i know im only 15 and this is a little thinking ahead of myself but i really want to grow taller. im 5' 6" but i dont know how much taller im going to grow and i want to reach 5' 10" and its my dream to be 6' lol. some guy named 7 footer or something (which im asuming is serious about being 7 foot) said he drank ALOT of milk and it helped. i dont know much about health and stuff because im just learning all this stuff but do your bones grow on calcium alone?my parents are both short is it possible to beat genetics? i want to be big enough to play college football and i dont want to be stuck as a little guy for the rest of my life. i was hoping on some foods and stuff or at least some feedback on what i should do if i can do anything (diet..)

i dont want any supplements

Your height is genetically predetermined. You can definitely stunt your growth but I don't know about increasing it.

my mom is 5'2. my dad was 5'5.

My oldest sister ended up being 5'6''.
My second oldest sister is 5'1''
My older brother is 6'1''.
I am 5'10.5''.

We are East Indian too, so naturally short people.

My brother did drink a lot more milk than I did and he was a lot more active growing up. Dont know if that makes a difference.

+1. You can stay the current height. You can be 7 feet. Only the DNA knows...

Don't worry. I was probably 5'6" or so when I was 15. I'm now 5'9", pushing 5'10". They say guys end up being about 1" taller than their father. You're dad is below average, so you'll probably be a few inches taller. It's called regression to the mean and, from what I've read, it applies to height too :)

I stopped growing around 15-16.
When i was younder I wanted 6'0" bad too.
I also drank allot of milk and still do.
my dad is 5'7" (maybe 5'8" if he stood up straighter i dont know) and my mom is about 5'3" and sister is about 5'4".
I thought i might have a chance some how genetically since my uncle is 6'0" and cousing is 6'2", but then i have another cousin that is 5'5"

but like i said i just stopped growing at 15-16 only reaching 5'8"
Now looking back if i could be any height i wanted I would now choose the height i am, I am completly happy how tall i am. God will choose your height for the best reasons, you just need to see it.
I like the fact that i fit in cars perfectly, fit my bike perfectly, dont hit my head on low ceilings or lighting fixtures. I am fast and nimble at my height and weight if i was taller i dont think i would be as much.
And in lifting weights it would be much more difficult if i was taller. I want to set some bench records and if i was taller it would be very difficult to do so (might help more if i was shorter, but i think i can do it at this height)

ALso when i was younger i like to play basketball, because of my height i knew i couldnt get to far, but it was more of a limit of skill that stopped me, though i didnt like it enough, though im not to bad just palying around, i can run quick, jump heigh (i can grap rim pretty good), its not my sport.
football playing around i was decent at to, but my school didnt have football so i didnt presue that. I ended up doing gymnasitcs which i enjoyed for a while, then found i was built for powerlifting mainly benchpressing.
I wouldnt change my height if i could now.

you just need to learn to be happy with what ever height you grow to.
look at your stats you have in your sig if there right.

Sport: Football
Freshman going on sophomore in High School
Position: Fullback
Height:5' 7"
Weight:around 160 (July 1, 2007)Goal:170
Bench:205 Goal:240
Squat:315 Goal:350
Vertical:24 1/2 Goal:25 1/2
40 Time:5.05 Goal:4.80

your fairly strong for a freshman, and quick, use your size you have now to your advantage.. In football you realy dont need to be tall anyways, if your good enough you can be any height to play well.

Both my parents are short. My dad is 5'9" and my mom, I don't even know. 5-foot-something (quite a bit shorter than my dad). But somehow I ended up being 6'2". A few of my uncles on my dads side are large though.

Umm... if "they" are right about this theory, wouldn't that make each generation keep growing by an inch?

Yeah I know. It's something I heard a long time ago and wondered how true it was. Then again, have you ever seen how low the ceilings are in some of those 19th century houses? It could be a recent thing,

Keith

The average baby grows 10 inches in the first year of its life and decreases to about 2 inches a year until age 7 and won't increase until puberty. The average growth per year in an adolescent during puberty is between 2 and 4 inches a year... I have never heard of anyone growing 6 inches in 2-3 months. You must have had trouble walking by the end of that spurt.

i went from 5'10 to 6'3" between my 7th grade and 8th grade basketball seasons. but that was a year and not months. 6 inches in a summer is amazing

well..

whens the last time uve grown, and have u noticed any "growth spurts" in your earlier years that have slowed down thru time..

Do you think your done with puberty? do a quick search on google...
________________

I personally was a late bloomer... last year (when i was just about to turn 16) i was 5'5 3/4... now 1 year later i am 5'8 1/2 and still growing (going on 17)... i think ill round out to be about 5'9-5'10 ... but who knows!

And if you are really concerned with "gaining" a couple extra inches there are ways you can do it, but it isn't through diet. If you're interested just tell me, and i can look for the link.

relax. first off, your height isn't anything you can control. so don't waste your time or energy worrying about it.

story for you. my sister whose 3 years older than me was 5' 10" in 8th grade.

when I was in 8th grade I was 5 feet tall. everyone thought I'd be a midget for life. freshman/sophomore year of high school I was 5' 4", which is what was on my drivers license up until this past month. There's a picture of me from freshman year and my sister from her senior year and she is over a head taller than me. I grew almost 6 inches beginning that summer and by the end of my senior year of high school I was 6 feet tall.

don't waste your time over things you can't control. Only worry about things you can, which is your lifts and track times.

Know inside that you can compete with anyone who you get put up against whether they are taller, bigger, or stronger than you.

dude the only think you can do is eat healthy (maybe take a daily vitamin) stay away from the drugs and alcohol and hope for the best. I'm 17 and have a feeling I'm gonna be 5'8 but it's really not that bad I can still get girls fine : ) . My dad is 5'10 and my mom is 5 foot and my 14 year old brother is 5'9 so i really think its just random.

that sucks but what do you think my chances are of getting to 5' 10"
my mom is 5'
and my dad is 5' 6"

To be painfully honest most likely you will be 5-6 5-7 but thats basing my opinion on not knowing much of your family history. It is most likely you will take the height around your dad id say anyway.BUT look into your family history you could take your grandparents height on both sides of your family.genetics as you've already said.

Titanium_Jim
06-15-2007, 10:55 AM
When I was your age, I was your height, and now I'm 6' 5 (6' 7" if you take away the remaining curve in my spine.)
I grew at least 6 inches one summer, but that was when scoliosis progressed at a rate never seen by my doctor or surgeons. So while I actually did grow, I didn't get any taller. The extra 6 inches was crumpled up in my cramped twig torso.

Then again, my dad is 6' 2, and my mom is 5' 8.

Your genetics will stop you from being a substantial bit taller than your dad, but depending on how fast/long puberty is for you, you may have the capacity to hit 5' 10. You think Every 7' 17-year old has parents who are both over 6'?

though there is a height standard in football, quite a few people have broken it. Im sure you've heard of Maurice Drew (5'7") and Warrick Dunn (5'9"). If you should be worried about anything, start trying to get that 4.3 40 :)
