I found my triceps got a little sore yesterday so I decided to take last night off instead of doing chest work. I'd rather be at full strength. So, I went to my friends' show in Pittsburgh. We drove through the predominantly lower-class community and I reluctantly parked my car in a lot out of view. We walked over to the venue and the only way I could describe it would be that it smelled like "Noah's Arc," which is a walk-through ride at our local amusement park - Kennywood. It's a combination of sweat, murky water, and rubber. But, it was far better than the stank of cat piss that was overwhelming us as we walked outside to get some fresh air. While we stood around and some of my friends had some cigarettes a small black woman approaches us with the typical "I'm out of gas" routine. What she meant to say was "I'm out of crack." So one of my friends gave her $0.12 and a cigarette. I'm sure that plus a blowjob will get her a rock of crack from the one of the locals. Then her crackhead neighbor came in and asked us for change a total of 7 times before the night was over. Back and forth. The 8th time he stopped by he had a handful of change and asked us if we had dollar bills for his change. <sigh>

The highlight of my evening was when my ex-friend (remember the one who recently ****ed me over) approached me with his hand out. I looked at his hand, then his face. He said, "Come on man, no hard feelings." I said, "Of course you don't have any hard feelings." Then he said, "It's cool man, seriously. I'm sorry." I shook his hand and told him that he ****ed me and I no longer considered him a friend. I don't hate him nor do I care one way or the other anymore. I just refuse to maintain a friendship with someone who's actions show disrespect in such a blatant way.

Anyhow, my friends' band did great! They put on a hell of a show and it was very fun. Really made me wish I could be in a band again. I had an offer to come out for an "East Coast Hardcore" band, but I'm not really into that type of music. I'll probably go check it out anyhow, but I'm not into "tough guy" music.

I'm less pained today by my burn and just my shoulders remain sensitive. I'm going to cancel my Thursday appointment and shoot for Saturday. Plus, I'm going to request 6 minutes instead of 8. I think in the long run I'll be better off.

I skewed from my diet last night because I went out, but I really don't think it mattered. My protein was still where I wanted it to be and my calories were still around 2000. I had grilled chicken and some nuggest at wendy's. I didn't have time to bring my food and even if I did I wouldn't have enough to get the calories I needed, so it was justified. Just a little extra cardio, later heh.

OK, the ****ing 95's owned me very hard and I just dropped all the plates except the 25's off and did my sets. I am so out of energy tonight. The diet is just getting to me.

How in the holy ass do you eat so clean? Oh, and that's really funny about your friend's show. My friends play in clubs in downtown San Antonio, and every single time I go, I get the "My car is out of gas" routine. You'd think bums would get a little more creative, or at least not walk up with their shopping carts when asking for gas money.

Don't you ever get sick of tuna? I can go a week or two eating it regularly but then I can't stand to look at it for a while.

froMo : I have very distinct goals at this point. I want to resemble a human being when I go to the beach. That is enough incentive to get me to eat this strict. Plus, when you include refeeds on your diet, you can look forward to a day of eating less than clean foods. I've found so far it has worked well. Today My ab pinch dropped to 11.5, from 12 on friday. With any luck it'll be 11 this friday and keep going down. 4 weeks left.

mik : After so long I just eat and don't think about what I'm eating. If you can manage to remove the pleasure factor from food (at least temporarily) then it becomes extremely easy to just eat what you bring.

I've been super tired lately. My bodyweight was back down to around 170 this morning. I never know what's good and what's bad. I do know that in the evenings I get so ****ing bloated that it sickens me. In the morning my love handles are gone and everything is cool. I've been trying a new way of doing my 3-site caliper test, which seems to show more accuracy to my mirror estimation. I grab all the fat I can in the area, not just pinch the site, I mean pull in a ton. With that, I am now around 9.4%, which may even be close to accurate. I don't really care about the number as much as the progress though. When I no longer feel chubby, then I'll be happy.

So far my morning has sucked again. I don't feel like even beginning to explain it, but I am feeling ****ty as a result.

rg570 : Thank you!

rookie : I'll get them someday. I thought I had it in me, but I was wrong.

mik : Thanks. The 210 felt as good as the 205, except the last rep was a little rough. Plus, you can kiss my ass. MUAHAHA!

More excellent dieting.

I'm upping my overall fats and lowering my carbs a little. My extra fats will come from good ol' Omega 3's. Trying to get at least 6g of EPA/DHA everyday. I may not hit today's diet on the head due to lack of preparation, but I am going to get close. I know that some people don't buy the P+C, P+F notions but again I'll repeat that I don't care. It is just as convenient and due to the nature of my carbs, it sure won't make my insulin spike drastically. 4 meals for each combo. I am entertaining ways to increase my protein back up to around 300g, but it doesn't seem simple without overusing whey. I may throw in some whey with my last meals anyhow.

No point IMO to eating that much protein, but if you're really set on it buy some casein. HSN Driver is quite tasty, plus it's got fiber and a bit of n-3's. Met-Rx Protein Plus would work, too.

Your diet has given me an idea as well. I usually eat two large (1 cup) bowls of oatmeal a day, but it might be good to split those up further and eat a little meat with them. A bowl of oatmeal counted as a "meal" in my earlier scheme.

b&i : Yes, it seems more accurate. No I don't. I'd rather fill my cals with healthy fats and protein than carbs. </story>

scott : a bowl of oatmeal isn't a meal unless you have some protein with it! The more meals you eat the higher your metabolism will remain. If your body goes a while without food it will slow down to stave off starvation. It seems to work fine so far.

