15 years ago I had a severe spinal condition. My back muscles were cut off my spine, my spine was fused with bone grafts and bars, and my muscles reattached. I cannot bend/flex my torso, but I can bend my lower lumbar region.

I have largely become 'robotic' in my movements. Now I'd like to increase my flexibility, balance, and core strength.

I'd also like to GET OUTSIDE to do it, too, if possible. Spring is nearly here, and I'd like some fresh air.

Any recommendations?

Athletic Body in Balance by Gray Cook might be good for you. I'll look through my copy tomorrow and post back tomorrow night.

I also have Magnificent Mobility by Mike Robertson and Eric Cressey and The Inside-Out Upper Body Warm-Up by Mike Robertson and Bill Hartman. I really like both of those. They are more of warm-ups for lifting but they help increase mobility and promote correct posture which woud be important for you.

Have you considered or would you be able to do any yoga?

I've done yoga for a semester and it definitely helps improve flexibility and balance. It was pretty fun and relaxed.

Yeah yoga would be good. Maybe pilates too. Athletic body in balance is more for athletes, but I'm sure you would learn something that would help you from it.
