I have been reading this forum for a few months gaining knowledge and I finally thought that I should begin a journal because I think it will be a great motivator. I am 20 years old and am in college. I am 6'2' and currently weigh 187 lbs. I started getting serious into lifting in September 2006. Before that I was always very skinny and am still skinny, but nothing like I was before. Just a year ago I was at the same height and weighed just 150lbs. In September I began doing WBB1. It was a great routine and really got me used to lifting and introduced me to some of the lifts. I stuck with that until the semester just ended a little before Christmas. I asked for a weight bench and set for Christmas and got one that also allows me to squat. Since my return home for the winter break I switched to Bill Starr's 5x5 program because I was plateauing in some of the areas while doing WBB1. Starr's program has been going really well for me so far. I have been making decent gains and have also gained about 8 pounds bringing me to my current weight of 187. I am going to continue doing Starr's program for the next couple weeks, then I plan on switching to either BGB or a compilation of a few other routines based on what I have been reading in magazines and mainly on this forum. My diet consists right now of just eating everything in my path. I don't know what weight I should really be at before I started to concert on a more intricate diet. I am open to any suggestions and ideas dealing with my diet and my workout because I am new to all of this. Thanks in advance.

Good luck with the routine. I also just started the 5 x 5 and really enjoy it. Just curious, why do you plan on switching it up in a few more weeks? As far as a diet goes, use the mirror as your gauge. If you think you should drop some weight, go for it. Otherwise, I would just keep trying to add weight. That is assuming your goal is to get bigger and stronger.

Yeah, my goal is to add size and strength. I was going to try something new once I got back to school. I was going to use Starr's program as just a transitioning workout. But my mind is not completely made up on that yet though. I may stick with it, or switch to something different.

My advice on that, if you are making gains that you think are good, stick with it. No point in changing something if it is working and you are happy with the results. With that being said, if you think another program would work better, try it. You can always go back to 5 x 5 later on.

I think that you jsut made up my mind and I am going to stick with Starr until I start to see plateaus. Thanks

Nice workout. Any PR's? I hope I didn't discourage you, just offering some advice.

I've never found my max's in anything. 165 for 3 reps is my PR so far though. I was really pumped after today's workout.

1/17

Today was a rough day. I am feeling under the weather. Just felt like crap all day long. Good thing that today is my rest day and am hoping to feel better by tomorrow. However today I did try to do a few crunches and push ups.

4 x 10 pushups
2 x 25 crunches

It has been a while since I have done any sort of ab workout. I am going to try to incorporate some ab work though. I thought that 2 sets of 25 crunches was a good start.

My numbers went down a little, but I had about a week off due to sickness and getting ready to go back to school. I am back on track now so my numbers should get back to normal.