I hit my goal of 170 for today. I looked noticably leaner than last week and my abs are really popping in the mornings. When I'm not retaining much water from carbs, my lower chest looks way way better than it has before. I am officially never allowing myself to get fat again. I have some ace quad separation this morning, which I hope sticks around until tonight so I can get a picture. I've always wanted quad separation. Less fat is coming off of the abs now and more is coming off of other areas, which isn't a bad thing.

The biggest problem now is that when my chest is leaner, it is quite apparent how small it is. When I start my slow clean bulk, my focus will be calves anc chest fo shizzie.

mik : That was me letting my frustration out on the keyboard.
scott : I'm trying to get away from whey, but any protein is better than none.

Last night I bought some salmon and baked it. I need a little more experience before it will turn out wonderful, but it was still decent. I checked the contents on it and it is a SUPA FOOD! 16g of healthy amazing fats and 49g of protein for the half I ate! I saved the other half for dinner today.

I gave in and bought 2 tubs of HSN Driver last night. I really needed something to replace my morning whey and I plan on using it to eliminate some of the tuna from my diet. I don't love tuna and the more I think about the mercury thing the more I get afraid of it. Too bad it's about the cheapest thing in my diet.

I'm not sure if I will refeed this weekend or not. If I do, it will only be for one day and I'm really going to restrict myself. I think I did a little bit of damage last week, even though I was ultimately low in fat. I think I used a little too much fructose.

Calves?! Rock on! They've become just about my favorite body part to train. You don't have to shave your legs but trim them up a bit and you'll be surprised at how much definition is really there.

How are you cooking your salmon? I just toss mine on the Foreman grill. Quick, easy and I like it so much it doesn't have to be that well prepared. :)

I used to bake salmon all the time. There's a pretty decent recipe in one of the Zone books. You slice up some red and green peppers, onions, and squash/zucchini. Place it in a small dish coasted with olive oil and some water, place the salmon on top and cover the whole thing with paprika/spices. Cover with tinfoil and bake for 30min or so.

Or something.

I really liked it...until after eating it every night for like 3 months, it started to make me want to gag.

I love salmon on the grill or the oven. Try and find someplace in your area that has it fresh. Since you don't need to cook the liveing **** out of the fish, pink and translucent is still ok.

Sashimi grade fish is excellent and raw tuna, ever so slightly seared, is to die for. yum yum.

45° leg press [with calf-raise superset]: 2ppsx8[x25], 4ppsx5, 6p+25psx8, 6p+10psx8
My ROM suffered a little bit on the 6+25, but I stuck it out. The positive thing is that the 4pps felt like there was no weight on the sled at all. So overall I'm still getting stronger. The 6+10 was as deep as the warmups, so I'm going to assume my feet were positions poorly (I didn't pay attention for some reason and it felt awkward going down). I think I'm going to do 6+25 again next week and save 7pps for the following week. (+40)

I did some hacksquats between the second and third set, which allowed for more recovery.

smith machine hack squats : 1ppsx8, 1p+10psx8
I'm constantly trying to get rid of leg extensions.
These were terribly uncomfortable. I found it very difficult to keep my balance since the bar was fixed on the tracks. I am going to work with low weights until I feel comfortable with them.

lying hamstring curl : 100x8, 100x8
I was pissed at events around be, so I really pushed these out. Decent. (+5)

hip abductor : 70x8, 130x8, 160x8
These were almost difficult! Good weight. (+10)

knee raises : +0x10, +5x10
Some douche bag was on the cable station so I had to squeeze myself into the assisted chin/dip station to do these. They're harder than they look. I used a baby blue dumbbell between my legs to do these, btw. I felt someone jotofied.

So-so performance. I think I expected more out of my hack squats or something. I dunno.

Tai Chi? Yup.
As soon as I started working out some guy comes in and begins stretching on the stretch machine (without warmup of any sort). He looks to have a solid 20lbs or more on me and he is way more cut. As I rest between sets I pay attention to what he is doing. Here is the jist of his workout...
2 sets of alternating dumbbell curls
2 sets of preacher curls
2 sets of cable curls
3 sets of triangle bar tricep pushdowns
3 sets of rope tricep pushdowns
2 sets of DUMBBELL KICKBACKS
2 sets of one arm cable tricep kickbacks
2 sets of one arm cable curls
[plus whatever I missed]

After he finished these he went to the ab machine, then supersetted that with some crunches in that ab thing that you put your head and arms in and it kind of "rolls" up as you do the crunch. I don't remember what the **** it's called. I was on the calf-raise when he started doing kickbacks and I started laughing out loud but I caught myself. I know he noticed, but he is WAY bigger than me, so who am I to laugh?

Well I left, showered, changed, got ready, and when I looked in he was still doing more arm/ab work. <sai>

Is this why he is ****in huge and I am small? Should I be doing 20+ sets for my arms (probably 2-3 times a week)? Everyday I go in the work gym I see someone bigger than me doing something that I used to think was a good way to stay small. I don't even know anymore.

I can't wait until this cut is over. I'm going to put on another 20 ****ing lbs this year. **** this bull****.

Don't worry about the arm guy. Its just genetics. Some people are cursed with great genetics and don't know jack about what to do with them. Just imagine if he trained the right way.

How do you know this wasn't just his arm day?

I was doing something not too different while doing Arnold Double-split HST routine. I was still deadlifting, etc three times a week as well.

DUDE I actually did something similar to that one time. I just happened to be making a pirate joke in a restaurant one time. The punch line involves covering one eye and saying "I can see where you arrrr" as I did that my buddy scooted a little to one side to reveal the guy in the booth behind us wearing an eye patch. This made for an uncomfortable silence then uproarious uncontrollable laughter and even some pointing.

Oh ya u think the guy you stalked at the gym was using AS?

