Mon. Aug. 13/07 - DE BP
Tried to wake up @ 6am to go do ME SQ/DL today, I got up, fell over, made it to the fridge, ate 2 slices of pizza, went back to bed. Not gonna happen today. Probably won't get a chance to do any type of squatting or deadlifting until next week.
LOL!

Got a chance to get away from the ball and chain + cousin + baby, and make a break for the gym. I figured I would test out and see where my squat was at in order to calculate all my percentages for the next 11-12 weeks before the comp.
And....I just got my new gear from Inzer. I needed a new bench shirt and squat suit, but had virtually no money, so I went super basic. An EHPHD for benching, and a Champion for squatting/deadlifting. So of course I wanted to test out the new gear.
Fri. Aug. 17/07 - DE SQ
Box Squats (14" box--1" below parallel) w/ Inzer Champion:
all sets w/ blue/green bands: 135x2/225x2/275x1/315x1
Shrugs: 225 3x10
Leg Curls: blue band 3x10
Hang Abs: blue band 3x10
Squats were easy as pie. Tonnes of tension as I found out a new method to choke the bands. In fact, there was so much tension that when I put the first blue on one side of the bar, it flipped right over.
As for the suit. Let me tell you something: I'm a huge Metal supporter, I love all the Metal products. But, as many of you may know, it's expensive stuff. Now I needed new gear because my old stuff is wayy too loose. So I took a gamble and bought a $42 Inzer Champion. This bastard is a great suit! I remember Sensei telling me that he really liked it. I agree with him. It's a solid suit. I ordered it for a 305 lifter, and of course I'm currently 322, and this bastard took some time to get on. But I got it on all by myself, and I get a lot of pop out of it. It's a good suit because it's basic, tight fitting, and easy learning curve. I got down to the box on my first set with straps up. I'm gonna give er a go on deadlifts tonight and see what I get from it. I personally don't wanna rely on a certain "groove" with gear. With this suit, it keeps me tight, and let's me lift in a more natural groove. I am quite happy with this suit.

Yeah they were fun, but easy. Much harder s*** to come. I'm still amazed how much I like the suit. I'm squatting a lot more natural now, which surprisingly, is a lot more narrow than I did before. This whole time I've been fighting the suit.
Still learning!:strong:

Thanks bro. Interesting enough, I have a hardcore, and I hate it. It's quite tight, but it does nothing for me.
The hardcore is made of thicker material and has those stupid angled legs, and wide straps. The champion is basically a thinner material (same as the EHPHD bench shirt) and has straight legs and thinner straps. Honestly, for $42you can't go wrong. Plus, if you want a 2ply champion, it's only $23 more. I still can't believe how cheap it was.

It's more like 700+ at the top, seeing as I used my new band setup. But keep in mind 700lbs of band tension is nothing like 700lbs of straight weight.

Dude, I tear my hands too. What are you gonna do about it?
I dunno, I have several options:
1) Find some undetectable substance to heal my skin and aid my grip
2) Get new hands
3) Eventually say F it to the squat and deadlift, and become a bench only guy
I'm leaning towards # 3.

lol yeah it's a pretty basic suit, but I like it.
Ace pulling, file those callouses down!
Thats the thing, I always trim the callouses w/ razor baldes. This weas fresh skin, not callouses that I ripped off. I grip the bar so tight that I generally rip some part of the skin off my palm.

Much appreciated PL! They should be getting stronger in the next 10 weeks or so.
UPDATE:
Ok, I've been doing some contemplating. I threw around the idea of doing bench only and scrapping the squat and deadlift; well that idea is out the window. I just ordered a new Metal suit, and a new pair of wrist wraps. I'm givin' er in the 3 lift. Also, in order to save my body a bit, I'm gonna be doing 1 squat/deadlift day as opposed to 2. I'll be rotating the ME and DE work every other week. I've had success with this is the past and it allows me to train a little bit heavier. We'll see how she goes.

