Stole this from my journal.
Kazz press is done on the smith machine. Line the bar up with your clavicle, grab it with a shoulder width grip and bring it down towards you. Keep your elbows tucked and once you get to about 6" above you, explode back up. Kinda like a mix between a JM press and a skull crusher but on a smith machine.

Looks like that tweak in my back from a few days ago, is now officially a blown out rib. I can barely breathe without excruciating pain. I'm f****n' pissed off. I had plans for a big squat tonight.

Sorry Stump, I even had the suit with me. I was gonna give er, but this is not what I wanted.
My training partner is gonna do some stuff for me on thursday to help fix the rib. He's really good at fixing this kind of stuff. He's fixed pinched nerves and dislocated shoulders that I've had, so I'm sure he can do something. If that doesn't work, then I go to get some ART done.

Oh thank God.
I keep popping my rib into and out of place. I have to do these weird scapular retractions (they look like shrugging pushups) to pull it in and keep it in. Seems to be helping, but it still feels loose in the socket. I think it's like dislocating a shoulder - once you do it, it happens over and over and over again.
Figure out what to do to keep your rib back IN or it'll happen again, bud.

Yeah, it was interesting how it all happened. It was super tight for a full day, then light walking made it looser, then I just did my normal back cracking routine, and voilą! It was nuts, I was on the bed and had my leg against the wall, pushed down on the hip, twisted my upper body the other way and CRUNCH.....oh god if feels good. I can't wait to deadlift!!!!

Birthday/DL/Birthday
June 22/07 - Ok, what a nutso weekend. Finished work on friday night, came home, drank a whole bunch of gin and vodka/rockstars, went to my bro's place, drank a whole bunch of beers, went to the club, drank a whole bunch of random drinks that people bought for me, passed out underneath a table with my feet in the air. I was politely carried out of the club and in to a cab. I got home @ 4am.
June 23/07 - Woke up groggy, fell over several times, drove my gf to her friend's stagette party, I got super jacked up on stimulants, went to the gym:
Deadlifts (Conventional, from the floor, belt only)
135x3
225x3
315x3
405x3
475x3
High Pulls
275x3x3sets
BB Rows
315x8x3sets
Not too shabby considering my blood/alcohol levels!
That night: came home from workout, ate 1.5 large pizzas, drank 13 beers at my house with my buddys. Went to stripclub, drank 10 more beers, my bro and his friend showed up, bought me 5 more beers, we went back to the same club as the night before, I had 10 more drinks bought for me, some dude bumps into me, I yell some profanity's at him, he gets mad, we start a mini rumble--too bad we were both so toasted that nobody laid a punch on anyone, we both fell on our asses and spilled our beers. At this point we were laughing at each other, everything was cool, we both had 6 shots of jagger, I pass out under the same table as last night, I get carried out by the same bouncer as last night, and I get out of the cab and into my house @ 6am, where I then went to sleep.
What a weekend.

Jesus, finally back in the gym. I was forced to take a week and a hlaf off in order to pack for my move. It was not fun, I've been super edgey, and I hate everyone. On saturday, we did the move. It was basically me and my training partner moving everything, so lot's of power cleans with couches etc. So it was somewhat of a workout. Popped out my rib again, then lifted an entertainment centre and popped it back in. And then yesterday, as me and my gf are unpacking s***, I pulled both bicep tendons. the right I pulled right where the arm bends, and of course, the left one gets pulled right at the anterior deltoid, where my shoulder injury was. So I'm quite pissed off about that s***, because I was lifting bloody boxes when it happened. I almost killed several people this weekend. Not a good long weekend, that's for sure.

Thanks fatboy. I was squatting wider than normal. Like 6" wider than shoulder width. I'm gonna go ultra-wide again, pretty soon. The gear is gonna be in full-force.
Hey Chris, do you think it would be a detriment to train in 2 ply gear even though I'm competing in IPF? I was thinking of just loading up the weight and crankin' on the gear and settling for a lot less weight in competition.