Hey Gal. Nice progress on the cut. From what I've read you're leaning out rather well. How many days do you have left? At 9% I dont think you'd have much of a cut left. Have you finally started/lost the fat that hangs around on your chest? When do we get to see the new Galileo in pics?

Salmon's really really good broiled, G-Love. Even grocery store salmon. Just stick it under the broiler (really close to the element) skin side down and let it cook for about 12-15 minutes (depending on how thick it is.) (If you squirt soy sauce on it first, and some sesame seeds, it's even better.) It gets kind of browned and crispy on top, and it stays succulent inside instead of all dried out and flaky and grody.

(Broil it in the toaster oven, if you have such a thing. And if you don't, get one. They rule.)

Oh yeah.....nice work on the lean-o-riffic-ness! I bet you will be teh stud in Cali. No hoodie on the beach for you!

Galileo.

In addition to CG's recipe for the salmon, I also refined to more for ya.

400 degrees in oven, 20mins max. Could be less if the salmon is fresh enough and you like it pink (translucent) inside.

On the one, I used garlic, lemon juice, basil, thyme and marjoram.

On the other, I used ginger, lime juice, cumin, cardamon and coriander.

I baked 4lbs and made the family tell me which one they like the best. Garlic wins every time. I was a bit stingy on the juice so I'll more the next time to punch it up a bit.

Later.

Over the last few days I've not been able to focus much on my goals due to personal issues. I won't be making any updates for a little bit...at least until everything is resolved. I'm at the point where I am close enough to my goals where I can take a short break for my sanity's sake. The sooner I feel better, the sooner I can refocus.

Hey Gal, sorry to hear things arent going so well. You seem like a really strong minded individual and I know you will have them sorted out in no time.

On another note, when you get the chance can you help me out w/ refeeds? You're like the dieting king or something so I figured you'd have some valuable input.

galileo

mik : Thanks man. I'm halfway sorted at the moment, and I'm doing all I can to keep my diet at a level that shows I care even slightly. I've been drinking a lot of soda and having fast food the last few days because I was basically in, "I don't give a ****" mode. When your personal life is less than optimal, that can kick in quite easily. I'll be ok though. My best case ab pinch is now 10.5mm and my worst case is 13mm. The bad thing about it is, I can't really see much of a difference. My bodyweight was 171 this morning but I'm likely holding more water from the excess carbs so I am going to say I am a little under 170 at the moment.

homeY : Yeah, it doesn't seem to be where I left it.

heath : Thanks, that means a lot to me. I wish I was a confident about my appearance as everyone else! Unfortunately, I still see a fatty when I look in the mirror.

froMo : I have a feeling I will never get naked with a random chick again. My girl would frown upon that, big time. Plus, the unkempt pubes and all... Thanks again bro.

justin : I appreciate that. I feel I can handle non-emotional problems with great ease. As soon as the emotion factor comes into play, the situation changes.

I will definitely help you out with refeeds when you need. I suggest about a month of straight dieting (low carbs [100 or less] and high EFA's), then introduce a day long refeed once a week. Let me know when you need refeed info. I'd love to be the diet king. But right now, my goal is to become the recomposition king. I want to be able to add lean mass without fat. There seem to be a lot of success stories coming out about people achieving just this. It's all about forward thinking. I'm glad other people are doing some of that ;)

Before I begin, I will state that if you wish to discuss my return in any amount of detail, feel free to PM me. No need to clutter my journal.

I'm back up around 12% bodyfat and I want to get down to 8 before I begin bulking. This weekend I was a variety of weights from a depleted 171 to a full 178, so pick a weight and run with it. I'm not worried about muscle loss right now; I'll keep my strength up and deal with any loss during my clean bulk next month.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Consumables
I refed this weekend. It was pleasant.

Going to try chest at work again today, even though I'd rather be benching.

cybex bench press : 100x5, 160x5, x5, x5, x5, x5
cybex chest fly : 70x5, 80x5, 80x5
incline bench fly : (2)35x5, (2)40x5, x5
tricep rope pushdown : 140x5, x5, x5, x4, x4

cardio : 22 minutes on the treadmill at 6.0 incline @ 3.9 speed.

Ok, so I go in and start doing these presses. I upped it by 10lbs this week. The last set was pretty hard, but I got them. I was proud. So I'm watching this guy (who never speaks to me) do bench and last week I saw him do 155x10 and struggle. This week I see him put on 235 so I figure I'd give it a look. He gets about 2 reps up on the smith machine and then tries to latch it, but can't I run over as soon as I saw him miss the latch because I assume he was in trouble. He thanked me, but it was obvious he was embarrassed. Then, he asked some other guy to spot him on the next set, lol! Man, he has a problem with pride, heheh.

So, next is the chest fly. I HATE THIS THING. It sucked ass in the worst way. It hurts my shoulders and I don't feel like I'm using my chest to push it up at all. So after a few sets I go to the incline bench and grab me some dumbbells. Next week I can definitely do 45's. I would've used the flat bench, but the guy that nearly got ****ed in the neck by the barbell was using it.

Finally, I go to the rope pushdown and put on 140lbs. In retrospect I see that I used 120 last week and I totally thought I used 130...whoops. I did fairly well for a 20lb jump, wouldn't you say?

My right shoulder is a lil hurt from the cybex fly, but it'll be ok. Next week I'll just use the db's.

I shot for 140-150bpm for the cardio. I stayed in that range the whole time. 152 calories burned, baby!

I took pictures this morning, but I looked a little bloated. Maybe by bloated I mean lard-assish. I am noticing a small difference in my chest so far.

