1,003 pound deadlift. wow. i've been reading up on this dude and watching videos, and he pretty much amazes me.

his split looks like this

Monday- Bench, shoulders, tri's
Tuesday- Cardio
Wednesday- Squats, deadlifts (the deadlifts are more like rack pulls, he does them elevated with boards)
Thursday- Legs, upper back, traps
Friday- cardio
Saturday- cardio
Sunday- rest

this split is kind of weird, not really what i expected. why does he do squats wednesday then legs thursday? i guess its just what suits him, and it sure as hell works.

A big lifter doing cardio 3 times a week seems odd. Anyways where are the videos?

If it was in flex chances are its crap. Cool flex is covering more strongman and powerlifters though.

I wonder if by "cardio" he means HIIT or GPP stuff. Even so, not what I'd expect from an elite level powerlifter. Generally, doing much cardio would be a hindrence in making muscular/strength gains.

Andy posts on one of the British powerlifting boards. I'm sure he'd be willing to answer any questions.

No that's really his routine. He also does a lot of plyometrics.

Don't believe what you read in FLEX. Light cardio will actually help the recovery process. No matter what his training split is, he's a strong dude. I think he squatted 1211, benched 631, and DLed 931 at the Arnold.

I did Cardio, lost 80 pounds and added 25 pounds to my bench :) So yeah if incorporated right Cardio can help :)

Where are you getting that from?

That site lists his workout like this:

Monday: Bench press and relevant assistance work (board presses, etc). Shoulder work, which will include some pressing up to around 8 weeks out, then heavy front and side raises. Assorted triceps work, with pressdowns forming the base.

Wednesday: Squat and deadlift, with both lifts being trained within the set percentage parameters required by each particular mesocycle. After deadlifts, very heavy leg presses and leg curls are performed for 6 sets of 8-10 reps. Heavy abdominal work concludes the workout.

Friday: This is reserved for upper back assistance work and will involve two forms of rowing, followed by one form of pulldowns. Heavy shrugs will be performed for six sets and some biceps work will wrap up the session.

RAW = Without the use of support equipment (suits/wraps).

Drug Free = No banned substances.

Yeah, what I should have said was, 'Is Andy lifting clean or juiced?.

Having just watched his DVD, he seems to be heavily juiced.

OK!. Stupid ?.

Having just watched his DVD, he seems to be heavily juiced.

That must be why he's so strong then.

Cant be anything else lol

Just wondering if it was humanly possible to lift such loads clean. :hello:

Would he be stronger than guys like Charles Atlas, Louis Cyr, Alexander Zass etc having been around back in the day?.

Obviously there is no definitive answer to this. Any answer would be purely speculation.

But its a dead cert you wouldn't see Bolton pulling the loads he does today way back when, now that juice is a big part of the game?.

What do you mean "now" that juice is a part of the game? So everyone who is strong must be taking some?

Your logic is flawed. And for the record, juice was around when the guys you listed were lifting too. It's certainly not new.

What is this juice you speak of and will it make me deadlift 900+lbs?

That's the rubbish stuff.

The proper stuff that Bolton must use makes you pull 1000+!!

He's just keeping it all himself so no-one else will pull a grand.

Lol, ******s.

It's weird you chose Charles Atlas considering his biggest claim to fame was dynamic tension rather than weight training. Some claim he did in fact lift weights, others including his family and Bill Pearl among others insisted he did not lift weights.

Either way why would you want to compare the deadlft strength of Andy Bolton with someone who claimed to never deadlift.

Andy would be strong no matter when he lived and I think that is all that matters.

Granted, juicing "can't turn a donkey into a thoroughbred".

Right, but with so many supplements & "juices" on the market, if there was just 1 (Bolton) in a 100 doing the juice or using a GREATER stack, Wouldn't you EVER feel cheated if you competed in powerlifting?. Wouldn't you actually find that unfair?.

This sport must be about recognition, not competition.

I got news for you its not just 1 in 100... in any sport perhaps outside of golf.

I got news for you its not just 1 in 100... in any sport perhaps outside of golf.

But it would be impossible to call there all juicing the same gear & using the same stacks.

I just see an unfairness to it all?.

There must be significant gains to be made for guys who respond/use better gear.

Cali4nia

An example would be EPO used in cycling.

Its a 30% gain on a clean rider, straight-up.

Cali4nia, you need to stick to what topic you want to discuss if you want your questions answered.

Are you wanting to discuss your original question or do you want to discuss the effectiveness of drugs?
