View Full Version : Snoring Roommate

I just woke up from another night of sleep butchered by my roommate's hellish snoring. He is a nice guy and we get along great in everything, except when he drinks, which he does four nights a week at least, he snores horribly. Now I'm not talking about normal snoring; him being fat combined with the heavy drinking/pot smoking/other drugs he uses causes every breath to sound like a 300 pound woman ripping ass. I have earplugs that lower noise 29 decibels but they help very little as the snoring is so loud that the room vibrates slightly and I hear them fully, just muffled. This typically wakes me up anywhere from 3 AM to 7 AM, and continues the entire night. My solution to this thus far has been to wake him by striking him with various objects and then going to sleep again in the moments that he snarfles awake. Most things do not wake him ifrom the passed out state so I typically end up cracking his feet with a belt buckle. This is only a momentary soluation since after he wakes and I fall asleep (if I'm lucky), he goes right back to sleep with the reverberating snoring, waking me up again, and the cycle repeats until I have to go to class. He doesn't realize I hit him with stuff because hes too passed out to remember or care.

So, has anyone resolved a situation such as this before? Mentioning it to him would be worthless. The only way he could fix it would be to stop drinking, and he is a true alcoholic so that's not happening. Any better methods for noise reduction? Any ideas would be awesome.

I think there's a surgery for that. Maybe you could perform it on him while he's passed out.

Better earplugs?

Or get those headphones that cancel noise.. might be uncomfortable but no more so than waking up 20 times a night.

Better yet, earplugs with the noise cancellers over them. Though you may miss your alarm in the morning.

Being able to hear isn't an issue, I use my phone as alarm on vibrate in pillow. Where could one acquire the better/larger earplugs? 29 decibels, the ones I have, were the highest I could find at the pharmacy I went to.

Are you talking about a dorm roomate living in the same room as you?

Noise dampening headphones placed over your earplug and sleep on your back? A sock for his mouth?

I have the same problem in my dorm. Put stuff by your bed so if he wakes you up you can throw something at him. Works for me.

My last roommate had a terrible terrible snoring problem. I solved it by forcing water into his lungs while he was sleeping. He's now in the hospital recovering while I have the whole room to myself!

You should try it, they won't figure you out, they'll just think he has a bronchitas. Worked for me anyways.

The secret is that you fill up a waterbottle with lukewarm water, then you sneak up on him while he's in a deep, deep sleep. Wait until he goes into his snoring convulsions, then stick the water bottle nozzle into his nostril and squeeze right when he is about to snore. My roommate slept right through it! I got like 5 good squirts in there before I decided it was enough. The result is a good amount of liquid going into the persons lung which requires a lengthy hospital stay for dianosis and treatment.

Make sure that you call campus safety right after you do it and tell them that your roommate seems to be having trouble breathing in his sleep, you don't want him to die or anything.

My favorite was "striking him with various objects" - lol, who says they strike their roommate?