I felt the absolute need to drink coffee today. I'm not drinking it nearly as much as I had been the previous month though, which is comforting. I don't think epehedrine or caffeine have ever done anything for me as far as fat-loss goes. But what I do know is that they both cause some issues with insulin sensitivity. That kinda goes against my whole goals with supplementation (efa's, r-ala, green tea, etc). So, I try to limit it. Luckily the half-life is so short that it's not a long-term deal.

I get to go to the amusement park tonight. w00t! We have this place called Kennywood, which is sort of like a Six Flags, and that's where my friends and I are heading after work. The thing that sucks about this is that there is very very little choice in what foods I get to eat. They don't have anything but snack-type options and that's not inline with my ****ing goals, ****ers.

If you have a minute, check out this : http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/audio/nascar.php

You mentioned the half-life being short... is this applying to the caffiene?

If caffiene is centered around a workout when carbs are being used for fuel then it really shouldn't matter unless you are over-doing the preworkout and post workout shakes right?

Berardi thinks it's a big deal.

Lyle (if I'm remembering correctly) thinks the increase in insulin sensitivity due to exercise/diet pretty much negates the insulin- desensitizing effects of caffeine.

Ephedrine's half-life is about 2-3 hours.

Half-life of caffeine is about 6 hours I think (could be off a bit)

I was wondering about that too but would the extra sensitivity actually be that much more beneficial instead of just negating it? Is the benefits of taking caffiene enough reason to keep taking it regardless of its effects on insulin sensitivity?

That's interesting. I wonder how much of a real effect caffeine would have on a weight-training person, and at what dosages. While I consider myself to be a "healthy individual", I bet my insulin sensitivity is way better than the average person who is merely not sick!

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/bullet.gif homeyield/bi/scott : Here's my take on it : If you are consuming caffeine for the majority of the day, it could cause some minor ill-effects. My goal right now is to vastly improve my insulin sensitivity and perhaps use this to change my metabolic set point, so I can consume more carbs with less effect. I honestly don't think anyone should let this keep them up at night, especially if in a caloric deficit. However, if you are bulking and want all yer goodies to go to the right places, maybe it would be worth experimenting. As far as Lyle goes, I am starting to wonder about him. Anything I've read from him lately has been sort of...off?

What are you referring here to, gal? Most of the things he's written over on Avant have made quite a bit of sense to me lately. Seems to be typical no BS, clear-cut Lyle.

Par seemed a little disenchanted by the whole thing. I've read through the more recent arguments he's had on the fitness newsgroup and it seemed like he was way more into arguing(aka insulting) than presenting ideas. I'm not taking credit away from him for anything he's done though...but I can't believe things based solely on the fact that it is his opinion anymore. Especially when his opposition often comes with very strong arguments. I'm still going to read whatever he puts out, but with a more scrutinizing eye. Even he denounces his earlier beliefs (ketogenic diet), which I happened to follow quite strictly (perhaps blindly?). I may still give his new modified CKD a try at some point when I feel I can handle it. It's just too intense for me unless I'm at 100%.

I followed that finger ratio discussion on MFW for awhile, and it was just kind of a tongue-in-cheek thing for Lyle, I think. If you search around pubmed, you'll see that there are actually a lot of papers on it, so it does have research behind it.

Agreed with arguing on MFW, but thats just the nature of the beast.

I like reading his debates on Avant, because it seems a lot of regulars there get really caught up into imposing some pretty wild ideas onto supplements from the research. The research is good and everything, but when there are so many studies done rats or in vivo its quite a stretch to extrapolate that to trained bodybuilders. Its good to see Lyle come and expose some of that stuff, especially in regards to BCAA and EAA supplementation. Seems the jury is still out on that one...though it does seem like Par made some pretty good "guesses" with Leptigen 2, judging by the phenomenal feedback.

I wasn't there for the Avant discussion, but I haven't seen anything lately that lessens my respect for Lyle. I don't think one should accept unquestioningly anyone's theories. Even Einstein got some stuff wrong (And, no, I'm not comparing Lyle to Einstein). Everybody makes mistakes; each person has his own preconceptions which he brings to the table when looking at the literature. I think Lyle is better in this regard than most people. To me, the fact that he's revised (though, certainly not denounced) his earlier theories on ketogenic dieting is to his credit. I would be much more suspicious of his conclusions if he instead stuck to his previous beliefs, even in the face of contradictory evidence.

He's always been pretty insulting and argumentative. That's nothing new.

And to echo Fuzz's comments, I really enjoy seeing him on Avant simply because, IMO, he cuts through a lot of the bulls*t (e.g. the EAA discussion) and wild speculation that goes on there. There are a ton of very smart, knowledgeable people there--who know 100 times more than I'll ever know. But they tend to get really caught up on the importance of thing which are, IMO, very minor points and, in all probability, make f*ck all difference.

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif The Introduction
Yes, it's my birthday. (https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=hollowmedia@yahoo.com) In celebration I plan on working, taking a nap, then going to the same place I go almost every ****ing day of my life (eat n' park). Sound fun? Well the real festivities won't take place until the weekend. Friday evening my friends are taking me out to eat followed by a massive party at my apartment. Then, saturday we're heading up to da' burgh to hit up the museum scene. Warhol, carnegie, mattress factory, wood street, and any other we have a chance to hit. My friends are ****ing rockin'.

Last night was really fun, but as I approached the beginning of my 25th year I realized that I am not nearly as vivacious as I once was. I arrived at the park about 7:00 and between then and 10:00 we rode five roller coasters, 4 things that spun us fast, upside down, or both, and two things that were just asinine. I was BEAT. I ate a little too much before I got there so I wouldn't have to eat at the park but that ended up backfiring and making me feel like absolute ****. As I did my social survey on the people of the park I was reassured that everyone in this area is complete trash. Notable sightings were "lady with calves double the width of her shoes," "weirdest neck I've ever seen man," and "hairiest neck I've ever seen man." Then there were a bunch of tarugo-twins everywhere. Who the **** dresses identically to go to an amusement park? Let alone teenage girls and boys.

