AMAZING!
She of course still has a little girl voice beause hell shes a little girl. Her tone was incredible and her pitch...DEAD on. If you add a bit more maturity to her voice youll have a world class singer! All she needs is time.

Her timing was a little off, but other than that, she was pretty damn good.
I saw this on another board I visit from the same show and thought it was impressive as well.

The opera guy gave me goosebumps too... weird. He's awesome. It's great to see someone that completely lacks confidence to pull off a performance like that.

****ing hell. For a man with a quaking, weak voice when he speaks to belt out opera with such projection and power... almost seems like a set-up. Impressive as hell. Girl was great, don't get me wrong. But the guy, even though is voice isn't professionally trained and shows some signs of weakness on the long vibratos, has incredible potential.

Ohhh veeeery nice voice. I don't like opera at all, but that guy was amazing for someone without a professional career singing already.
Plus that damn song at the end made me teary eyed for some reason. It was in one of the very FEW movies I cried during "Armageddon" :hide:

Not pointing fingers, but I don't understand why we cry or get teary eyed watching a good performance? I can understand movies, because you get into the character, storyline, etc. But to watch a complete stranger singer for 1 minute? I don't understand. Are we overly excited or something. Really bothers me to think of why this happens. (and me included sometimes)

It's not just the performance, it's the story behind the performance; everyone loves to see the downtrodden succeed. Also, there is something special about watching someone as weak & meek as this guy belt out great opera with such strength.

Wow I got a little teary eyed watching the opera dude. I almost felt bad for him in the beginning; he was so un-confident and because he obviously has some sort of problems with his mouth/teeth and looks a little strange.

Something interesting I found:
Paul Potts, a 36 year old resident of South Wales and a mobile phone salesman, is an aspiring Opera Singer. He is a student of Ian Comboy and has an apprenticeship with Gilbert and Sullivan in Bristol.
Paul has appeared on national and local television and radio. His claim to fame is his 1999 appearance on Michael Barrymore's My Kind of Music. He has spent two summers touring Northern Italy training with one of the major opera schools, training under top teachers Mario Melani and Svetlana Sidrova, and has taken part in master classes with Vilma Vernocchi, Katia Ricciarelli and Luciano Pavarotti. He has also performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
With Bath Opera he has sung the roles of Don Basilio (Marriage of Figaro), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and the title role in Verdi's Don Carlos, and Turandot as Prince of Persia and Herald. Future plans include the role of Chevalier des Grieux (Manon Lescaut) for Southgate Opera, London, and another concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the summer. He married in May 2007.
On June 9, 2007 he took part in Simon Cowell's new search-for-a-star show "Britain's Got Talent" on ITV1 which was held in Cardiffs Millennium Center. Paul sang Giacomo Puccini's "Nessun Dorma" and wowed the judges, and received a standing ovation from the 2,000-strong audience at the Millennium Center.
Alright, so he's trained (with Pavarotti, even) and has performed several times at a fairly high level. It's not exactly a rags-to-riches type story, but might be the break he needs to do it professionally full time, which is the dream of any musician.

Ahhh, well that helps explain part of why he's so damn good.
You know, actually, while I was watching him sing that, I'll admit I had a moment of trascendent understanding and bliss, like in that second I could see the beauty of God's creation. It was surreal... I'm not even into opera, but I felt so moved by that song (and I don't even understand operatic Italian!) that I teared up and wanted to sing, too. It was beautiful.

Oh, indeed it is, and I didn't intend to take away from that. Just wanted to put it in a little bit of perspective. Normally, I don't really care about those idiotic contests, but I can relate to that guy a bit. I hope he's able to use this platform to catapult himself into being a professional singer.

I don't cry or get teary eyed, but I can certainly feel the power on an emotional level in a performance. I sometimes listen to Spanish music on the radio, and I don't speak Spanish, bit I can feel the emotion in the music. Think about the song Du Hast, and how it was popular here. Not many people in the US speak German, but a lot of people liked the aggressive nature of the song. Now if you take women, who are generally speaking more outwardly emotional than men, I can certainly understand how the judge and others got teary eyed.

I'm particularly impressed because the lady's strength is exhibited very clearly along side the man's- she's not just his prop that look cute. They're a husband & wife team.

That's exactly why, when I have children, I plan on sending them to gymnastics from an early age. The strength they can build without ever lifting a weight is unbelievable.
