It's time i start making some progress again. It's been way too long.

I'm at 5'9 153lbs. I had a really bad case of the flu recently and i lost 9lbs. I've been around this 150-160 weight for the past year though. My weight and my numbers are getting old. I've been in nearly the same spot for a year now. It's time to change things. I want to be able to post some red (PR's) in here.

I can't remember the last time i stayed on track with a routine. I've never slacked on the lifting, but i haven't been on a set routine in a long time. Every time i make up a routine, it ends up being the same upper/lower type thing i've done since i started lifting. Anybody have any ideas for a routine?

I don't have a digital camera right now, so here's some crappy cell phone mirror pictures. I realize these pictures suck, and that there are no leg shots. When progress is actually made, i'll post up a new set of pictures in a month or two.

Just a lightweight still. It's time to put some mass on.

BB Bench
8 x 135
8 x 135
8 x 185
4 x 205
1 x 225
6 x 185

I almost never max out, but i felt like feeling 225 today. It's been a long time since i've done that. It went up well.

Chinups
BW x 8
BW x 8
BW x 8
BW x 8

Arnolds
40s x 8
40s x 8
40s x 8

Very easy. I worked out with my dad today. I like hitting up a workout with him when i can. He only has DB's up to 40s here though.

Lat Pulldowns
8 x 135
8 x 135
8 x 135

On a usual day, i wouldn't do pulldowns. I felt like doing them because i can't remember the last time that i did. This exercise would normally be bb rows or t bar rows.

Overall

Short, but good intense workout. The benching felt good. Chinups are feeling solid. It's time to add weight on the chinups again.

I seriously need to get a routine written down on paper though. I've just been doing whatever, like today, for way too long.

My dad is out in the kitchen making BLT's, so i'm going to see how many i can pound down.

pinky8713
03-28-2007, 06:11 PM
This was my second BLT.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/pinky8713/BLT.jpg

I just owned four of them, with two tall glasses of milk.

That's good for me. :D

I have a small protein shake to drink, and then this is my fitday for the day. I'll definitely eat another 500 calories or so too before i end up going to bed.

Calories - 4214
Fat - 203
Carbs - 358
Protein - 248

My goals are 4,000+ calories, and to at least keep the protein 225+, which i usually eat a lot more protein than that.. so it's never a problem. Today's eating has been good.

Dad is so cool, I know them sandwhiches he made hit the spot, lol.

You always have that mean and lean look, lol...you'll have one of the best physiques around if you stay with it - just get in the gym and do whatever you want to do without too much concern with splits for a while.

Deadlifts
8 x 135
8 x 135
3 x 185
2 x 225
1 x 275
1 x 275
1 x 275
1 x 275

I kept doing 275 because i was messing with my form. My deadlift form hasn't felt right the past couple of months. I keep my back tight and straight, but it's just not feeling right. It used to be my favorite lift, but i'm just not feeling it now. Next workout, i'm just going to practice my form again.

Front Squats
8 x 135
6 x 165
6 x 165

Good form, really deep.

Leg Press
12 x 2pps
12 x 3pps
12 x 3pps

Standing Calf Raises
12 x 185
12 x 185

Calf Raises on Leg Press
12 x 1pps
12 x 1pps
12 x 1pps

Overall

An okay workout. The front squats had nice depth and were feeling good. The deadlifts not feeling right kind of sucks. I think i'll work on the deadlift form on one of my off days here.

My weight was 152lbs yesterday. I think i'm looking even leaner if that's possible. I ate good yesterday, about 4,000 calories. And i'm pounding down the food now.

Hey, how's it goin Kiaran? Yeah i know, i just have to keep the eating up. I eat so well for a good week or so, and then school and stuff starts catching up with me, and the eating goes back to being nowhere near enough. I think this journal will help me out a bit.

I'm going to the gym tomorrow to do some upper body work and whatnot. I'm editing my fitday information for today now too. I hit 5,000 calories. Time to go to sleep haha.

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

BB Bench
8 x 185
4 x 205
8 x 185

I wasn't really feeling the 205, don't know why. I didn't have a spotter either, so i wasn't about to go for more.

T-Bar Rows
8 x 135 (3 plates)
8 x 135
8 x 135

Arnolds
10 x 40s
10 x 40s

The 40s are getting very old. My gym closes at 5pm on sundays, so i worked out at my dad's house again. I'm looking forward to using the 50s at the gym this week.