This morning started off fun. Heavy storms through the region caused power outages and an unbearable commute. I had to drive 40mph on the highway all the way down because if I went any faster I would hydroplane into the median. I ended up being an hour late to work. Couple that with the 30 minutes early I left yesterday and I get to stay until 6:00 tonight. You know what though? I don't give a ****. I'm leaving on time. I'll make it up another day.

I'm not counting this week toward my cut. With all of the events planned out for me, I am finding it extremely difficult to keep everything on track. I plan on eating as healthy as possible though and I'll attempt to do no damage. I'll pick back up on Sunday. Things should calm down by then. When I looked in the mirror this morning I saw a noticable difference in my chest and love handles, even though I had an iced tea last night and a few sips of soda. I think cardio makes a bigger difference than I used to think. I'm no longer anti-cardio, even though it is evil in multiple ways. As you know multi-faceted evil is the worst kind.

I just realized that my One Year Anniversary (http://64.191.60.103/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22903&perpage=25&pagenumber=1) has just passed but only a week ago. I've put on a solid 20lbs this year, which would've been way more had I not ****ed around cutting most of the time. I've only spent 3 months of the 12 bulking. Amazing, eh? Here is a lame-ass thing I did in MSPaint showing my minimal progression over the year : BEFORE AND AFTER (http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/before_and_after.jpg) and here's a somewhat recent pic that I just liked : JUST A SHOT I LIKE (http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/shoulders.jpg).

Going for a birthday leg day.

45° leg press : 2ppsx5, 4ppsx3, 6p+25psx5, x5, x5, x5, x5
45° calf-raise : 4ppsx20, x20, x20
Smith [:(] SLDL: 65x5, 135x10, 225x5
dumbbell walking lunges : 52.5x5:5, x5:5, x5:5
cable ab crunch : 150[stack]x10
hanging knee raises : +10x5, x5, x5, x5
cybex ab crunch : [giant set]65x5->80x5->100x5, 80x10, 80x10

The leg press wasn't bad. I tried to lower it as far as I could without crushing my ribs. The calf-raise was rough on the last set, but I pulled through. Smith machine SLDL's SUCK. God, I ****ing hate smith machines. The walking lunges were murder, the cable crunch was ****ing way too easy, the leg raises sucked, like always, and the cybex ab crunch wasn't too bad.

There is officially only 90lbs worth of plates left that I haven't used on the leg press in the gym. If I progress at my current rate, I'll be ****ed in 2 weeks. I'm open to suggestions. Today I outgrew the dumbbells for lunges. I need a new gym...

I feel better today, I'm going to Benihana's tonight for a birthday fizeast! I will be consuming mad raw fish, boyeee. It should be a good time had by all.

My friend bought me pair of skateboarding shoes for my birthday! I really needed a pair, so that was a perfect gift. My board will be in next week so I'll be doing cardio, punk-kid style. I'm getting the presents from my other friends tonight. I hope I get a pony.

I'm going to have my birthday party tonight too! Gonna keep the drinking to a minium though. I'll likely do 5 shots of vodka or something with no carbs. Loading up on the r-ALA too.

I want to start bulking right now. I can't due to fat. Die.

Back and Biceps.

supinated grip chinups : +0x5, +10x5, +15x5, +15x5, +15x5
cybex neutral rows : 135x5, x5, x5, x5, x5
smith shrugs suck : 195x5, 245x5
incline alternating dumbbell curls : 45x5:5, x5:5, x4:4

I warmed up for the chins with 60lbs on the lat pulldown then moved to the chinup bar on the cable rack, which was occupied by a girl doing incline db presses inside of it. I alternated with her and she snarled at me. I don't even ask anymore, I just move their **** and lift. **** people. Then on to the chinups. I decided to switch from neutral to supnated for a while. Perhaps I can pull harder with my lats this way. I planned on doing bodyweight 5x5, but I felt like too much of a pussy so I used my belt and strapped on some plates. The last rep of the last set required a lot more strength, but I got it. The rows were meh as usual. If I was comparing these to cable neutral grip rows, I'd say they were more like 225lbs or more. Teh smith machine shrugs don't work because my ass is too ****ing big. If I put the bar in front of me, it's uncomfortable, so I'm just gonna put aside a day for shoulders and neck (to get my pencil neck thicker) on the weekend. The db curls were alright, after a long workout they were stronger than last week. My bis were pretty wasted from the chinups, so I guess I was pleased.

I ended the workout with 10 minutes on the treadmill @ 10.0 incline and 3.4 speed. I would've done more but it was late and it was boring.

Friday night we went to Benihana and I got salmon sashimi (raw slabs of fish) and yellow tail maki (seaweed/rice/fish). It was wonderful. I also had some shrimp and some chicken in shrimp sauce. Delicious! Then we went back to my apartment and I opened some presents and cards. Let me tell you, the cards were really heartfelt and touching. I feel I'm lucky to have the friends that I have. Then came some drinking! We played a few drinking games then watched my new House of 1000 Corpses DVD. The following day we had planned on going to the museum, but one of my friends had to work so we postponed it until the coming week. Instead I just went out to eat and chilled a bit. More of the same on Sunday, plus playing some Tony Hawk 4. I bought the woman Wario Ware for my GBA so she would have something to do while I played (other than bitching at me).

