girlfriend was out of town I went to his apartment and forced him to put on un-ghey clothing and come out to a casino/dogtrack with my new friends. In fact, I rushed him so much that he ended up wearing slippers because he forgot he had them on. Luckily, they weren't fuzzy bunny rabbit slippers or anything.

We go and I give his broke ass $2 in nickels so he can play a few games and I get myself $10 of the same. We go around and play a few games then settle in on some video poker for about a half-hour. That was a bust. I lost all of it! I had $1.25 in quarters in my pocket, so I decided to blow them on some slots for the hell of it. I put in each quarter and pulled the handle. 1, 2, 3, 4, nothing. 5...BAM! $3.75! So, I say I'll play another $1.25 and just leave it at that. The thing is, when you are playing with quarters, 15 quarters seems like a lot, but at the same time, it doesn't seem like much when you are just throwing it in the machine. I played the 5 and didn't win jack, but I was watching some dude moving from machine to machine winning, then switching machines, so I decided to just spend the rest of my earnings in that fashion. I mean, what the hell? I only really lost $11.25, total. I played a machine for a while then BOOM! 30 quarters! Switched, and a few spins later KABLOW! 15 more. Then switched one more time and KIZAPOWALLAKAZAAMKURWAAAAAAH! 150 quarters! I ****ing love slots. I walked away with about $40, which rocked. I went over to brag to my friends as I saw them lose most of their money. One of them sat at the $.25 poker machine looking frustrated. He had blown $20 on it and he wasn't thrilled. Then, in a moment of bravado mixed with insanity, he threw in a $20 bill and bet it all. We watched as he pressed the Draw button with some hesitation. His cards came up as follows:

2...2...2...2...J

The good news? Dueces' Wild, baby! 5 of a kind and straight! He walked away with $262.75. ****ing amazing!

The next evening we had a party at my house and we killed 30 rolling rock bottles and a fifth of vodka. My best friend was dragged to this event as well and he had a ****ing blast. I was so unbelievably happy to have him back. Then, in a moment of drunken honesty he busted out with some amazing details about the crumbling of his relationship. Yes folks, it looks like it's 95% over! The only thing left is for her to get the **** out of his apartment! This was one of the best weekends I've had in a very long time.

This morning I took some stats and I didn't gain any fat! A little water retention in the chest area that upped my pec pinch by 1mm, but the rest was the same as last week! That, my friends, is pwn4g3. I ate pizza, drank, and had a ****ing great weekend without doing any damage. Today I start back on UD2, just before my luck runs out.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Prandial Promulgation
I got up early and took a shower, then applied 2 sprays of Skulpt on each of my teats. I immediately became innundated by the smell of corn and menthol, which danced around my olfactory nerves. The next thing I'd noticed was the dark orange color left behind by the spray. It looked like I had began to use some first generation self-tanner but ran out after an all too generous chest application. Now I'm detecting an ever-present taste in my mouth, also very similar to the smell of corn. My hands smell like corn and even my piss smells like, you guessed it, corn. **** CORN. You know, if they can make something transdermal that makes your breath smell like corn, you'd think that they could make something that would make it taste minty, no? That would be a ****ing revolution! You rub a little on your hands in the morning and you get fresh breath all day long. Why the **** didn't I become a chemist?

Flat A&W Diet Cream Soda tastes horrible.

I was tired when I started and tired when I finished. It felt good to be back in the gym and the pump I got from this depletion workout was insane. I had a very difficult time washing my ass in the shower, but rest assured, it's clean. I switched some things up a bit though. I made my lat pulldowns wide and pronated, because I find the wrist strain unbearable with curl grip. Second, I did my cable flyes with a little less arm motion and more of a pivot on the shoulder in an attempt to use the chest more. Not sure if it worked, but it felt alright. I may need to increase the weight a bit for next week because the last set wasn't killing me. I got a lil nauseous, but it was definitely from drainage. It was cold last night and my nose got stuffed up. Today, I pay the price.

Bottom Line : Tired, but I finished it. I'm ready for my nap now.

It expired a long long time ago, my friend. The knees feel alright, but I still have some strain on the tendons behind my left knee. With this in mind I'm going to keep it very very light tomorrow and keep away from curl/extensions. Instead I'm going to do leg press, lunges, and perhaps glute ham raises. Just wait until you see the heinous stains that form on your shirts. Those are the best...

