Im 23 years old male and I am in the miltary overseas. I am 5'10", 160 lbs, I have worked out occassionaly before but I was never able to weigh more then 145 in my life until these last 6 months. My diet hasnt changed much but I am looking to get back into the weigthlifting scene. I am currently forced to be away from my wife and will not be able to see her for about 4 months. My true goal is to bulk up a bit and then get cut before I see her again and surprise her. I have no interest in getting bodybuilding big or anything like that. Im not too knowledgeable about supplements and really dont know too much about lifting itself. If there are any specific techniques that I should use to build up my upper body feel free to share. I run pretty frequently so my lower body isnt a big deal. I have just always been pretty scrawny in life and I am looking to go back home lookin like a new person. So any advice anyone may have to help me along would be great, thanks.

u cant bulk n cut in 4 months lol.... just concentrate on a bulk...eat lift big..rest..supplement wise if you find it hard to get all the portien u need get some whey protein and the rest doesnt matter squats deadlifts and whey is the key gd luck

Well I realize Im not gonna get huge in four months by any means, but Im also not really lookin to put on more than 10 or 15 pounds from what I have now.

If you put on a bit over a half lbs per week, and keep your calories clean, you should net some very good results, and put on the desired range of weight you lifted. Just stick with basic compound lifts (SQ,BP,DL). Throw some chinups in there and some overhead work, and you'll be set. The WBB #1 Routine seems to have netted people some good results, and if you aren't planning on competing or specifiying in PLing or anything along those lines, I wouldn't bother doing a specialized split like Westside or anything.

Its been almost a month and I have been eating soooo much at least 4k a day. Mainly chicken, tuna, and steaks. Lots of veggies to go with and usually oatmeal and waffles for breakfast. Fruit throughout the day and 3 protien shakes a day. I get in the gym 5 days a week and have been hitting it hard. I have managed to gain almost 7 pounds, thats crazy to me, I've never been able to gain weight before. All Im taking is a whey protien and creatine monohydrate after each workout. I can definetly feel like i'm getting bigger, especially in my shoulders and triceps. I have included some updated pics, so feel free to critique. :burger: :strong:

keep up the eating man, thats good that youre commited, the lighting is better in your new set of pics..but to be honest i dont see much other change, although your chest does appear better.
You should wait a bit longer to see significant results, but definitley a great start.
Do you have any legs?
EDIT: or a back?

ahhh i c gd improvements! ur commited gr8, keep up on the big 3 and eat big and sleep big and just watch ur body transform

Good job keep bustin your bum and make sure you do enough squats and deadlifts. Try not to do too much running.

I've been tryin really hard to keep it up, but due to a busy schedule and temtaion of laziness its been hard to get in the gym everyday. But I do, and keep eating away, I've combined some starting pics with 6 weeks in and Im very pleased with the progress. I've put on 12 pounds in 6 weeks and the upper body is really starting to come around. These pics really make me just wanna get in the gym more so I can reach my goal. Here are the comparison pics through six weeks.

9 weeks and still goin strong. Eating like a mad man until it hurts...lol All good foods, steak, lots of chicken and tuna, lots of veggies. I've completely cut down on all sodas and sugars all together really. I hit a plateau size wise and felt like I wasnt getting any bigger, but then a friend of mine pointed out that I hadnt added much weight to my routine since Ive began, and that my body probably just got used to liftin that weight and wasnt bein worked as hard anymore. Which makes alot of sense, gotta lift BIG to get BIG right. I maxed out the last week and threw up 225 5x. This was my initial goal and I feel that I have met it way too easy. I am now gonna challenge myself to max 275 and while maintaining my body wait of 175. This has been the most uplifting self esteem thing I have ever done for myself. For the first time in my life I can feel my chest when I run, I fill out my sleeves in my shirts....its just awesome, Ive always been a really small guy. I think I am most surprised at how easy it was. Its only been 9 weeks and I have gained 15 more pounds while trimming my body fat percentage from 21 to 15%.
Tell me if you agree.....

looks like a nice little bulk, shaving the chest may have helped too :thumbup:

you can notice your lats from the front, which is a great sign of improvement :)

Thanx for all the comments. And as for where im stationed, that would be Japan, near Tokyo. I have noticed that I was kinda neglecting my back as part of my workout and have since started working it out hard. Hopin that will give me more of the "V" shape that Im lookin for. Also should I really about my abs while Im bulking or just wait for when I start to cut? Im about 178 now and hope to reach 185+ before I cut.outnumber

Work them now. You want to build up the muscle so you have something to show when you cut away the fat.

Is that the same person? Seriously dude, you look like one of those guys on the fitness commercials that have unrealistic gains. 9 weeks? I am jealous man. Keep up w/e your doing thats for sure.

Fantastic progress on the chest, just make sure to hit the back and legs just as hard. Your legs are probably great in terms of endurance but it never hurts to bulk them up a little ya know?