Chinups
BW x 8
BW x 8

Overall

Fairly quick, intense workout. All of my workouts are intense. No messing around. In my opinion, my volume isn't very high, but i've seen very good results in the past with lower volume. If i keep my volume low, but workouts intense, while pounding down massive ammounts of food, i'm in good shape.

I would like to get on a set routine. I am going to decide on something before next workout. I may go back to my original upper/lower split. If anybody has any interesting routines that they are enjoying, let me hear them.

As far as eating goes, it's been good since i started the journal. It's especially been good these past couple days. I ate just over 5,000 calories yesterday. Today i'm at 2,000, but i've only been up for six hours. I'm going to eat dinner now (chicken on the grill). I'm aiming for 4,500 calories tonight.

This is a picture of me on a daily basis, without a pump. I realize i look like i'm half asleep, and that's because i was. I don't normally plan on putting these pictures up, but then i decide to.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/pinky8713/April1st20071.jpg

I won't post anymore pictures until i reach some kind of mark. I'll get a digital camera and post a set of pictures when i reach a solid 160 or 165, since i haven't taken a good set of pictures in a long time.

P.S. I set up the mirrors in my basement during today's workout, so that i could see my back. I was pretty happy with how it's looking. I haven't necessarily seen it in a while haha.

I too like low-volume workouts. Well, when I used to lift, I liked low-volume. And besides, I didn't feel like spending my extra time on tricep kickbacks and crap. That was time that could've been spent chugging protein shakes.

You do look a bit leaner since the last pic I've seen. I think I'll go take a pic of myself right now. It's been what...like a year and a half since I've last lifted weights? Hopefully it'll motivate me to start lifting again.

Keep up the work Pinky.

Got the right idea, just go at it gradually - you'll be on this summer if you can gain a few more solid pounds.

Might want to try something other than the upper/lower split you did before, should experiment a bit imo.

I'm really enjoying my 5x5 routine. It's in my journal.

Workouts are quick and intense, and it's been working great for me. I'm going to have to add some HIIT in there too though.
Going to start some of that tomorrow hopefully, but I'm lazy.

CoCoa - I agree. I will most likely try something different. Change things up.

Phil - I hear ya buddy. I'd like to see more 5,000 calorie days too haha.

Chris - Thanks Chris. I'll go ahead and check out your journal. I do like 5 x 5 work, so we'll see.

This is a little off the topic of bodybuilding, but i have some stuff on my mind.

For the first time, i feel like my life is finally coming together. The past few months of my life have been great. Things seem to keep getting better. I've taken care of a lot of things that needed to be done, such as finally getting my GED this week. This means i'm moving to another department at my work, which means making $2/hour more, plus good commission. I've taken care of most of the things that used to cause stress in my life and it's feeling great. I've met so many new girls in the past months that it's not even funny. Life has been great and keeps getting better.

With that being said, there is only one thing that i can honestly think of that i need to change right now. That would be the effort that i'm putting into college. I'm pretty behind right now. I'm going to have to work my ass off to catch up over these last four to five weeks of school. I can still pass, and i can get caught up. It's just not going to be easy. I'll do it. Today was my first day back at school after spring break, and it was a good day. School seems to be much easier when you don't have so much other stress in your life. It's cake from here on out.

I forgot to mention, along with everything else, my lifting is completely back on track. Life is good.

Fitday for the day, so far -
Calories 3578
Protein 253

I'm going to try to get down another 500 before bed. I'll update in the morning. Tomorrow's workout is going to be a squat workout. I'm pumped.

Squats
8 x 135
6 x 135
6 x 185
6 x 225
6 x 225
5 x 225

I was going to do one more set of five, but somebody talked me out of it (read below). He said that i was going to wear myself out. I wasn't worried about that, but i just moved on anyways. It's all good. These squats were real deep as usual and felt great.

SLDL's
8 x 135
6 x 225
6 x 225

SLDL's are always great. In my opinion, my form is top notch. I'll be going heavier next workout.

Standing Calf Raises
12 x 185
12 x 185

Calf Raises on Leg Press
15 x 1pps
15 x 1pps
15 x 1pps

Overall

Solid workout. The squats and SLDL's are always good. My squats were real deep. I think i've been being a pansy lately. I do prefer low volume, but next time i'll be throwing another lift in there.. most likely lunges or something.