The fetish explained. Cold gear plain and simply hands down keeps my a$$ toasty warm. I don't need another layer I don't need anything but UA and my outer wear and I've skied nights when it was -45F with the windchill. I laugh at the cold....I laugh at norwegian sweaters that cost $200.00 plus. I don't sweat my ass off in it ,it wicks moisture away and it works. If the heat gear is anything like the cold gear it's simply the best value for the buck hands down.

Since finishing some big projects at work I have more free time to peruse the journals. I am no stronger now than I was last year about the same time and everyone else has pretty much blown by me with all of this cutting crap that I've done over the last 8, yes 8 months. The positive side is that I now have extreme desire to gain strength and come hell or high water, in 3 weeks I will be bulking and I will be gaining strength. From now on, there will be no more huge cuts and my bulks will be as lean as possible.

Speaking of failure and disappointment, here are some laughable goals I set last January.

Goals 2003
Subgoals [()'s] are not necessarily equivalents, but they would also be nice.
My current stats are listed in blue.

Bodyweight and composition: 180-185 @ 8-10% [180 @ 14%]

Deadlift: 405x1 [335x1]
Bench Press: 275x1[260x1 (estimated)]
Dips: +125x8 [+105.5x8]
Chins: +70x8 [+43x8]
DB Rows: 143x8 [123x8]
Incline DB Bench: 100x8 [80x8]
<insert random leg goals>

There you have it. I think these goals are somewhat attainable. I know I'll get a few of them. (Note, I adjusted some of these to reflect the max weight I was using at the time).

Somewhat? Looks like I didn't get a ****ing one of them, and I can't even do the weight I did then.

Taking another quote from history, this is how most of my lifts have gone.

You may say, "galileo, weren't you doing like 200x8 about a month ago." Then I might reply, "**** YOU OKAY? **** **** **** YOU you ****ING COCK-FACE MOTHER****ER." Then you might say, "Please galileo sir, don't hurt me!"

Here's a laughable one on cutting.

I'm about 20lbs heavier than when I cut on 2000, so it may be the ticket. Somedays I'll eat more and do cardio. I think this cut may last about 12 weeks, depending on a bunch of factors.

A "bunch of factors" must not have included me failing miserably.

Funny though, I weigh about the same today as I did at the end of February of this year. I'm definitely far leaner, so I don't know exactly what happened. My muscle measurements are the same, as far as I can tell, so it wasn't like I threw on a ton of muscle, but my ab pinch is 10mm smaller, chest 2mm smaller, and my thigh is 3mm smaller. These things baffle me. I pinched .5 lower on the abs and 1 lower on the leg this morning. Hope it keeps going down in this fashion.

Alright, enough nostalgia and frustration. I'm on a countdown to hugeness!

...and now for your moment of Zen. (http://www.joeskopec.com/snap3.jpg)

Depletion Two.

I popped 15mg of yohimbine hcl and went on in...

  ˇ db curl
     25x15, x15, x15
  ˇ lying db tricep extension
     25x15, x15, x15

  ˇ db lunges
    35x20, x20, x20
  ˇ glute ham raises
    +0x15, x15, x15 (last 5 reps were assisted)

After 3 supersets of curls/extension my arms were fried. They were fried from yesterday, really. I did less with my legs today because I was afraid of injuring my tendons. I used a more acute angle on the leg press to limit ROM and I did db lunges/ghr instead of ****ty machine curls/extensions. I think I'm going to be way better off for it. My legs were shaky and fried after all this, so I stopped at 3 sets for the final superset. The yohimbine wasn't much of a stimulant like ephedrine, but it provided a focus that was helpful. I'm most hoping for an effect on my stubborn fat, so the focus is just a pleasant side effect.

Bottom Line : Tired, yet calmly motivated.

I napped a bit throughout the evening and went to bed for good soon enough to get 7.5 hours of sleep and I feel 100% ****ing better for it.

Fat loss has continued better than expected this week. I lost a considerable amount from my pinches this morning. I did a few gamaic ab pinches which were 9.5, 9.5, and 10mm. A leg that was 13.5 and 14 and a pec at 4.5mm. That puts me down in the 3-site mid 7's, adjusted would put me a little under 10%. I need to start tanning again. That's on the todo list for tonight. But overall my chest is more defined and I'm getting closer to being ripped.

Sweet God I wish I had followed through with this diet in June when I first tried it. I made a few key mistakes that week, like starting low cals on the weekend. I thought since I slept more it would be easier to eat less and I thought it would allow for my workouts to be better spaced. I would have been ripped in time for California and I would not still be cutting right now.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Prandial Promulgation
I used the hot glue and dimes trick that squarehead told me about and sprayed the stuff around the nipples, but not on them. This hurt far far less. I still hate the corn flavor.
