first of all...why brown rice?

second...do you guys make a lot of it and then store it? because the brown rice i got at the store takes like 30 min to prepare. what else do you like to throw in your brown rice...say...if you had a chicken breast as your main entree.

The instant stuff isn't as good for you as the regular stuff. But I agree that 45 min for rice is a bit much. I do eat it when I can. Lots of times, I just nuke a sweet potato (1.5 min).

Eat it because you like it. Don't hold any illusions that it contains a significant amount of nutrients or holds any edge over white rice. The difference is negligible.

Fortified parboiled rice takes about 20 minutes and is a good substitute. Sweet potatoes are awesome, and probably one of the healthiest "quick" carb sources you can take in.

And then there's top ramen.

Try putting some seasoning in with it while it's cooking. Basil, oreganom rosemary.....just raid the spice rack and see what tastes good.

Brown rice has like... 4x the fiber of white rice... even if there were nutrients replaced in the white, brown rice is still better for you.

White bread vs whole wheat... same argument. You can enrich flour with nutrients, but you arent replacing the fiber lost, which is important.

Yeah. Another, what, 3 grams of fiber per cup. And a negligible amount of extra minerals.

Whole wheat bread has the same insignificant benefits over white bread.

Stop believing the hype.

Am i correct to assume you view the choice of sweet potatoes over regular white potatoes as the same as whole wheat over white and brown over white rice. Insignificant in the end?

To the OP, I use a rice cooker and the rice is done in 20min. That's pretty quick in my opinion.

i agree with TommyBoy, get a rice cooker, brown rice in the cooker takes a little longer than white rice- not by much and is quicker than boiling the water then cooking it in a pot
