Freakin' Insane..
Magnus had a bad strongman yr b/c of back problems... so he is rehabbing it will 100 rep DLs.. and not light.. 100 reps x 200kg (440lbs)..

Speaking of how frustrating it was last year, Magnus said, “I was in the shape of my life . . . except for one tiny problem . . . my back.”

While awaiting the doctor’s verdict, Magnus is doing plenty of rehab work, including 100-rep deadlifts. Magnus said that he began with 100 kg for 100 reps in the deadlift, gradually increased the weight, and now he is doing 200 kg for 100 reps.

He’s always been a big bench presser, so it was natural for IronMind to ask Magnus if he was still benching in the 270-kg range.

“It’s more like 300,” he said, and this is from a man who doesn’t even own a bench shirt.

And if you want to know just how much Magnus is talking about, here are some numbers.

“Deadlifted 300 kg for 5 reps,” Magnus said, “followed by 3 sets of five with 270 a few days ago. It felt great and I had no pain the day after.” And if you read IronMind’s story about Magnus’s high-rep deadlift training, here’s the next installment.

”Next up is to try to pull 250 kg for 100 reps with in 35 minutes. The goal is to pull 330x5 fast and easy within a few weeks,” Magnus said.

And don’t think the man known for having the World’s Strongest Arms - a mighty bench presser and a man who clicks the No. 3 Captains of Crush gripper as if it’s a plastic castanet - has been sloughing off when it comes to the rest of his training.

”My upper body training is responding well to the hard treatment I’m giving it,” Magnus said, and considering some of his PRs, Magnus must be hitting some stratospheric heights.

And the bottom line for The Big Swede? “It feels like there finally is some light in the dark tunnel of injuries that I have been fighting for some time now. I’m enjoying myself!”

I did 365x20 a while back and thought I was going to puke all over the place! That's crazy.

Sounds like Magnuss is going to be back in the WSM mix very soon. I hope Phil can hold him off and defend his Championship, though. It's going to be tough because guys like Mariusz, Magnuss, and others are going to be gunning for him now.

we'd also have guys hurting themselves...
no safety in DLs like Squats.. :(
usually there's just bad form, then a bad rep, then pop goes the back.. ouch.

Very true. I pretty much never recommend high rep deadlifts.

Do as I say, not as I do!

so whos up for a 225 for reps deadlift contest? :)I could see maybe something heavier for reps, like 365 or 405, but anything as light as 225 is asking for trouble. I've found that it's when picking up a weight very quickly that strain is most likely to occur. When it's really light, people are less apt to concentrate on form.

maybe 315?

not many here can do 365 for a lot of reps...maybe 335 would be a good number.

That's ****ing crazy.

Samuelsson was always one of my favorites. Part of that, of course, is the amusement of watching his wife, who must be all of 5'6'' and 140 lbs screaming at him during the competitions (plus the fact I can understand it). Those Swedish girls are a breed apart. I miss them.

thanks just rediculous..deadlift is not even a good lift for him! hes too tall

magnus is my all time fav strongman, hes probably gave more to the sport than anybody else, hes been one of the strongest guys in the world for many, many years

an injury free magnus could possibly beat anyone on the planet, but i dont know if thats gonna happen - hes certainly very strong in the gym though, awesome in worlds strongest arms, not just a 270kg double on the bench, but he also does close grip after an i think it was 190kg an he did 6 or 8, each one looking stupid easy, nowhere near failure, he was toying with it

p.s thats the #4 gripper, not #3