I met two other guys in the gym today whom i squatted with. The are both really big and strong guys. The one guy is 46 years old. He's been lifting for 29 years, on and off. He was about 5'8, and told me he was about 190lbs. He was solid. He told me that he was just getting over the flu so he wasn't sure how much weight he was going to do today. He worked his way up to 5 plates a side, plus 25's. That should be 545lbs i believe. He repped it out about four times like cake. Nice and deep. He said that's all he was going to do for today, while trying to get over his flu and all. He was a strong dude.

After my first heavier set of squats, the first thing he says is, "You have really great form." My squat form is very good.

I'm eating great today. I'll post my fitday before bed. I'm not missing a day of major eating. It's on.

I'm heading to class. I'll post my fitday from yesterday later.

I finally got myself on a set routine. Even though it doesn't look like my favorite, i'm going to give that variation of Bill Starr's 5 x 5 a try. Everybody seems to say good things about it anyways. Anything should be better than the same workouts i've been doing since i started a year and a half ago. What do i have to lose, right?

Monday, April 9th, 2007 - Weight 154lbs

Week 1

Full Squats
5 x 135
5 x 155
5 x 175
5 x 205
5 x 225

It was so easy at the beginning. I know it's supposed to be. I was happy when i could finally feel the weight at 205 and 225. My form was ace. It always is. I am though, going to do some more reading up tonight, to learn more and maybe work on getting a more powerful squat form, instead of just having a good squat form. If you know what i mean.

BB Bench
5 x 105 (my god.. never thought i'd touch that weight again)
5 x 135
5 x 145
5 x 165
5 x 185

T-Bar Rows
5 x 70
5 x 90
5 x 105
5 x 115
5 x 135

I did the first two sets in no time. I did not enjoy using that light of weight haha. I'll get over it.

Overall

Great workout. I kept the intensity high. I shortened up my rest times a tad to compensate for the lighter weight.

I'm not really sure what i think of the routine yet. It's not my favorite way to train. The first couple or few sets are extremely light. I don't start to feel weight until the last two sets. The last one is where i finally get into some weight that i feel like i'm working to push.

With that being said, i'm sticking to it. I do believe this routine will give me some good results. I expect to see some sweet PR's when i start getting past week four.

One thing i changed about the routine though, was that i did tbar's today instead of standard bb rows. I just really enjoy tbars. What do you guys think about this?

Kiaran
04-09-2007, 11:16 PM
Hey, bro, I'm liking the workout. Wish I could say 225 was "light" on squats, but it never is. You asked my opion, so here it is: T-Bars are alright, but they don't hold a candle to what heavy Bent Rowing can do for you. T-Bars can be fun but they just don't feel the same to me. Bent Rowing really helped out my deadlift as well. Nice work, man, keep them coming.

pinky8713
04-10-2007, 12:14 AM
Alright, i'll be honest with you.. I completely agree about the rows. I just enjoy T-Bars more. I was hoping that nobody would respond telling me to do Bent Rows, so that i could fool myself into thinking the t-bars were just as good.

Haha. I'll do bent over rows from now on, because i agree.

Built
04-10-2007, 12:20 AM
The thing I like about t-bars is I can do them without my old, injured, middle-aged back giving out. Rows are better though, I agree.

You look like you have a fire lit under you. I'll be watching - I wanna see you fill up your God-given potential. Remember, to whom much has been given, much is expected.

Week 1

Full Squats
5 x 135
5 x 155
5 x 175
5 x 205
5 x 175

Cake.

BB Bench
5 x 105
5 x 135
5 x 145
5 x 165
5 x 145

Easy. My legs and chest were a bit tired from Monday though. I feel like this work on Wednesdays is like an active recovery type thing.

Conventional Deadlifts
5 x 135 (i was working on my form on these first sets)
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 175
5 x 205
5 x 245
5 x 275

My sumo deadlifting hasn't been feeling right lately, so i just decided to give conventional a shot again. This was my first time going conventional style in over a year. It felt really really good, but nowhere near as strong. I'm going to keep going conventional style for the time being. 285 next workout. Then 295, and so on.

Overall

Good workout, but i did make some mistakes.
1) After i finished benching, i realized that i was supposed to do incline or military press. It's all good though. Next time.
2) I accidentally did an extra set on my squats and my benching.

No big deal at all. Just sayin'.

5 x 205
3 x 230

Easy.

BB Bench
5 x 105
5 x 135
5 x 145
5 x 165
3 x 190
2 x 225

I wasn't supposed to do 225, but the 190 was just so easy and i wanted more haha.

