I understand that a good starting place for adjusting protein intake is ~1gram/lb of body weight. But what if I'm still a tad porky? My understanding is that the protein intake (for our purposes) is to facilitate the maintenance, repair, and growth of lean muscle mass. So I would essentially be calculating my protein intake to support my fat ass as well as my muscle mass. Is that a waste or not?

It's 1 gram per pound of LBM, not body weight. And I have forgotten how to do the calculations to figure this out. Can someone clarify? :bang:
You're only calculating for your muscle mass, not your "fat ass", lol. Don't be so hard on yourself. :)

Total Mass - bodyfat = LBM
100lb athlete at 10% has 90lbs of LBM.
I personally would calculate this as 100 X 0.9 = LBM

It doesn't matter if you eat more than 1 g / lb LBM. For simplicity, I would suggest just eating 1 g / lb bodyweight.
