RULES:
*Unrack and squat 315lbs as many times as you can before reracking it (or dropping the bar - don't hurt yourself!).
*Plain-old squats. No smith machine, squat machine, leg press, bowflex, leg press, NO EXCUSES - JUST SQUAT!
*Squats should be to, at least, parallel. "To Parallel" is defined as when the crease at the hip is level with the top of the knee.
*Video is preferred, but not required. However, TO WIN THE CONTEST, VIDEO IS REQUIRED. Video should be taken from the side with a clear view of the participant and the weights.
*There are no weight classes, but weights will be listed in results if provided.
*Numbers must be posted by August 31, 2007 (until the stroke of midnight).

No limitations on supportive equipment - my guess is that if you are doing more than a few, equipment would just make it harder to breathe though.

Stance is up to you, but the parallel rule is iron-clad.

Prize hasn't been decided yet. Bearwolf and I put up tubs of Nitrean last time but money's going to be tight around my house for a while.

Glad to see there is another squat competition. I never got a chance to compete in the other one because I waited too long. This one I'll definitely do before the deadline. Not that I'll win, not even close, but it's cool to see how many. Even if it is only a few.

Well, I did it.

12 reps

That was after doing 3 work sets of heavy ATF squats, too. I think fresh I could do 14-15. The last 5 reps were painfully slow. I was taking 10 seconds rest with the bar on my back between reps to catch my breath and psyche myself up. One of my teammates did it after me and got 20 reps. He's a 275lb beast of a man. He's not on this board, though, so his doesn't count! I'll be trying this again before the deadline and I'll hopefully be up to 16-18 reps by then.

BTW, Sensei, nice vid! Good depth on the squats. Somehow I pictured you bald like in your avatar, though, looking like Laurence Fishburne. Ha ha!

I might try this in a pair of briefs. I have no clue what I could do. I'd acually be limited to whether or not I could keep the bar in position. It tends to move on me when I do reps.

I didn't want to do this again so soon after the 225 contest... b/c that absolutely fried me while I was bulking... and b/c I didn't think I could fit it into my schedule for competing in a PL contest in August or Sept... but, what the heck.. I'll give it a go.. so today was round one of conditioning for 315 x 25 (that's my goal)..

I am using a 2 inch foam pad on the bar (my traps complain if I don't) and a cardboard shoe box to know when I am paralell...is this ok with everyone? Not that I am gonna win

to be honest sensei i'm probably not going to beat you, but i'm going to try. But is there a way to get a video from a camcorder on the computer, if not I don't really think I can get a video unless someone on here lives in omaha NE.

when does the contest end? my mom is talking about getting a digital camera and it might make short videos.

I need to speed up my repping a bit, also. I was taking them very slowly, which wore me out quite a bit. The race to 20 is on! :D

Trust me, not having a time limit will not matter at all for most people - I can't imagine anyone squatting for much longer than 5 mins on this.

With my cutting, squatting is getting beyond intense and borderline dangerous, I will have to be dropping weight so I think I am content with my 17...:(

I think I can hit at least 20 by the deadline, considering I've done 30 off a parallel box and hit 595 to same said box. I do seem to have a harder time without the box though, I'll work at it.

I won't be able to film any attemps so I'll just add my 2 cents in.

Back when I posted about probably being able to get 20, I wasn't squatting right at all.

Since watching all the squat RX videos, and getting back into it more and more I can probably hit 15 to parallel fresh right now. My form was WAY off, and at first it made my #'s plummet.. after that though their back up and then some. Too bad I don't have a camera and 3 more months... I might be able to beat RB's 26 but I'm not going to worry about what might have been.

Guido - Its weird, my basement where I lift is actually pretty bright, and when I take the video on the camera it looks bright too, but when I put the video on the computer it turns dark. Maybe I need more background lights.

My camera does that too. It is really bright in my basement but the camera adjusts and makes it really dark. It's really annoying.

Well, back in May when this started I thought I was going to shoot for 25 reps.. unfortunately, I have a bunch of excuses (life, injuries, vacation, etc..) this summer for not getting the proper training under my belt to get that done... :mad:

But I thought after seeing Anthony's vid on Tuesday I would give it another shot... so I asked my bud Johnny to come spot me today... and after a few warm-ups... and a miscue (couple of lost 315 reps for vid setup), I busted out with 22.. there was at least 1 more in the tank today, but I had my breakfast backing up my throat - disgusting... rep 23 would have seen it all come out..:drooling:

I did them mostly raw.. a couple of neoprene knee sleeves (had some "twinges" lately).. and a velcro belt that I took ofh half way thru.. no wraps or suits... although I did use my lifting singlet, b/c all of my shorts are baggy, so you don't see breaking parallel very well.. so all that solid black is my thighs..

We had 2 cameras.. b/c my camcorder is starting to go south.. so we did 2 different angles..
here is the side view.. shows pretty good depth.. I think I broke parallel on most reps.. rep #11 might be iffy...

And just for reference.. although my legs were still feeling like Jelly, I went hiking twice this weekend... one for just short of 6 miles (both ways) and a 1200 ft change in elevation... and then an easy 5 miles today-only 400 ft change in elevation... Anthony, talk about me being your grandfather all you want... but I think that is some awesome crossfit..lol