BB Rows
5 x 95
5 x 95
5 x 105
5 x 105
5 x 135
5 x 135

Overall

This was the roughest workout ever. I slept from 4am to 6am last night and that was it. I didn't want to skip the workout though. I hit the numbers i was supposed to which was a huge suprise having no energy whatsoever. That was pretty sweet. I even hit the double at 225.

Week 3

Full Squats
5 x 135
5 x 165
5 x 185
5 x 215
5 x 240
5 x 245

I thought that the 240 set was 245. When i was taking the weight off, i realized that i had a ten on one side, and a five on the other. I don't know what i was thinking. I've never messed up counting weights before. I went back and did a true 245 set. It was solid. My squat is feeling so good and strong. I plan on to keep going up 10lbs for a few more weeks at least.

BB Bench
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 165
5 x 185
5 x 205

Hell yeah, not bad. I wasn't maxed out after five reps, i had some more in me, so i was pretty happy. 210 for five next week, upping 5lbs every Monday.

BB Rows
5 x 105
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 155

Overall

Solid workout. My squats are feeling so damn good. They're my favorite lift for sure. I'm pumped to see how high i can get my squat with this run.

My benching was good too.

Rows are a little iffy for me. I keep strict form. I try not to use any momentum and i keep myself close to 90 degrees. I just don't really feel them all that much in my lats. I'm sure they're working, but i'm not too fond of them. I feel like it's more of a lower back workout (keeping stabilized since i keep a nice arch). Oh well, i'll think about it more later.

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Full Squats
5 x 135
5 x 165
5 x 195
5 x 195

Conventional Deadlifts
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 225
5 x 255
5 x 295

Overall

Just light squatting today. The deadlifts were pretty sweet though. Form is looking good and the 295 was fairly easy. I'm prety happy with that since i just started conventional style again, and it was a little rough at first. I'm moving up 10lbs every Wednesday with the deadlifting. Five at 305 next week.

Oh yeah, i skipped the light benching today because my dad wants to have a workout with me tomorrow. He wants to do some benching, so i'm just going to hit up some benching with him. That's going off of the routine, but who cares? Gotta hit up a workout with dad.

5 x 155
5 x 185
7 x 205
3 x 225 (PR)
1 x 240 (PR)
8 x 195

Overall

Hell yeah! I've never had a max attempt feel so good. The 240 went up like butter! I'm pumped. Sometime real soon, i'm nailing 250. I may be able to do it now.

I did a little close grip bench work afterwards, but that was it. This was just a little benching with dad type thing. My routine is a little messed up this week because of this, but it's all good. Tomorrow i'm squatting and bb rowing. On Saturday i'm going to do some light benching. Then on Monday i'm back at it with heavy squatting, benching, rowing.

I weighed in at 160lbs today too. Slowly, very slowly, moving up.

I ate well yesterday. Today i'm at 3,000 calories and i'm going to be up for another five hours. Today's totals will be good.

I got a new job last week and started working for an inground pool construction company. It kicks ass. I like it.

My girlfriend, Lauren, is great too. We've only been dating for a few weeks now, but it's awesome.

Life is pretty damn good right now. I do have to do a crapload of English work by Wednesday though. I'll get on that.

Oh, so now you too are kicking my ass at bench, lol! Damn impressive bro, I'm sure you could get 250-255 at least. Just keep working the deadlifts and rows; the lower back will get stronger. On your rows, if you feel like your lower back is playing too much in it, then you might try touching the weight down to the ground every rep or two to give the stabalizers a little break. Doesn't mean you are doing anything less, just not as much torque on that back. It is just rowing afterall.

Coke - Haha thanks man.

Phil - I'm trying dude. School just kicked my ass. I haven't been eating as much as i would like.

Kiaran - I'm hoping to go for 250 in the near future. I'm pretty pumped about it.

BB Bench
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 165
5 x 185
5 x 215

Hell yeah.

Full Squats
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 185
5 x 225
5 x 245

I was planning on going up to 255 x 5 this week, but i wasn't feeling the squats this day. I hardly got any sleep the night before, and i had barely eaten any food. I ate once, and then was at my school the entire day trying to crank out english work that was due today. I expected squats to feel weak. I was shocked that my bench didn't suffer. It felt insanely strong.

BB Rows
5 x 105
5 x 105
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 155

Overall

The benching kicked ass. I was shocked considering i had no sleep and hardly ate this day. I could have repped the 215 a couple more times. I was pretty pumped. My squats on the other hand, sucked. I just wasn't feeling it, so i stayed with 245. I expected that though, so it's okay.

