View Full Version : 5'1" 270 - Bulk or Cut???

Long story short, I went from 6'0" 200 to just over 270 in a matter of two years. One day after looking in the mirror just got disgusted and decided to never let this happen again. Now on a massive cut that so far has dropped me to 250.

*Edit* Ill post my macros for each day too. Today happened to be 210/103/48

Monday 2/12/07:

Diet was great. Plenty of protein and not too many carbs. Kept the calories to about 1700. Drank a lot of water.

Gym:

Started a new program with more volume

Flat Bench: 4 sets 8 reps with 95. Wasn't a lot of weight but not used to lots of volume, and was kinda tired, not necesarily out of strength. Last set I added 10 lbs.

Curls: 4 sets 8 reps with 55. Same Story here. Was really easy at first, but last 10 or so reps were brutal. Felt really really good after though.

After the lifting did some jogging for about 15 minutes. Tomorrow is leg day so don't want to run intervals tonight and be too tired for tomorrow.

That's a tough call, I'm leaning towards a bulk, but it seems you have your mind made up.

Could you just keep your protein high to 1g lb and eat only good clean carbs. Try not to think of bulking or cuttin,just eat good for now and train hard.

Tuesday 2/13/07

Diet went really well today again. I ended with 1595 Calories, with a 208/97/43 breakdown. Felt good throughtout the day and had lots of energy in the gym.

Gym:

Squats:

3 x 8 160
1 x 8 135

Last set on these was really hard. I was doing 20 rep squats the past few weeks, going into the transition, i was really tired. I didn't feel really weak, just like i had no more energy.

Lying leg curls:

4 x 8 60

These were really easy. Going to do 10 or 20 more pounds next week.

Woah man thats quite a small number of calories. I'd say keep cutting but you can certainly stand to up the calories a little bit.

The only reason I'm eating like that is I don't want to "feed the fat". I figured my lbm is somewhere around 190 so that's why I've been eating a bit less. If I ever feel tired or out of energy I'll definately eat more, but for now i think its working for me.

Last set on these was mega hard. Thinking next week still up weight a little, but my shoulders really got worked.

Abs:

1 x 10 Crunches
1 x 5 Crunches


Jogged/Walked a mile , 14 minutes

Rest day. Diet was probably somewhere around 2600 Calories. Not sure the macronutrient breakdown. I have one meal a week where I go out with my wife and/or friends as sort of a cheat meal. Today was that but still didn't do to bad overall.

I think you're doing the right thing. 5ft 1, 270 is just massive. It's for the benefit of your health that you cut. If you're just starting out you might even gain some muscle anyway!

Rest day. Diet was 770 + mexican food for dinner. Going to guess it was about 2000 calories. So for my refeed still not too bad of a day. The 700 calories I ate were almost all protein, so overall good day.

Just an update for any lurkers or anyone who is wondering how its going. When I first started up I was flirting with 280. Tonight at the gym I weighed in at 236. So dropping the weight off at a pretty good pace, and since I'm newer to lifting (less than a year), i'm still seeing gains even though I'm eating the same maintenance calories as my 94 yr old grandma.

Now just got to keep up the pace.

My back has never been sore like this before so liking the change of pace. Never had a naturally defined back so hoping this will help me start to see some noticeable gains.
