ive been deadlifting for over 2 years now and never had a problem

about 2 months ago i started the 'baby got back' routine and have been doing high weight/low reps without a problem

today i went to Ballys and started of with deads
i do my first set, warm up with 225- no problems

second set i go up to 275, all was going well until my last rep i felt a snap in my hamstring

my form looked PERFECT, i was really confused why this happened.
there was no initial pain and it took about 10 minutes for my hamstring to start hurting

i limp when i walk now and have a hard time bending over... my hamstring also has moderate pain all the time

so my questions are:
1.did i pull my hamstring or is it something else?
2. how should i treat this
3. what can i do to prevent this from happening again

Well, a snap in your hamstring can't be good. I'd go straight to the doctor if I were you. I've had cramping in my hamstrings, strained hamstrings, sore hamstrings, stiff hamstrings, but I've never had a snap. I have no clue what it could be. All I say is seek medical help ASAP.

Go to the doctor. No person in their right mind would tell you what to do over the internet.

Except for maybe a doctor

I don't get how you felt a snap but had no intitial pain. Usually pain accompanies a "snap".

I'm usually not a type that runs off to the doctor the instant something like that happens. Assuming it's not a rediculous debilitating pain I would wait for a few days to a week and if it didn't improve then I would go.

1.) I have no idea.
2.) If there's no swelling use heat. Other than that just rest it.
3.) If your form was "perfect" then there's probably nothing you could have or can do. Sometimes things happen.

I have had all kinds of muscle injuries in my time lifting. The only time I had to seek medical attention was for a lower back displacement.

Again, all this is assuming it's not really really painfull.

Maybe you had a joint pop or something, like in the lift a tendon rolled over the bone.

Give it 3 days with normal treatments(heat/stretching) and if it continues take the next step.

A doctor would have to be absolutely insane to give advice to strangers over the internet.

Injuries are part of the game. Get it addressed and give it time to heal up. Your lifts will drop a bit, but you'll make it up fast. Good Luck.

If it actually "snapped" I would go to the doc ASAP, although I agree that it could have just been a tendon rolling over the bone.

I've had quite a few lower back/hamstring issues over the past couple of years. Some have been nuisances and others have been serious. If it's serious at all, you really should see a MD.

*Ice
*See a doctor
*VERY lightly stretch and massage the area and stop if there is any pain

Any and all rehab options should be cleared w. a doc before you make things worse.

went to the doc today, he thinks it could have been a mild tear... thanks for all the tips