I wanted to workout on Monday, but I just didn't have the energy. I gave my hands a good workout playing video games for about 3 hours.

Chest and triceps.

cybex chest press : 165x5, x5, x5, x5, x5
incline dumbbell flyes : 45x5, x5, x5, x5, x5
cable flyes : 70x5, 70x5, 70x5
(e-z bar, bleh) skull crushers: 75x5, x5
pronated tricep pressdowns : 140x5, x5, x4

The last set on the chest press was quite difficult. I may attempt 2.5lb jumps from here on out. The dumbbell flyes feel more like they're pulling my shoulders out of their sockets than working my chest. It seems like there is about 2" of the ROM which causes any strain. I opted to try cable flyes today because my chest didn't feel worked. They weren't too bad. I'll have to do them a few weeks to really see how I like them. I just picked a weight and tried it, so I don't know what my true basal strength will be on this exercise. I'll progress slowly as I go. I tried some skull crushers with the e-z bar and it was less than comfortable. I didn't feel very safe with it either. I did some pronate tricep pressdowns and got the **** out of there. My arms were pumped when I left, making it hard to shower. I'm not used to getting a pump when I workout. We'll see how the chest feels tomorrow.

I went to Best Buy and bought mine before they even had time to put it out on the shelf. I played about 4 hours yesterday. Nightmare is by far my favorite but I'm really getting to like Necrid. Link has some potential but I also think he might be a bit cheap. Mitsurugi is good and the guy that all my friends liked (and got beat with a good bit ;) ). Cervantes is another one of my favorites. Good combination of power and speed. Astaroth is one that I use on occassions just for fun. He's got some of the best looking throws. Ivy is the only girl I'll use. That whip sword can cause some damage and she has enough close range attacks to still be bothersome.

Okay. I'm done talking about it now. I'm going home to play it! :D

I had to take my car to the dealership today because when my turbo spooled, it was making a loud hissing sound as it blew air against the inside of my fender. I assumed it was either the intercooler or the diverter valve, but I settled on it being the diverter valve after more research. Turns out, it was the intercooler. What have we learned? I don't know ****ing **** about cars. Anyhow, this ordeal took up most of my morning. Now, I'm going to have to stay at work a bit later this evening to finish up this project.

Chest DOMS has arrived. I haven't been this excited since the test results came back negative.

My new skateboard arrived yesterday evening. I was hoping for my mega-potency fish oil caps, but this is just as good. I will likely build it this evening and cut the grip tape tomorrow. My goals for the upcoming year will now include not breaking any bones. Wish me luck.

I had a breakfast mishap (no cold water for the protein shake), so I just got some bagels with egg at McDonald's on the way to the dealership. That wasn't quite productive. Ugh, going to have to hit some extra cardio today. That's cool tho, last night I skipped my last protein shake because I was too tired and not particularly hungry. I guess this morning more than made up for that.

But related to that question, what's the percentages you have out beside that?

galileo

2.4g of Green Tea extract (8 pills). 60% polyphenols 40% catechins and 11% ECGC.

Not a lot, really. I hope to pick up some with higher concentrations of ecgc soon. I really dig the research on it.

galileo

In order to get the proper amount of ECGC, you need to take a bunch. People have found effective dosages to start around 300-600mg of pure ecgc.

I went to eat n' park (restaurant) last night and sat on the floor and assembled my skateboard with my friends. It was hillarious because all of the patrons looked at us funny, yet not one member of the staff as much as questioned what we were doing. They're so used to us doing completely assinine things I guess. At one point, my friend changed his clothes in the booth, so I guess they expect whatever. After some coffee we went out to the parking lot to find something to tighten the trucks. It looks like it uses some odd tool, but after reading up on it today, it turns out that an it was an allen after all. We went out to the parking lot and began to skate and it was ****ing magic. Not only was it amazing cardio, but it was approxiamately 6.022e²³ times more fun than ****ing sauntering upon a ****ing treadmill for 30 minutes. I have a new love, and thy name is skateboard.

I looked in the mirror when I came home last night and I swear to you I'm getting fatter. I don't understand how one could retain water on such little carbs. It makes no sense to me, but I've come to terms with the fact that my body is absolutely horrible at dealing with food. From the looks of it I'm probably like 40% bf. Ok, maybe closer to 15%, but I am still way fatter than I want to be. I can't lower my calories any further without fear of muscle loss, so I will just ride it out and bulk during the winter. During that time I'll attempt to put on about 100lbs of lean mass. Did I say 100? Ok, I'd like to shoot for a possible 10, perhaps 15.

Small legs and weak abs.

45° leg press : 3ppsx5, 6p+35psx5, x5, x5, x5, x5
45° calf-raise : 3p+35psx20[neutral], x15[in], x5[in]->15[out]
smith sldl : 195x5, x5
cybex hamstring curl : 80x5, 90x5, 100x4
ab stuff : ...

The leg press was occupied by a girl doing calf-raises with 0pps. Like a gentleman, I stood quietly next to the machine and waited, staring viciously. She soon moved and I began to load up the plates. Doing this alone is beginning to suck. I was really tired to start and I have to carry the weights from across the room. The first workset was a little stiff, but I realized I was pressing too slow. The rest of the sets were too simple, but I didn't expect difficulty from increasing but only 20lbs this week. I need to keep progression steady, but slow so I don't run out of weight. I'm likely going to have to get a weight belt and start squatting again. I hope my back will hold out, because I'll likely increase the weights fairly quickly once I begin to bulk. PRAY FOR ME.

The calf-raises were bland, but I honesty think my calves have grown since I started doing the high reppers. I tried some SLDL, but it's just too uncomfortable on that machine. Hamstring curls suck and I have weak as **** hamstrings. Did some crunches and work on the ab machine and got out of there. Long ass workout.

