I am starting my cut since summer is approaching and I hit my goal of gaining 50 lbs. I think I am about 15% bf, no way I am more than 17%, so I am looking to drop about 12-15 pounds to get to 10% bf. I am a little worried, I have never tried to lose weight before so it is alittle weird. I am bulking on 4000 cals/ day right now, I am going to start my cut at 3000 CLEAN cals/ day for a couple weeks and see how it goes.

All I can say is PLAN and then PLAN some more. Variety is essential for health. Don't forget that. Find as many applicable recipes as you can, before you start.

Green Tea, Fresh Apples, Salads and Water will suppress hunger.

Good luck.

Going on a cut is really not that bad. The difficulty in the first time lies in the suckyness of your stomach growling all the time. Just watch your total calories and use Fitday to track. I did this for four months straight while on a 3 day split and lost 10 pounds. And this was on a dirty cut, as in, I didn't plan my diet in terms of specific foods, but overall calories and amount of protein (at least 1 gram per) and fat (about .5 gram per). My goal this year is to get abs, so I will be going on another cut in about a week.

PS: Even on my non-cheat days, I let myself eat cake or pie on occasion. I had to make sure that the higher calorie dessert fit into my macros and total calories though.

well, it's working! I have lost 5.5 lbs in 3 weeks, so I feel like my pace is pretty good so far. I notice it in my face, my love handles, and my chest the most so far. Hopefully 10-12 more pounds in the next 2 months will see me with a pretty good set of abs and some ripped up arms and shoulders.

diet:

8:30 am Opticen with 2 cups 1% milk

11:30 am (lunch) tilapia filet OR tuna steak OR chx. breast with 3 veggies
(carrots, turnip greens, broccoli)
2 cups skim milk

3:00 tuna salad kit OR salmon packet

5:00 PWO shake, 2 servings Nitrean in H2O

6:30 bowl of cereal

8:00 dinner, usually something like 2 hard-boiled eggs and a veggie or two, sometimes a glass of milk if it fits into my cals.

2400 cals/ day currently

critiques welcome!! thanks

I was going to suggest that you keep protein ridiculously high, but it looks like all your meals are centered around it anyway. Looks good for the most part. A few servings of healthy fats wouldn't hurt, though.

down to 193 now, still going ok. eating 2200 cal/ day currently, upped the cardio to 3x week for 30 minutes each. abs are starting to show a little, still some small love handles going on. I figure 10-12 more pounds ought to get me to where I want to be. I would really rather not drop below 180, I worked too hard to get here, LOL.

Noticing any muscle loss or strength loss? I still haven't started cutting since I replied to this thread a month ago lol.

actually, my squats are going up a little. I also have gone up on overhead presses. My bench has suffered a bit, though. get started!

LOL my abs are showing fairly well first thing in the morning, but throughout the day they disappear as I get hydrated/ start eating. Is this normal? I must be getting close b/c they are showing up pretty well.

just a guess but I'd say 12-13%. Delt separating from rest of arm, bicep vein showing up, abs starting to show. I think I am at about the % I was b4 I started, only now with an extra 40 lbs. :D

thanks for the encouragement. My overall goal is to get to 200 lbs at 10% bodyfat sometime in 2008. I plan to bulk up to 215 this fall/ winter after my cut, then cut again in the spring. I am fortunate in that even though I am almost 30, my body still doesn't like to hang onto fat, I have a ripping metabolism.

Wow I noticed you dropped your cals down to 2200! Did you choose that because you simply weren't seeing fat loss at 3,000?

I ask because I was bulking @ 4,000 like you and have been using 3,000 to cut.

the first 8 lbs or so were easy, I had to drop down after that. I am actually at 1800/ day currently and losing about 1.5 lb per week.

Wow, and that's with cardio?

How have your lifts been? Are you taking any fat-loss supps/stimulants?

yeah, cardio 2-3x a week, usually 30-40 minutes. Lifts are actually great, went up on a couple and holding steady on the rest. Just added Nitor from ATlarge to my regimen, haven't been on it long enough to give an opinion yet.
