I am 5'8" and 145 lbs and I am trying to consume 3500 calories a day. Should this make me hit around 3 lbs a week?

Depends on your maintenance level. Everyone is different.
Why do you want to gain 3 lbs / week? That wil likely result in a lot of fat gain...

Bulking.

I understand that, but you could substantially reduce the amount of fat you gain by shooting for 1-2 lbs / week.
Either way, my original point stands:)

I try for 1 pound a week. I'd be a fatty if I was trying for 3 pounds a week.

When I was 140 and 5'11 I gained to 165 in a month and a bit with little fat gain at all.

If your under weight to being with, its perfectly fine. After 165 I noticed that I would gain more fat for every bit of muscle I got.

What do you think my BF% is? I am thinking around 23% or so....

As you can see, I have a nice little gut. It's the nastiest thing ever. I can feel
it hanging when I sit down.

jesus christ :strong:

but yeah, 3500 calories a day will probably be a good amount to bulk with, at least it would be for most people. the pounds will come, just keep at it.

edit: you're definitely below 23% dude. I'd guess..oh I dunno, 17% or so. It's hard to tell.

It's sad to see myself like this. I actually first started weightlifting over a year ago and I quit when I got a job that required me to move away from home. The place had a gym, but I like working out by myself. So since I had that problem, I quit. Everyone around me noticed how good I looked and now I look like crap. I am glad I am back at it again. I am trying out the WBB 1.

If I were you, I wouldn't be as concerned with your body fat percentage as with the white cancer that's eating your face up.

I would say around 17% not because your fat but because you have very little muscle. One things forsure, when you do gain muscle it seems that youll have quite a bit of chest development. Lucky bastard

And NHLfan dont be suprised, 15 pounds didnt do much to my frame. the jump from 165-180 has been much more apparent than 140-165.

What makes you think that about my chest?

3 pounds is a lot per week.. like everybody else said. To make sure your actually gaining mass you'd wanna shoot for a pound a week 2 at the max

unless you were assisted, then 3lbs a week would be welcomed. I would aim for 1 to 1.5 lbs a week, it might take longer but you minimize fat gains that way.

haha ok then, to the OP sorry if you somehow find my comment offensive. Hopefully you can see it for the joke it is. Although I'm not sure how anybody could take that comment seriously, thanks for showing me that its possible scarz. lol

Are you serious? You know he was referring to the white ink editing out the face, right? I don't understand how people can take offense to things like that.

Yeah. I don't think people realize just how slowly skeletal muscle is synthesized. Even if heavily assisted, most people would be VERY lucky to gain anywhere near a pound of muscle a week. Naturally... maybe half a pound. At best.

For a relative newbie.

I wouldn't try for 3 pounds a week. The most I've seen in a "scientifically" controlled setting is 2/3 lb of muscle per week (without drugs) for any amount of time, though I've known people who've been able to gain closer to a pound of muscle per week for short periods. I've done that a few times in the past myself (but such gains don't last).

I'd try for 1 to 1.5 pounds a week. You don't have the thick, mesomorphic frame (or drugs) that would allow for more. If you go for 3 pounds a week you'll get fat and regret it later.