Ahhh...

What is this wonderful feeling I have deep within my body? What is giving me the urge, the impetus to conquer the world today? Yes, my friends, it's ephedrine hcl. The nectar of the GODS. I've decided to go back on it. Why? Why not!

I've decided that since I'm damned near out of plates at the gym, it is time to get serious and squat at home. I'm going to pick up an Inzer belt (http://www.monstermuscle.com/belts.asp) this week and after my bulk I might opt to pick up a erector shirt (http://www.monstermuscle.com/shirts.asp) for squats and deadlifts. I need some advice with this, so if you have any, lay it on me.

Narrow back and 10" arms.

incline alternating dumbbell curls : 45x4:4, x3:3
cybex weird-ass curls : a few reps at some weight

I was so tired going into this that I was surprised I even did as much as I did. The chins weren't bad. The last rep of the last set required a little english, but I got them all. The rows were rough. The last reps didn't go back all the way so I used a slight bit of leverage to finish the motion. It's a PR anyway. The curls...um what happened? I was so fatigued it just didn't happen. I went to the cybex stupid-ass curl thing and struggled a few reps up then left. **** cardio today, it would be torturous. homeboyeee : If you aren't that excited about deadlifting and squatting, you should just quit working out right now!

mik : Yeah the belt is pretty sweet. Hope it does the trick. I wasn't as jittery today as I thought I'd be, which sucks in a way. It's probably because I take in so much friggen coffee. The difference between malto and dextrose is that malto takes an extra step to break down, so it is slightly slower. Dextrose is as simple of a sugar as it gets. Some people mix 50/50 of both so you get a slightly delayed spike from the malto and it lasts longer getting more protein in your muscles. I'd also add a tiny bit of sucrose (table sugar) because it has been shown to increase carbohydrate metabolism when combined with other types of carbs. I use just dextrose/sucrose at the moment (which can be purchased at 1fast400.com very cheap), but I'm going to try surge for a while (it has a blend of glucose/malto) and see if there is much of a difference. Thanks on the chins, eventhough I used to do way more :(

JustinF : Thanks for dropping in!

fuzz : I don't really take all that much. The most pills I take in would be the fish oil caps and I just got my double potency ones, so I can lower my intake on them. I haven't taken the acetyl-l-carnitine in a while because I didn't have a precise enough scale and I'll never be without r-ala or my vitamins. The only things that I'm not too sure about are the l-tyrosine and the taurine. But they were really ****ing cheap, so worth a shot. Nothing I take is even close to usnic acid or dnp, but that being said I'd much sooner take dnp than usnic acid. I've read a lot into it, but the long-term effects are what keeps me from trying it. I'm afraid that when I'm 50 I'll die of something related to the use and I think that's selfish (if I have a family). And since I just started back on ephedra/caffeine...pissing time!

rookie : ****ty taste buds? No way! I used the recommened amount of water at first, but when I drank it it tasted powdery so I added a lil more water. I'll just shake it more vigorously next time.

rg570 : I know I need to stop cutting and believe me I'd love to do so right this minute, but I would much rather do it right than rush a bulk and get stupid fat again and have to cut a lot again next year. I'm still considering my options.

Ok the 300 was way harder this time than in June. I need to do these more often. It was hard to find a difficult and comfortable weight. Next week I'll start with ~275 for the workset. The dumbbell raises were fun. Someday maybe I'll be able to use the big boy weights like Belial(250lbs) and RG570(180lbs) use.

What is your impression of 5x5 so far? It's more of an old-school approach from what I can tell.

cocoa : I have absolutely nothing to say about you finally posting in my journal after many months on hiatus.

squarehead : Damn those unsightly disfigurements!

rg570 : I'm glad that you used loads of apostrophacation. It really shows your grasph of the English language. You're going places, son.

rookie : Don't be sad! I'm still quite mordant, just more esoteric.

mik : Thanks brotha'. I need to keep consistent on my shrugging. My poor traps need it.

scott : I had a friendly mod do a thread merge for me. The 5x5's are seeming to rock for now. I am digging the low-reps as I don't feel so warn out after each set, but the volume increase is allowing my muscles to get worked far better than on my 2 exercise/2 set/6-8 rep scheme. My strength is going up even though I am cutting, but the real test will be when I start bulking (soon).

justinF : Thanks, I enjoy shrugging with a trapbar immensely. If there was ever a reason to start a cult, the trapbar would be it.

JustinF

Two more weeks of this cutting bull**** then I plan on putting on some lean mass! I love lean mass, don't you? I need a ton more. I need to hang around more women so I feel big and strong all the time. Today I'm gonna do a chest workout, but I need to rearrange my schedule soon. I want to do a 4 day split with back, legs, chest, and dead/shoulder. I'm thinking something like the following :

monday: off
tuesday: back/bi
wednesday: leg/ab
thursday: off
friday: chest/tri
saturday: deadlift/traps
sunnday: off

I'm going to keep the back day at work, doing chins and rows and move the rest to home. Try to get that inzer belt and start squatting. Other exercises will include bench press, incline db press, perhaps dips for triceps, then of course do the deads, shrugs, and lateral raises on the weekend. I'll keep with the 5x5 routine for a while and see how it does me. I think this schedule will give me enough space between my deads and legs to be comfortable.

Normal diet again, yay. I got these new razzamataz fancy-ass mega potency fish oil caps of DOOM from kilo sports, that have double the epa/dha per cap (500mg) compared to my old ones. You know what that means? Well do ya? I didn't ****ing think so, chingatarugo. It means I am going to kill you all, slowly, with my insulin sensitivity.

