From the article:

Fortunately, nature has given us a handy rule of thumb. Many of the very chemicals that make foods good for us are the ones that give them color, turning blueberries blue, spinach green and carrots deep orange. For optimum health, scientists say, eat a rainbow of colors. Your plate should look like a box of Crayolas.

Does anybody else find this to be one of the silliest things ever written about nutrition?

Somebody pass the Amanita muscaria mushrooms?

True dat. I hate rainbows, man. I lived in the city of the hideous rainbow for three years and got nothing but scorn and sorrow from the experience (San Francisco).

Rainbows=lose

food rainbow = rediculous

/me eats more tuna

BOOYA I went to Chilis tonight and ate a tuna steak. Big surprise, right?

So if I eat a Chinese baby, a Mexican baby, an African baby, and a German baby, is that considered a wide chromatic variety of food?

don't eat da babeh!

anyhoo...actually i see the point of having different colors on your plate. I mean the point is to get as much natural variety as possible so that you consume a wide spectrum of phytonutrients, which are great for general health. lycopenes, carotenoids, etc, etc. all healthy antioxidants. and variety is the spice of life. that's what i try to do with my last meal of the day. (salad) i try to get as much variety as possible in for that meal.