That's an interesting question. I haven't tried to squat in a single ply suit only in ages, so I don't know what the carryover would be. You have to figure it would help to overload, much like using bands/chains. Only problem might be that unracking weights in single ply might feel heavy since you'll have less support. You'll only know if you try though. :strong:

Yeah that's what I figured. I do love overloading though. But I already know that what I do in the gym will be more than in competition because of the tough judging...I'm already expecting this. I used to try and 'peak' for the competition, only to lift 50-100lbs less than I had planned. So now the plan is to get as strong as humanly possible in the next 20 weeks. It's gonna be tough getting strong and going down to 275. I have a feeling I'll need to cut 20lbs + the night before. It's not gonna be pretty.

haha maybe on a good day, with a whole lot of food, caffeine, and a nap. and getting as strong as humanly possible within the 20 weeks sounds like a good plan. dropping weight sucks though, i'm interested to see what your training looks like in the next little while, maybe i can learn something.

Update, no more box squats....ever. I broke my rib on the right side (not to be confused with the left one that was dislocated a few weeks ago). I can't breathe, walk or do anything without severe pain. Wtf. Am I calcium dificient or something?
I know exactly how it happened too. I keep my belt loose and push out the abs on the way up, in order to increase inter-abdominal pressure, and I guess I pushed out a little too hard as I heard a bit of a crunch. The next day I was f'd pretty good. Time to take some time off.

Good call Chris. That's my plan, I'm gonna give er with the gear; 1ply, 2ply, whatever. I'm gonna go for broke and basically overload everything and train with the heaviest weights possible and we'll see if that translates into decent competition lifts in single ply gear at an IPF event. Part of me thinks that this is a pretty stupid idea, and the other part of me thinks this is sweet because I like lifting heavy s***.

Sorry Sensei, you misinterpreted what I was saying. I'm training for a competition, so I'm training the big 3 right now....regardless of anything else. What I was saying was whether or not the heavy gear work will aid my competition lifts, taking in to account that they are IPF lifts.
BTW, I appreciate your concern. I understand where you're coming from, but "taking time off of the big 3" is just not what I'm about right now. I'm sure there's some people on here who know what I'm talking about.

I hate to be a dick about it and I'm not one to talk about staying away from injury, but it seems to me you're being pretty boneheaded about a competition...

tommy you're right, westside is pretty taxing on the body & joints. definetely one thing i've noticed, i think some time off from it is going to benefit me.
Absolutely lones. I still believe that the westside template is phenomenal if you're looking to gain strength in the big 3, but it's not for everyone. I've taken from it all the things that work for me and I've also dropped lot's of things because they are either too taxing, or not efficient. I also think that it's a great training system if you plan on using lot's of gear (2 ply or more) ; however, I'm currently focusing on raw strength and minimal gear, so it isn't working for me as much as I'd like it to.
So I've definitely learned more about my body and how it responds to various methods of training. Hell, I've been lifting weights for 12.5 years and I'm still learning what works for me! That's also the reason why I keep it up, so things get more challenging. I'm never ever satisfied, and I'm always gonna be hungry for more. Sure some of you guys may perceive me as crazy, or stubborn, but this is how I am. At age 13 I realized that I wasn't a typical team player, I hated relying on other people or teammates to get everything done and work together in perfect harmony. I've never let anyone tell me what I can and can not do. This is what led me to start track and field (throwing) it was basically me in control of an inanimate object, and it was up to me to throw it as far as I could. If it didn't go far enough, it was my own fault. If I failed, I had myself to blame; nobody else. I remember going to school at 5:30am to practice my technique for the hammer throw, because I never threw it as far as I should have. Then once school was finished, I would go to the weight room and lift until 6:00pm, because I knew that I had to get stronger to throw the shot further. When I look back on my throwing career, I put countless hours of training in, and yes I threw fairly far and I got my share of medals. But none of that mattered to me; I wanted to throw further and further. I've never competed purely for the 1st 2nd or 3rd place medals, I couldn't care less about that stuff. I wanted to go beyond my physical potential. The same thing goes for powerlifting. Yes I'm strong. But in no way am I even close to as strong as I want to be. In fact, I'm down right embarassed to post my training in this log, because I feel that my strength isn't where it should be. Sure I have many roadblocks in my persuit of strength: stress (work, gf, health) , injuries (plenty of those) etc. But I will never be satisfied. Unless people begin comparing me to someone like Kaz, I will never ever be happy with my level of strength. Sure, I probably won't ever be even close to as strong as Kaz; but I'm gonna try to be....even if it kills me.
Sorry for the rant.