Today was senfrickensational. I almost hit a full 5x5 on the chest press (added 2.5lbs) and my triceps and chest are quite worked! Those cable flyes really really felt good. I was proud to hit the 5x5 on the cable pressdowns with the stack! Again, going to show how weak my chest is in comparison to my triceps, I did the cable flyes wish some pussy weight. I ended off with some cardio while reading Men's Fitness magazine. I am consistently amazed by how ****ing pathetic these magazines are...

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Torpidity and Lethargy
I wanted to go to bed early, but my friends came over to play Soul Calibur II and watch this horrible ****ing movie called "Wasted," which starred the new John Connor from Terminator 3 and some stupid bitch doing heroin. What a ****ing waste of my life that was. Luckily enough, about 3/4 of the way through the DVD froze and I didn't have to see how it ended. I enjoy the ending that I came up with far more : Bitch dies, jock straight-edge asshole gets depressed and starts doing heroin to cope, he dies, world blows up, the end. My girlfriend was in a horrible mood last night, so I tried to have as little bedtime conversation with her as possible and I ended up with 6.5 hours of night-sweaty goodness. Why are women so complex? <insert punchline>

http://www.hollowmedia.com/images/wbbboxes.gif Palaver
So I'm doing my cardio and I bust out a copy of Men's Fitness, which I am now aware is of direct affilliation with weider. On the cover read some eye popping comments on how to get the perfect abs and how to be a sex machine. What red blooded American male wouldn't want these, I mean come on? The first article I bust into was "feeding the machine: a guide to ultimate leanness" where they recommended eating sardines, eggplants, hazelnuts, pomegranites, and lentils. Yum. I guess it's pretty easy to lose fat when you puke after every ****ing thing you eat.

Second came a brilliant article touting that you should "slow it down to build it up." A lovely piece that was espoused to the wonders of SuperSlow training. Magical! Ok, next load of crap. An article telling me that SuperSlow training is...bad...for...me...um, what the ****? So which is it chief? Good thing I read the latter article, else I would've been the next SuperSlow lackey, when all the while it doesn't help me at all! **** YOU **** YOU **** YOU!

Ok, time to relax. I'm working out after all. I open up to the sex page and it teaches me how to talk my girlfriend into doing sexual things she is uncomfortable doing. Well, I can see how unbelievably important that is. Should I fück her SuperSlow or fast and explosive? I guess I may never know.

Finally came the rip-roaring ab-tastic tummy tightening routine! 5 magic exercises that used some weider ab thing. This is the only way to get a 6 pack for summer! Well I guess I gotta run right to my local Weider dealer and pick one of those ****ers up! There is a duality to this situation, as I'm overly elated by the fact that I now possess the secret to the ultimate body, but sad that there is no way in hell for me to achieve it without this machine. Oh, cruel motherfücking fate. Of course the exercises were performed by an extremely average male of 3% bodyfat showing absolutely no sign of drug use...I closed the magazine and continued to listen to the suck-ass music played on the college radio station. It was either that or the TV that gets 3 stations, 2 of them being the news and the other being ESPN. **** I hate my gym. The least you assholes could do is pitch in to buy me an mp3 player.

Mik

Nice chest day mang. Grats on almost getting teh 5x5. Good work on the stack. W00t!

Dude, stop reading Men's fitness and switch to Men's Health. It's the bible for men. Alternatively, Muscular Development is a good read. ;)

On your split I agree with the 4 days. I think a dead/shoulder day makes a lot of sense. I've decided to do a simular one however, I'm switching mine up a bit from that one to ensure there is a break between back and legs.

Nice chest day, dude. full stack on the presses. Soon you'll be like Belial and doing them single handed and impressing all the chicks at the gym.

mik : 5¢ down, $498.94 to go. I think that I'll be able to do back and legs next to each other, but I guess I'll have to see. I've never tried a split like this, so it's all going to be by ear. I'm still considering an HST cycle before this, so I am more periodized.

homeyield : I do want a 5 page dissertation. Have it on my desk by close of business today or you're fired.

wikked : I lurk in yours as well. I don't always have time to post at work, so most of the time I don't. The device is now my secret, which I will share for the price of one iPod.

fuzz : I'll subscribe to that as soon as my subscriptions to Seventeen and Tiger Beat runs out. I am likely going to drop leg press for dumbbell kickbacks, chinups will be replaced by concentration curls, and do arms 3x a week. Sound good?

mestizo : I can see it taught you well, too. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Fatty.

patty : w0rd up!

rookie : First off, I refuse to trade a real car, my GTI, for a barbie car. Second, I can only read what they provide in that ass of a magazine rack. Third, glad you agree. I'd rather have a break between back/deads, but we'll see. Lastly, I am going to start working on one armers this week.

justineff : I hope my schest gets sore today. In fact, I hope I can figure out where my schest is!

to get more mileage out of the 1-handed cable pressdowns, try doing them with a reverse-grip (palm-up). This will decrease your ability to cheat the weight down with a bit of delt and help you focus on your triceps more.

1-handed reverse pushdowns with the stack? That would be truly manly. Although, as mentioned elsewhere, doing any legitimate exercise with the entire stack of plates is a sure recipe for penile hypertrophy

galileo

homeyield : Excellent. My influence shall run as deep as space number 9!

cal : I was doing 2-handed pressdowns with the stack. BELIAL is the one doing one handed full stack pressdowns. I'm merely a weak bastard in comparison. I keep extremely strict form while doing them though, because there is no point in doing them wrong. When I switch to 1-handed next week, I may try the underhand technique. I will be certain not to use more weight than I can handle, so it really doesn't matter.
