Both are good for you... but are much different...
If you are constipated.. take a spoonful or 2 of Cod Liver oil before going to sleep.. you will wake up refreshed in the morning... lol

i think but not positive, cod liver oil is a source of fat soluble A and D, but doesnt have as many omega 3 as fish oil.

You'd need a take a lot of cod liver oil to overdose on vit A. The real problem is vit D, if it's combined with sun exposure, you can reach toxic levels of it pretty easily.
A very good option is to take cod liver oil in the winter and fish oil in the summer. Cod liver oil is less concentrated in omega 3 and some brands won't even list the omega 3 content, but it is also a lot cheaper. If you buy it in capsules, make sure it is truly cod liver oil, and not soybean oil or something like that with the extracted vitamins.
Vitamins A and D have many benefits for bodybuilders and are commonly lacking, especially with all the stupid animal food fear. Many people just don't convert beta-carotene to vitamin A sufficiently (especially if the diet is low in fat) and the only vitamin D they get is in small amounts from its synthetic form added to milk (in the winter).

I would stay away from the Cod Liver oil. Anything from an animals liver is high in vitamins that can easily lead to toxicity in the body.

get fish oil
and make sure its enterically coated.
you dont typically need extra vitamin A, pretty much everything is fortified with it.
