Just wondering, why is it recommended to consume the shake within 20mins. Why would it be detrimental if the shake was mixed and refrigerated for hours? The reason for asking is that I consume shakes at work but do not have a blender there. My powder does not mix well unless blended!!

As Belial so brilliantly pointed out, if whey and casein couldn't survive in solution the entire mammalian population of the earth would be in jeopardy.

The only caveat IMO is that it can taste nasty if mixed and left unrefrigerated. This is why god gave man the cooler bag.

I think you mean why is it recommended to drink the shake 20 mins after your workout? I think its because you just worked your muscles and now they need protein to help recover so you give it to them right afterwards. I like to eat carbs <20 mins after and workout too.

No detriment at all if refrigerated, although it will probably settle a bit. You won't lose any nutrients or anything.
