Home Made Dip Belt

So after struggling with keeping 65lb dumbells between my legs, I finally decided to look around my house and make a dip belt. I thought of mabye buying one but in stores they are around $50 so I said screw that.

I looked around in my basement for something that would work as a belt. I found an old golf bag that had a padded strap. I took that off and headed over to Canadian Tire. I picked up a 5 foot chain for $7.45 (rated at 560lbs) and 2 carabiners rated at 352lbs. I attached one to each side of the belt padding and then hooked one end of the chain to the hook on the right and looped it through the left one (I actually hooked it in chain for more comfort) and then through the weight and up to the hook on the right again.

As you can see, if you just look around and dont mind having equipment that isn't what the queen would use, you can make something that will work just as good as something that costs $50, for $15.

I made my own. It's just a steel cable (the type that is used in cable weight machines), which I fashioned eye-hooks on both ends, sorta like this:
(not coiled, obviously, and I made my own ends)

Then I just used the J hook thinger on one end to fasten it to metal part of my belt, loop it through the plate(s) and fasten the other end into that j-hook.

Not trying to jack the thread, just a quick question about dip belts...

Anyone ever worry about the chain shifting during a set (by shifting I mean the plate lowering and the chain sliding through the clip a little bit and then the clips moving closer together really fast) and getting your junk pinched in the chain? I always make sure the chain is pulled tight enough that the clips are basically next to each other so the chain cant shift at all, but I'm worried that if I put on a few inches around my waist theres gonna be some space between the clips, which could possibly lead to some major junk squishing.

I used some 550 (parachute cord) and a carabineer for the longest time.

phenom - I hooked one link in the chain to the carabiner so that it wouldnt slide around like you said. that way i dont need to worry about it tightening or loosening.
