I usually have a 1 cup skim milk , 1 cup of water, 2 scoops of ON Whey and 2 tblspoons of Honey. This comes out to 56g protein and 50 carbs. I weigh 150lbs. Should I be taking in more carbs and less protein in the shake? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

honey isn't the best thing for an after workout. it's already been discussed so i'm not going to retype it all. go here to find out why:

If you have the cals/carbs to spare, i.e. bulking, I do 1g/kg lbm of carbs and 1/3 of that in protein.

So for instance, assuming you are around ~12% bf, that would mean 60kg of lbm.

So 60g of carb and 20g of protein. Then a solid meal 1 hour later, probably 1:1 ratio in that meal.

I also like to sip on a dilute carb drink while i workout, usually a 4:1 ratio of carb:protein.

Hope that helps.

You can also read Get Built Volume 2. It outlines guidelines for PWO shake.

Wouldn't the milk slow the absorption of the shake?

Its actually better to have both casein and whey protein in your PWO shake. Thats why blends are recommended or milk and whey.

Why would it be better if you were going to eat another meal within 60 minutes. Personally I dont think it really matters either way, but if your really arguing optimal absorption timing whey isolate and dextrose are probably your best bet.

Personally I think your shake is a bit light on calories for a bulker but again, it doesnt matter nearly as much as total cals for the day. But for people having a hard time eating enough I think it helps to throw down a large number of calories in the PWO shake.