I'm off track with my routine. Today was my last day of class (though i have one last essay that is due by 5pm on sunday night). These past few days I have been cranking out the school work, trying to get it all done. I was behind.

I'm going to do some venting here. I had a real stressful day. I don't keep any other type of journal, so sometimes i like to get my thoughts down here. Read and comment if you like. If not, it's all good. I just need to vent.

I spent seven straight hours today writing English essays and writing assignments. My English teacher gave us until 5pm today to turn in any work we had not turned in for the class. I arrived at my school around 10am, and wrote essays until 5pm, without taking one single little break. I did about 25 hours of work in seven hours. I finished MOST of the assignments and essays that i had missed. We have one final essay that is due by 5pm on Sunday. I'm going to write a grade A kickass essay. I still do not know if that will give me a passing grade in the class or not. I'll have to wait and see.

I'm extremely disappointed in myself. This was my first semester at communtiy college. I recieved an F in one class, and i withdrew from two classes because i could not pass at that point in time. If i pass my English class, i'll leave first semester with three college credits (from English) and one F. Pretty dandy.

On a side note, my life is going great out of school. I love my job, i have the greatest girlfriend, and lifting is kicking ass. I really need to fix the school thing though. It really bothers me that this is the one area of my life that i am not happy with.

I've decided that i'm going to take a couple of credits over the summer. I'm going to be working around 40 hours a week, so i don't want to overwhelm myself, but i think i'm going to take a couple of classes. I know that my school offers online classes, so i'll have to look into it. I just failed my math class. I know all the material but i did not apply myself. This will be very, very easy to do quickly over the summer. I want to take another class with it. I'm not sure which class yet though.

I feel i need to make up for the time i wasted. I see no reason not to, especially when i know the material already.

I've been thinking a lot tonight about what i want to do with my life. I honestly have no idea what i want to do. I'm only 18 at this point though. I think it would help to come up with some shorter term goals though.

This is what I would like to achieve over the next few months. I would like to have these things achieved by the start of the fall semester to be exact.

- Goals for this summer

-- Pass two courses over the summer.
-- Save up a minimum of $3,200 dollars by September.
-- Increase lifts and break free from the steady 160lb weight i've been at forever :D

My lifting was going so good. I was staying on track with everything. I haven't been eaten too well this past week, though I should still be at the same weight. I'm thinking about 159/160. My last day of class for this semester was yesterday, so I have been working my ass off when it comes to school. I haven't been sticking to my lifting routine, but i've still been doing the workouts.. and trying to do as close as I can to the routine.

Anyways, school is over. I should be completely back on track again.

BB Bench
5 x 135
5 x 135

Just light benching, and light squatting today. I'll be doing heavier benching and squatting on Saturday.

Deadlifts
5 x 135
5 x 135
5 x 185
5 x 225
5 x 305 (PR)

Sweet. This is a PR for conventional style now, even though it was fairly easy. I'm going to kill 315 x 5 next Wednesday.

Overall

Even though most of this workout was light, it was one of the most difficult workouts ever. I got four and half hours of sleep last night and then worked for 12 1/2 hours. Work was good today, but getting myself to do the workout sucked. You gotta do what you gotta do though. I was pumped that I did the deadlifting that I was supposed to today.. and even more pumped at the fact that my deadlift is feeling insanely strong while half asleep. It's coming along nicely.

My lifts are coming along strong. I'm making some awesome strength gains. I'm not eating enough to be making awesome size gains. I still need to get that part down.

Phil - Keep at it buddy. You can stay on track andd study at the same time. I know it's rough though. You'll be killing it again soon. No problem.

Coke - Thanks buddy. Sleep has been my main problem lately (besides eating which is always problem number one). I need to get more sleep. I'm exhausted.

I'm feeling strong.

Solid workout. My buddy Newman, who i'm with everyday, said, "Dude, you have to have gained some weight recently. You're looking a lot bigger." He doesn't normally say that. Of course i'm the same weight though. I'm about 156lbs right now, same as I have been for a long time now. I'm feeling really good though. I'm feeling lean as hell and strong in the gym.

8 x 135
8 x 135
6 x 185
8 x 225
3 x 245

SLDL's

Solid workout. I hit that triple at 225 and it was solid as hell. My form is legit, and i touch my chest without bounce on every rep. I want to set a new bench max PR for myself soon at 250.
