Hey guys! I'm 18 and mainly focusing on losing weight but just want to know if supplements would be important at my age? So far I just drink protein shakes and exercises are weights/cardio. Thanks!

A multi vitamin would be a good idea. Fish oil wouldn't hurt either. Beyond that, I don't think so

Don't take flax. Just take fish oil if you're going to go that route.

I'm 18 and mainly focusing on losing weight but just want to know if supplements would be important at my ageYou don't need supplements...ever. If you want, I'd just suggest an all-natural multivitamin if your diet is not sufficient enough in vitamins/minerals...things like that.

What do you mean by 'all natural' multivitamin, scarz?

I mean one that doesn't have a toxic coating and filled with preservatives and all that fun stuff.

Centrum Multivitamin is what I have, have you heard of it? It may only be in Australia :) How many of them and fish oil caps should I take?

Yes...Centrum is one of the worst multi's you can buy. And it's sold in America too. That's one of the multi's that has a horrible coating.

The link in my post above will tell you about the fish oil.

What's a good multi then?

My doctor told me recently that the best multivitamin is the cheapest one on the shelf. Now he was not being literal but his point was that you don't have to overspend to get a quality multi.

Look for “USP” on the label. This means the product meets the standards of the U.S. Pharmacopeia, including one for disintegration, and has been tested under controlled laboratory conditions. Most brand-name vitamins aren’t labeled USP, because the manufacturers either don’t want to do the tests, or prefer to guarantee the products via the brand names. Generic or store brands are more often labeled USP, and are cheaper. More than 100% of the Daily Value isn’t necessarily better.

Why do you think that about Centrum? The only bad thing I heard about Centrum is that it is higher in Iron than some other multi's and in men that can be a problem. But for women, who can lose alot of iron monthly, it is beneficial.

Why do you think that about Centrum?Because that's what research has shown. It is one of the lower rated multi's out there and I would stay away from it. It's not about the iron content.

Now he was not being literal but his point was that you don't have to overspend to get a quality multi.Doesn't matter what your doctor said. You don't want a multi with a crap coating and/or with vitamins/minerals that don't absorb very well. Whether a natural multi is cheap or costs a little more, it is still worth it considering you're going to be shoving it down your face every day. Might as well get something you know is safe. Your doctor is right about not having to have the most expensive multi out there, but if you're going to be using something for a very long time, it's best to do some research on that product.

The coating and the low absorbency.
