The only milk I drink is non-fat skim milk...But, I drink like 2 gallons a week with ease. Is that bad?
Britney says milk does a body good.
It did hers real good.
Ya think?
haha.. on the real, non-fat milk is great. I drink more than a litre a day myself. Some people say dairy isn't good for cutting but I don't know why that is. Non-fat milk has no fat, low GI carbs, and protein.
I aim for a gallon of milk a day. I love the taste of it and its got a good bit of protein so

cool, I now I can drink it without thinking in the back of my head that I am doing something bad.

I drink almost a gallon a day as well. Really helps me get my calories.
Isnt that nesquick filled with extra sugar, I would probably stay away from it if it was strawberry or chocolote.

ding ding ding...full-fat has less sugar in it. i don't mind them. i'd rather that then the straight glucose form other carbs.

Ask the guys on Jackass. I believe they did an experiment on this one :)

From : http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/cgi-bin/nut_search.pl
Nonfat milk 1 cup
protein : 8.4g
fat : 0.4 g
carbs : 11.8g
Whole milk (3.5%) 1 cup
protein : 8.0g
fat : 8.0g
carbs : 11.4g
By drinking whole milk vs nonfat, you are trading 0.4g of protein and 0.4g of carbs for 7.6g of mostly saturated fat.
Even if you drink 10 glasses a day, a 4g difference in protein and a 4g difference in carbs shouldn't be the overriding reason to choose one type over the other.
It all comes down to how much fat you need.

dude american milk is weird.
our milk is per 100 grams
4 gram P
4 gram C
1.5 gram F

Well given that 1 cup ~= 250g, your milk would be:
10g protein
10g carb
3.75g fat
Maybe it's protein enriched or something?
Did you get that off of a carton?
In any case, the differences are not astonishing as that is very close to what we know as 2% milk.
My milk:
1L = 1000g
Prot: 34g
Carbs: 50g
Fat: < 10g
Those are ok for cutting, dont you think?´Im not looking to go below 10% anyway. Drink 1-2 of those a day.

full fat does not have significantly less sugar in it. the only reaosn why it has slighty less as you take 2% fat off wich will increase the sugar content by about 0.2 grams per hundred.

Milk is the greatest thing on earth! Well its a tie between milk and tuna. You can't have enough milk, unless you start to puke.
Question, why is milk sugar so bad if it is a low GI carb?
Spiderman
02-21-2002, 05:33 PM
Its just a carb...plain and simple. Its also a sugar... Lactose is digested much slower though so I'd think that its not THAT bad, but take into account that its still a carb no matter what. ;)
TreeTrunks
02-21-2002, 05:36 PM
Uh your body needs carbs
Spiderman
02-21-2002, 05:38 PM
True, but if you're already eating enough carbs in your diet, would you think you really need those extra carbs from Milk in there as well?

I plan on the carbs from milk, so why is that bad? If your counting calories, which im sure most people do on here, then you would take the carbs from milk into consideration right? Right so, I don't see why people think milk sugar is evil.
Spiderman
02-21-2002, 06:10 PM
well, if you're countin the carbs from milk...then by all means. ;) But you still pose a good question.. I don't know why they consider milk sugar bad for ya.

I have seen the suggestion that perhaps dairy consumption is linked to prostate cancer in men, but I have never seen anything where they have isolated the mechanism. ie. is it the saturated fat? is the the calcium? etc. etc.
I've just recently encountered this so I'm going to look into it. I wouldn't worry though :)
I think they say milk carbs are bad as not everyone can digest them. I can, so no problem to me. but its a way to sell a non-lactose source of carbs by slating lactose.
Lots of lactose intolerant people out there.

Its with a 'c' "mycket". Where did you learn that?! :)
Could a diet like this be successful?
carbs/prot/fat
50%/45%/5%

yes, if you're taking gear to generate hormones.

I drink 1% milk, and like a lot of you I drink around a gallon a day...
My milk has 100 calories/serving, and 18g's of protein so i'm getting about a 1000 calories and 180grams of protein from milk alone. Is that good or bad?
hemants
02-22-2002, 01:08 PM
Big, I'd up the fat to at least 10%.
Thadon, if you're drinking that much, you should switch to skim because that's almost 60g of fat (540 calories) which is mostly saturated.
yea the faat is probably more. But I was thinking about the carb/protein ratio, is that ok or should I lower the carbs?
And hemants why are you avoiding my question? ;)
hemants
02-22-2002, 01:55 PM
Big,
Don't worry too much about ratios. As long as you're getting 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight and the right amount of calories for your goals (bulking, cutting, maintenance), I'd say that the type of carbs and fat you are eating are more important than the amount.
BTW, All eder svensk krinna ar mina!
(I spent a term studying at Handelshogskolan in Stockholm)
Thadon
02-22-2002, 02:02 PM
Ok, so drinking that much skim wouldn't be a problem?
okie thanks.... i miss bulking. My carbs are ace though, so no problem there. Its just that I cant bring the carbs down anymore now.
Cool, did you like it. And why sweden? :) And your spelling sucks lol :p
hemants
02-22-2002, 02:47 PM
Thadon,
In and of itself it wouldn't be a problem. As long as milk isn't your only carb source and as long as your total carbs fit with what you're trying to achieve, it's prolly ok.
Podium Kreatin

does the carbs matter? it's inexpensive quality protein... i mean, it's not like a soda, which has no protein. plus, if u take milk w/ a protein shake, the protein amt woulid override the negatives of the milk's carbs, no?

carbs/prot/fat
50%/45%/5%
depends on how many kcals you eat. if your eating like 4,500 plus than you get ample fat.
I used to eat roughly 25% prot - 8% fat, 67% carbs. and got good gains.
but I was eating a lot of food. between 4,000 -6,000 kcals a day. so my level of fat was still like 50 grams.

Incidentally, I asked my brother in law (who is a Urologist) about the article I read linking dairy to prostate cancer and what he said was:
1. there is a link between saturated fat intake and all cancers
2. there's no other issue with milk specifically that would lead to a risk factor for prostate cancer.
So no need to worry :) (as expected)

Can anyone here drink a gallon of milk in one hour and keep it down without throwing up? Lots of people tell me it is impossible to keep it down for over an hour.
Also, can anyone eat a single piece of bread in 30 seconds without the use of liquid? I haven't tried it, but people tell me it swells up going down your throat making it impossible. Bread is like a sponge so It soaks up all your saliva, making you gag.
Has anyone tried/accomplished any of these tasks before? Thanks.

you can add powered milk to your normal milk for more protein and its cheap alternative to buying protein from a company.
