Hypothetical situation:
You work in a retail store that sells printers. On occasion, there will be a really great deal of a printer going on clearance for a low price.
In this case, the printer in question is selling for $399, but you can get it for $360 with your discount.
Now here's the catch. This same printer retails for $999, and regularly sells on Ebay for $699. By selling the particular printer on Ebay for $699 you stand to make $300+ in profits.
Now, do you buy the printer and Ebay it for a quick $300 profit even though it is against company policy?
There is the remote chance that someone finds out (Very unlikely) and you lose your job.
Keep in mind, that's usually more than what you'd make in an entire week, and you do need the money for Christmas.

Have someone else sell it on ebay.

So you would share the profits even though it is highly unlikely that anyone would know?

what he said
Buy it from another branch of your store, and no one will know you.

Chris, you've already demonstrated that the actual issue here is not the fact that you will possibly get fired (as nobody will know), but rather that this action doens't sit well with your morals. It seems like you're just looking for moral affirmation that selling this printer is acceptable behavior. Don't kid yourself by claiming that it's an issue of getting fired.

I'd have a buddy sell it for me

Sell it on ebay, or get someone else to sell it on Ebay.

Hahaha...
You may be right.
Maybe I'm just a puss when it comes to things like this. I've settled on the issue anyways. I'll do it since I'd like an extra $300 in my pocket around X-Mas.

Its up to you. I don't see the problem with it at all.
You could be fired, but how would they ever find out that it was you who purchased that printer? If your going to send a receipt then don't buy using your discount so they cant track it back to you. The extra $40 makes is worth that security blanket.
Wrong is wrong and money isn't that important

The solution is to slap your manager in the face and ask them why your retail chain isn't simply selling them on ebay.

Everybody has a seller ID for Ebay. If your work/company knows your seller ID, you have more problems than mentioned on here.
Sell the printer on Ebay.

I would buy as many as they let you and sell them all on ebay ASAP. There is NOT ONE REASON not to. You already said that's more than you'd make in a week. You're not going to get caught unless you brag about it. Your company is still making money on your purchase, and you're making money on your investment. It's not like you're stealing these printers, so your company could give 2 shts what happens after they're out of your posession. Buy them and I'll sell them and we'll split the profits!

It's obviously not a career... What are they going to fire you for? Purchasing a product from them and turning a profit that they didn't know was there? You're doing nothing wrong at all. They have no grounds to fire you. Again, buy as many as you're allowed and sell them. It's a win - win situation.

I would buy 1 and sell 1. It's a printer that you could have used, decided not to, and sold it. I would have my bro sell it though, after I "gave it" to him as a gift ;)
The question I have is-
What store is having this great sale???
