So was heading out to a volunteer event trying to be nice and help people out for memorial day. It was out in the middle of no where so I'm cruising along a country round in the middle of farm land. Got clocked goign 125 in a 55. So I got a 70 over ticket and reckless driving. Any advice on how to deal with this? Everyone so far is saying just to get a lawyer ASAP and let them deal with it.
What a crappy weekend.

Honestly, what else could you possibly do?

Yep. The lawyer will have a better chance of appealing to people's good natures based on your destination. Framing the case that way will probably get you a little leniency, but good luck trying it on your own.

Not trying it on my own. Doing the lawyer thing. This sucks.

Owwww, getting a reckless sucks. You can beat it, though. When I was 18 I got a reckless for 65 over in a U-Haul truck (Hahaha, man I miss my good judgement from those years). I managed to escape the ordeal with a $160 ticket and $1,000 in lawyer fees! The lawyer ended up being worth it because I got to keep my license and the charges were dropped. In my case, the trooper who pulled me over had me at gunpoint and threatened me (For speeding? wtf...) which the lawyer used against them to get the reckless driving dropped.
Good luck, man.

Think reckless is anything over 25. I could of got one but talked to the cop and he lowered the ticket to just being 20 over instead of 35. Not a lot of room to talk though when you're clocked at 125.

I'm assuming you were on a bike, right?
you better lawyer up. i've had a reckless reduced to a normal ticket at the courthouse, but i was only 23 miles over. you'll have a tough time being 70 over. good luck, bro. let us know how it turns out.

You were...going...75...freaking...miles an hour OVER the speed limit. Despite where your destination was, that's ridiculous. If you want to fight it, get a lawyer. You're going to have a really hard time fighting that, though.

A lawyer is your best bet. I had a 'similar' situation and I had to hire an attorney. Good/best of luck with everything.

I hope to god he was on a bike. Doing 125mph in a car is putting every persons life on that road in danger. You weren't even on a highway which is really dumb. I only know of about 2 or 3 country roads around here I would ever consider going that fast, and I did 130 once, when I was 18 and an idiot. I also hope you have a really fast car. The average car would take so long to get to 125mph you'd have to be completely insane to try and do it on a back road. It didn't take me too long to get there in my z28 but it was still stupid.

He does have a Evo IX if I'm not mistaken. With some modifications. I do agree with you though. That fast on a highway is not necessarily good. Especially if there were a lot of cars.

At least on a highway there's no intersections, and you have a lot of space to work with if it's a night time.

It was in the car. 125 is nothing for it. It traps 115 in the 1/4.
No intersections, just farm land on each side. Selling the car and getting a truck. I got the bikes for fun. I don't need something that makes it easy to go fast.

Amen to that.
That's one thing I love about snowmobiles and big lakes. No speed limits, and if you can avoid bob houses (ice fisherman), fissures in the ice and the jerks who plow the ice so they can drive their trucks on it, then you're good to go.
To hell with bikes, man... 125 MPH over unstable terrain with your butt inches off the ground and the wind whistling in your helmet is a rush and a half.

man I got one going 31 over near a college campus a year ago and i got away with just fees, i had a good ass lawyer.
75 over though man I think your insurance is definatly screwed, I DOUBT your license will be revoked, but if you have had other speeding tickets it probably will be, i dunno man get a lawyer talk it over. good luck, be safe.

Comon man 125? Im not all that knowledgable on how the system works, but imo your definetly losing your liscense. How much was the ticket? I got a 65 in a 55 and it was 90 bucks so I cant even begin to fathom how much 70 mph over the speed limit will be.

So far talked to a few people that had the same deal around here. Looks like about $1000 in fines and drivers school. We will see.
Utah has a 200 point system. Reckless is 80 points, speeding 30+ is 70 points, so I still have my license unless I do something else stupid in the next year.

Chit son! 70mph OVER! I have a tuff time BREAKING 70mph with a tail wind going downhill! You just need to get yourself a louder car! When I am doing 65 it sounds like the world is ending!!!!!!

Yeah, that would have been my expectation. I hit 130 in my car about two years ago. It was in the middle of nowhere with no cars in sight. Still not the brightest move on my part, but I drive a WRX, saw the opportunity and wanted to flex the car's muscle a bit. That said, I assumed if I was caught I would have participated in a reenactment of hte Rodney King video.
Of course, if you're already going 130, you're totally ****ed (though, not apparently as much as I'd thought), and part of me thinks you might as well just try to escape. I'd think you could pull off on an off ramp way ahead and hide, before they could get close enough to see where you even went.

Get a lawyer, my dads friend was clocked at 215 in a 75 he was 140 MPH OVER. Lawyer got him off scott free. Turns out that police radar dectors in his district are only good to 200 MPH. He was going 215 so they couldn't prove he was breaking the speed limit. Although he almost tripled it.
Granted he paid 2k for the lawyer.
And 125 MPH isn't that fast... At least for German standards ;)

How was he "clocked" at 215mph if the radar detectors only go up to 200mph? Based on what you said, they could prove he was going at least 200mph. Sounds like a wives tale to me.

Radar machine is only capable of clocking accurately up to 200 in that area.
He was going 215 according to the radio dector (he said that was about right)
Since the claim was he was going 215, his lawyer argued the fact that he was not speeding and that the radar dector had screwed up.