Thurs. Aug. 30/07 - ME BP
Bench: worked up to 275x1
4board: 275x3/315x1/345x1/375x1/405xCrushed--see below
No training partners today so I was doing 4board in the rack. Everything was fine up to 375x1, easy as pie. Then I was jumping up to 405. I decided to raise the pins up 1 level in order to toss it forward if I bailed. So I measure the height of the boards and the pins, and there was definitely clearance for me to toss it forward. Or so I thought. I went down with 405, sunk it on the board and knew I was toast so I was gonna toss it on the pins but the height of the pins with the boards totally sunk, was level. So I was basically crushed by the bar, which drove the boards into my sternum and began putting pressure on my ribs and upper back muscles. I was pinned for a good 20 seconds and managed to roll the bar forward. I then blacked out for around 40 minutes. I couldn't speak properly, walk properly, drive properly or think or talk right at all last night. I had so much pressure put on myself that the blood rushed straight to my head and I get migraine caliber headaches all the time, right now. I'm doing 4 tylenol/4ibuprophen/4aleve every 4 hours right now, just for the pain. I don't think it could have gotten much worse than that. Lesson for the day: never bench alone.

No permanent injuries, just temporary injuries: head, back, chest, ribs, sternum and pride. I did some furious wrist rolling so the bar would roll forward on the pins and got off the boards.

I basically got the footing set, swung the bar forward, dip down in a hurry, and catch the camber on my upper back--then squat the bitch up.

At this point in the training cycle, accessory movements, such as hammer curls, are done purely for recovery aid. I did them so I could pump more blood in and around the forearm/elbow area in order to relieve my elbow pain and tendonitis. I used 40lb dumbells because training for a PR hammer curl at this point and time, will not bear any significance to the progression on my squat, bench, and deadlift.

Got my new 56 Metal Viking V-type yesterday, decided to give er a ride on sumo pulls. Big mistake. First off, let me say that deeder was right. Material is so thick and stiff, I could not move....let alone get to the bar. It took 20 minutes for my training partner and I to put it on. And in the process, I tweaked my hammy. Not good. 8 weeks out, and the hammy gets' f'd...beautiful. Nothing serious, but I'm gonna be smart and scrap the 3 lift for the meet. I'll do the bench only for sure, and right now get the hamstring healthy. I had some hip/knee discomfort in the left leg for a few weeks now, which I could deal with/work around, but this injury added on, makes me way too weary. So I'm gonna err on the side of caution and put the squats/deadlifts on hold. So saturdays are gonna be a bunch of bodybuilding pump sh** for my legs. Tuesday I'm gonna do lat/upper back work, and monday and thursday will remain my bench days. All I have to say is this suit is as gangsta as single ply gets. If I learn this properly, I'm quite confident it'll give me a 700 single ply squat....it's nasty as sh**!!!!
So I did like 3 sets of deadlifts, f'd my ham, called it, and did the following:
Pulldowns: 190 3x10
CSR: 180x10/225x8/270x6/270x6/135x12
Wide Face Pulls: 130x10/150x10/150x10/100x10
Then I had some chicken and broccoli..................yeah that's right.
One more thing:
deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right deeder was right

Box Squats: Put on my super diesel Metal Viking V-type and s*** the bed with it. Forced myself down to the box with 455+blue bands, straps were so tight that I just sat there. My training partner was like "oh s*** what do I do man?" He starts trying to lift it off, I said "f*** it", he moved back, and I dropped it; broke the box pretty well, but saved myself several injuries. That was it for squats on the day. I purposely didn't have the pins in the rack. I take such a wide grip that if I get pinned and dump it on the pins, I'll pretty much slice off my arms.

Viking material is a whole other beast. It acts like a canvas in that it gives huge stopping power, then you get the rebound of a poly. Tough to break in, but very good gear.

Thanks. Actually, Floor Press is considered a Max Effort lift on bench day, and it's only a few inches above my chest. So, no, it is not lockout work.

I must not be doing JM's the way you do. Mine are more like skull crushers to the neck and there's no way I could do them with much over 220 and my triceps are not lacking.

I pretty much do them the way JM outlines them in his video (see youtube clip). I guess I'm good at them. I dunno. HB, your bench is much stronger than mine, so I wouldn't worry about my JM presses....I won't catch your bench for a longgg time. At least not until I get a 2ply shirt:ninja:
