new to this, tried my first lat spread pic. can i get some critique, i know to press my thumbs in but it still feels kind of awkward.

It takes practice.
Now do the exact same thing. But take your arms (elbows pointing out like in the picture) and pretend you are hugging a tree with them. Try to wrap your elbows around the imaginary "tree" and that should come up with a better lat spreed.
It takes practice but it will come.

Hug with your shoulders. Elbows should be pointing out some to help flare your lats. I find it's easier to make fists and push on the love handle area.

Notice how his elbows don't go in too far.

stand straight or lean back a little. Don't hunch your shoulders, bring them back.