Ok here's the scoop. My training has been embarassing lately due to numerous reasons. First off, my girl and I moved in together on July 1st, found an awesome basement suite, lot's of room...perfect. Well, thursday night we get a call, the people are selling the house. So basically we're S.O.L. Next thing, my f'n car. It's a '92 VW Jetta which I got from my grandpa for free. Great car.....so I thought. Ever since I moved, the s*** hit the fan, everything is going wrong with this car. On friday (1 day after hearing that we have to move again) the damn thing starts overheating on the highway on the way to work. Jesus f'n Christ. So who the f knows whats wrong with it, my dad took a look, might need a new radiator, among other things. Then, yesterday morning, my computer crashes. Beautiful. So, couple all of these beautiful factors, with rising credit card bills and a stressed out girlfriend and I guess you say I'm stressed. To make matters worse, I've been running around like a chicken with no head on, and haven't been able to get solid meals in, so my diet has suffered tremedously. 90% of my diet right now is whey isolate/sugar-free gatorade drinks.
So I'm gonna go ahead and say that these factors might have some bearing on my training. Anyways, I'm not one to make excuses, so I'm gonna have to get back on track in a hurry seeing as I have roughly 10 weeks to prepare for the next competition. So I'm gonna have to suck up all my personal problems and hit the iron hard. Heavy compund s*** and lot's of assistance and accessory work.
I apologize for the rant once again.

So I ordered a corona, and another and another and another.....anyways, I ended up having something stupid like 22 coronas, and I got so toasted, the corona girls came up to me, hooked me up with tonnes of corona gear, took my picture, now I'm part of the Corona VIP club and my picture is on the wall........no more beer for a while....:alcoholic

On your birthday! Hahaha
Buddy, that was the craziest birthday ever. I don't even remember anything after that moment. Apparantly, people kept on buying me drinks, and I was also buying myself drinks. I don't remember getting home, all I know is I was woken up by my mom 45 minutes after I got home. She told me I had to go to work (I worked at the gym by my house). So she dragged me to the car, drove me 1.5 blocks to work, I went to the front door, opened the gym, disarmed the alarm, and sat in my chair. Most of that shift was spent puking on Main Street, I've never known anyone could puke for 6 hours straight. My boss gets to work, tells me to go the f*** home. I look in the mirror at home, noticed that one side of my body is covered in bruises. I call my brother, he said that once we got home, I passed out on the front steps, he had to drag me inside, propped me up, then carried me to my room. Apparantly my brother was the cushion in between me and the wall. I saw my brother later in the day, he had bruises all over the other side of his body.

The last few days have been rough. Went to a wedding on saturday....f*** that was a long day. Nothing but girls crying, and people asking me when I'm gonna marry my gf....to which I replied "not for another 10 years." I had to miss my DE SQ day, which pissed me off the most....12 weeks out, this is crucial time in my training cycle. I definitely let my girlfriend know, as I was bitching about it all day long on saturday. Anyways, I ate a s***load of food at the wedding and took advantage of the free booze....just a mild buzz because I had to drive home. So it was nothing like my Corona night. Then yesterday I had to move.....AGAIN. So a little bit of GPP work, throwing couches etc. Finally got all our s*** in the new place, and now things can start to become normal. The only problem is that my gf's cousin (w/ 8 month old baby :bang:) is coming tuesday, and staying for a week. So the workouts are unfortunately going to suffer. Although, in order to get as much training in as possible, I'm gonna get up at 5am and train on tuesday and thursday---->That is what you call commitment. DE BP tonight.:burger: :strong:
