I was reading a book about boxing and it said to drink 16oz of water every hour you are awake. Wouldnt that flush out all the vitamins? what would be a good amount of water for a amateur boxer/football playr to drink a day?

As long as you spread your water intake out over the course of each day. Water soluble vitamins get flushed out way more often than fat soluble vitamins. I wouldn't worry about it.

Dude, that's 288 ounces of water. That's over 2 gallons of water per day. That's insane. Just aim for a gallon or more and spread it out.

Ok. thanks for the link and all the help I really appreciate it. I am going to try and drink a little over 1 gallon mainly because I already do drink about a gallon a day.

Generally this is an area where I believe we should use common sense. I would say 1 gallon a day is great to aim for. However, some days you may only take in 1/2 and others maybe 1 and 1/2. Let the body decide some of this. There is no sense of being bloated because you are trying to down a crapload of water. I tried that, it sucks. Water isn't a miracle supplement like some say it is. Meaning, some people believe that if they force more water down then they will lose fat faster... That is really only possible if you were drinking absolutely no water before... Everything in moderation (well, not everything, but most everything)

a gallon a day?...is that plain water ontop of everything else you drink? or what if you drank half a gallon of water and half of milk?

or what if you drank half a gallon of water and half of milk? That would go towards your fluid intake for the day, and considering that milk is 80-85% water, that should be fine.

as long as you aim for more or less a gallon a day i wouldn't worry about it. don't sweat the small things.
