View Full Version : Crossfit kicked my ass...

So the other day I started my new training program, which is Crossfit. I did the WOD which was the "Crossfit Total" (Shoulder Press, Deads, Squat). I took it easy since it was my first day and ended up with 155, 365, and 315. Not too bad I guess. I took a day off since my quads were screaming the next day.

So today I look up what I am gonna do next (should have been Run 800m x3, but I didn't have access to my gym today) and it is workout "Barbara". This consists of 5 rounds of 20 pull-ups, 30 push-ups, 40 sit-ups and 50 air squats for time. I figured "pfft, easy enough!"... Oh boy was I wrong. I got to the third round and in the middle of my sit-ups... BARF!!! All over my legs >_< After I got myself cleaned up I tried to continue with it but I was for the most part dead. I called my time after I threw up and I got to that point in about 18 minutes (counting the 3 minutes of rest called for in between rounds).

I think I am gonna start a Crossfit Journal to track my ****.

Anyone else using Crossfit?

PS: Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I didn't know where else it would be appropriate.

Moved to the GPP Forum ... this is where most of the Crossfit talk goes.

And welcome to the club. HAHA!

Oh, my bad... I apologize. Shoulda done a search first.

Is it bad that I wasn't able to finish the workout?

I didn't know air squats could make my quads feel so badass!

I've never done crossfit style training, but from what I hear, it's supposed to be so tough that you can't just jump into it right away and be awesome at it. It takes time to be able to do these things well and it takes more time to be able to do them fast. So no, I don't think it's bad that you weren't able to finish your second ever crossfit workout. Good luck man, crossfit's tough stuff.

No problem!

Most people scale the workout to their ability. I wouldn't say it's bad you didn't finish, but now that you know it's not as easy as it looks/sounds, just pace yourself and focus on completion before upping the intensity.

Crossfit rocks! I thought I was in exceptional shape, and I am in damn good shape, but you have to really be tough/conditioned to jump right into crossfit. Dont' worry about not finishing at first, you'll get your conditioning quickly, but it'll hurt. Relish your days off, and I'm glad most of the WODs only take 20 minutes or less. My fiance has been doing it with me for a few months now, and she loves it. Her birthday (30!, I'm 37) was last week, and we went out to celebrate. After a few drinks, she wound up starting an arm wrestling competition in the bar (since the NE was snowed in, nobody was going to work). She beat two MEN at arm wrestling. She attributed it to all the pullups and cleans doing crossfit. Crossfit will definitely make you tough. Since doing Crossfit, my knees don't bother me, and I feel better than I have after lifting (bodybuilder style) for almost 20 years.

go here (http://forum.brandxmartialarts.com/viewforum.php?f=16)for scaled WOD's every day. i have noticed a big difference in myself since starting crossfit at new year's. no more back pain, hip pain, better conditioning, stronger, and i look better. i'm loving it. the only part i don't like are the oly lifts cause i suck so bad at all of them, but i'm learning. i'm going for barbara-lite in the morning, hopefully i won't puke all over myself!!

"sucking"=weaknesses. You'll notice you get better fairly quickly. You'll also notice your forearms getting larger/stronger, and a better grip from cleans, snatches, etc. You'll get sore in wierd places (weak places getting stronger). Crossfit is purely functional, and as you get better at it, you're getting functionally stronger. My fiance has a rental house, and we put in a basement access door by ourselves. Hand digging with pick and shovel, we came to massive shale deposits. Some bodybuilder lifting friends working with us, who know I do crossfit, were amazed when I tossed a piece of shale over 200lbs over a 5' tall fence (I'm only 5'6"). They had trouble picking it up, and they outweigh me by 50lbs (I'm sure if it was a barbell they could grip/lift it, but after lifting it, they couldn't do anything with it). They also got winded more often, and had to take more frequent breaks. Crossfit will get that conditioning up, and your tolerance for epinephrine/norepinephrine goes up. You can push it, harder and longer (that sounds pornographic).

Thanks for the positive replies! :p

I will definatly work on getting the WOD's done and not underestimate them. I am getting pretty pumped up waiting to do today's WOD. I'm gonna take it a bit easy though since my quads and lats are pretty sore from that b*tch "Barbara"! :D

Thanks again!

*Goes to bust out some ME deads...*

Does anyone have a quick list of all the "named" Crossfit workouts [Barbara, Chelsea, etc.]?

Going through the monthly archives on crossfit.com I have to search them out one at a time. I'd like to have them all conveniently on one piece of paper I could take to my garage gym wall.

Thanks.
