I want to get a 12 inch sub + Box + Amp for my car and hook it into the stock cd player. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on finding these online for cheap? As well anyone have any suggestions. At the store the guy quoted me as 12 inch sub 89 box 50 amp 100 wire kit 25 and then some piece needed to hook it into the stock cd player for like 13 dollars. Any Help appreciated.

Depends on what you want. You'll need a Line out converter to hook it up to the stock deck. I wouldn't trust a $13 one too much. Then again, with a $89 sub, and $100 amp, it might not matter.

I got tons of car stereo stuff laying around. I really should sell it since it is just in my closet. but it is mostly higher end gear and more expensive then what you listed. I got a 10" Adire Koda, boxes, wires, a few Cadence amps, and other stuff just laying around.

Unreal, thats some good stuff. I currently have a 15" Resonant Engineering SX with a Planet Audio 1250D amp in a 3.6 cu. ft. ported box.

But back to the OP, you should really look online and look to buy used gear. My set up cost me less than 400 (i built the box myself) altogether and its legit.

I would also look into getting an aftermarket headunit, it improves sound overall and looks better IMO.

I feel like it has pretty good sound already, it even has decent base because of the big trunk, but I just want a little bit extra base. Plus I don't want to spend a lot of money.

I got two 1000 watt each 12'' Infinity subs, a 1200 watt PowerAcoustik amp, and a box for 200 from a friend who didnt want them. Ask around your school, you can probably find a deal. If you're not in school...ebay is your friend, unless you're me and have 2000 dollars stolen from you :)

well you need to find out how many watts your current head unit pushes out. Usually an aftermarket head-unit is going to push out more. What amp are you getting for $100? When you find a deal like that, you usually get what you pay for. I would look into getting a used amp on eBay if I were you. Also that wiring kit they'll give you more than likely will suck. You can get speaker wire super cheap on eBay.

truthfully, its going to sound like **** with a line out converter. Get an aftermarket HU with rca outs to hook your subs up and that alone will improve sound quality a ton. If you are going to spend the money and get it all installed, you might as well spend a little bit more for it to sound good. My setup cost me around $250: I have pioneer speakers (cheap and crappy, but they are better than the stockers) an alpine HU, kenwood 600watt amp (ebay) 12" audiobahn sub (new on ebay for $25) and a 6 gauge ebay wiring kit. I made my own box for the sub because all the pre-fabbed ones didnt fit my car so I made it to the exact specs I needed, cheaper. All of this sounds amazing together... it wont win any competitions but is perfect for the car and can get really loud without distorting.

If I were you, I'd buy everything off of ebay. That will be the cheapest route, and install it yourself. It is actually really easy to do and will save you some money.

Optimum, I got 2 RE8s in my mom's truck. They sound great for 8s.

Whats funny is I can't even give this stuff away. Had the sub listed for $120, amp for $160. New they are $240, and $350. The amp does 750w RMSX1. People rather have popular brands like Alpine, JL, etc instead of quality stuff.

I'm talking to a few sound stream guys at the moment and I might be able to get 5 of those spider amps, they have a pretty nice wiring system done on them. Waay better than the picasso's that alot of people had problems with.

My recommendations:

Sub: JL Audio, Image Dynamics
Speakers: MB Quart, Boston
HU: Eclipse, Alpine

I used to be obsessed with my audio, but I just need a little extra thump now. I'm currently rockin a JL 12w6 with a RF 200w amp, everything else is factory Monsoon VW. Good enough for me.....

Mine would be:

Subs: RE, Adire, ID
Speakers: Rainbow, DLS, Dynaudio, CDT, Focal
HU: Pioneer, Alpine, or any quality brand that has the features you want

Cool to see some of you know a little about car audio.

To the op: Definitely don't get a loc. Spend the extra money and get an aftermarket headunit, I can assure you it'll sound a thousand times better. As far as car audio goes, you definitely get what you pay for.

To unreal: Your definitely right :) Most poeple are ignorant and don't really know much about quality stuff. All they know is MTX, Kicker, JL, and then the real junk: Sony, Audiobanh, etc. and they think because it's popular it's good. Besides the different headunits I've had, Alpine and Eclipse, most poeple have never heard of my Subs, amps, components, such as..... RE SX, Adire Brahma, Ascendant Audio Avalanche, Sound Splinter RLP, FI BL, old xtant amps, PPI Art series, Orion HCCA, and the list goes on.

I got a pioneer DEH-P7700MP Deck of ebay for 107 with shipping included, seemed like a good deal they were going for 150 on amazon. I think it's an older model but I don't really care.

Kicker makes some bad ass subs man and has for a long time.

I never said Kicker was junk. Comp Vr's are great for the price. Solobaric's are trash, but I won't get into that. Most poeple think of Kicker only because it's popular, you can buy it in popular stores, (Best Buy/Circuit City), or they may have heard some idiot with a solo x and thought, wow that's really loud I want that!

My buddy use to have 2 stroker 15's in his camaro, it was SICK ass system.

04-17-2007, 07:58 PM
I think you meen Cerwin Vega??

I don't recall Kicker ever making a sub called a Stroker.

HahnB
04-18-2007, 08:08 AM
Yes, cerwin vega makes them-I wasn't saying that kicker did. I use to want just a loud system when I was 16 but if I ever get another one I just want moderate bass but the absolute best quality.

Invain

Yeah, most kids now have no clue what sound quality is, and think any system is gay if it's not "loud enough."

BigRic

I have another question. would yall suggest getting something like dynamat installed in the trunk or is it not needed?

HahnB
04-18-2007, 04:39 PM
Yeah, most kids now have no clue what sound quality is, and think any system is gay if it's not "loud enough."

That being said, is there any place for a 15" sub in a sound system that desires the best sound quality? I always thought 12" subs gave off much cleaner bass. I suppose if you invested 1000 bucks in a top of the line 15 the difference might be minimized.

Invain
04-18-2007, 04:54 PM
Ric: If you have the money and don't care about tearing your trunk apart dynamat can make a difference. I have edead in my trunk, made by elmental designs, it's pretty much the same thing as dnyamat, only cheaper. Anyway, sound deadening your trunk not only helps the sound quality a teeny bit, it helps reduce road noise a little, depending on how well your trunk is already dampened.

Hahn: Yes, there are lots of 15's that are still meant for sq. My current sub is a 15", and it sounds better than 99% of the other setups I hear. Most people think because it's a 15 it's just gonna be loud and won't sound as great because since it's bigger, it must also be heavier, and hence won't move as fast. Almost all subs nowadays have cones made from such light materials that going from 12 to 15 inches really isn't that big of a difference. Usually, with a higher quality sub, you won't hear much difference at all in accuracy between a 12 and 15. It all depends on the setup though, if the enclosure isn't right the sub might 'lag' a little.

My single 10" Adire Koda with 350 watts to it sounds cleaner and was louder then a lot of peoples "name brand" setups. Get some quality gear setup correctly and you will be impressed.
