Saturday June 23rd, 2007

Okay today was my first workout I will keep in the journal. I went with 2 friends to checkout a gym close to my house because working in the basement just doesn't give me everything I need. We did manage to snag 1 week passes and I liked the gym but I'm not about to pay 49 a month. Workout was much different then normal. My friends had to do all these bicep/chest workouts. Go figure. (They did have a terrible time keeping up with the squats tho and they each have easily 20lbs on me).

Squats:
105 x 5 (Could do more but Im really working on form with this)
105 x 5
105 x 5

Bench:
95 x 5 (This is up 25lbs since I started!)
95 x 5
95 x 5

BB Rows:

65 x 5 (wayyy too easy)
95 x 5
95 x 5

Hammer Curls:
25s x 5
25s x 5
25s x 5

Dips:
BW x 8
BW x 6 (not enough rest)

Did a couple other random bicep/tricep/chest things that make my arms feel like they were going to explode (not gonna lie it felt great)... pretty good day today. Need to find a better gym tho. If it was up to me I wouldnt have done most of the accessory work I did but my friends insisted.

Ill get some pictures up soon so we all know what we are dealing with here. Thanks for reading!

Bench Press:
95 x 5
95 x 5
100 x 5 (PR)

Deadlift:
140 x 5

Dips:
BW x 10 (PR)
BW x 10

Chinups:
BW x 10 (PR)
BW x 8

Hammer Curls:
25s x 10 (uhhh lol)
30s x 5
30s x 5 (honestly felt pretty easy)

Various ab workouts with BW + 25. Im gonna start adding weight to my dips and chinups as well.

Today was an amazing day for me. I got news that I passed my emt national certification test. So Im a registered emt now and my stuff is coming in the mail.

Yesterday after some research I ordered some creatine 500, and some Nitrean. And to my suprise it shipped several hours after the order on a sunday! Niceeee.

Workout wasnt bad either. Deadlifts are a pain in the ass when im stuck at my house cause the highest weight i have is 25 so i have to go extra low. Benchpress is slowing down too but I managed to get 100x5 which I had never done before. I feel like i should be doing more tho i definately have a weakness and im not 100% sure what it is. Ive got pretty good form but i think my left arm is just way weaker than my right cause it slows me way down. Might start some barbell workouts for a week or so.

Also since I try and do full body workouts I do them every other day. But I do not take a 2 day rest ever could this cause me to overtrain? Should I just be doing Mon/Wed/Fri and take 2 days off after friday or is it safe to do them every other day indefinately? I havent noticed a problem yet. Still eating fine, still sleeping fine, and my lifts are gradually going up. Thanks

Our stats are very very similar, besides age.
I started late febuary at a weight of 124, and after a couple weeks was very close to the weight u are at now. Also started with an 85 pound 1 rep max on bench.

You are moving up quickly.

whats your diet like, and do you have a set routine?

pulse
06-25-2007, 09:57 PM
Yeah i got ya beat on age there :P no big deal tho I look young. My routine is pretty much

a: squat, bench, dead
b: squat, military press, barbell rows

I throw in some accessory excercises as i feel fit. My 1rm max on the 13th was 100lbs with the bench so im way happy with hitting that mark with 5 reps today. I havent been able to stick to my routine as much as I have wanted because I dont have a gym membership yet so I have to do some workouts at my house (no squats) and some at a friends (no dips). I really need some other stuff so i can throw in better excercises to hit my weak spots.

As far as diet i try to eat small meals every few hours but I really dont worry too much about eating fat or carbs just focus on getting plenty of protein. I have a insanely fast metabolism and i could probably eat lard all day and stay about 130. Its my curse.

Military Press:
75 x 5 (PR! But i felt like i was going to drop the weight on my head)
65 x 5
65 x 5

Squat:
95 x 5
105 x 5
95 x 5 ATF

I get really sore after like the first squat on the upper inner part of my legs. I did 95 again with my feet pointed a little less outward maybe 20-30% and went as far down as possible and it felt much better. But im going to have to use a little less weight maybe to get used to it.

Bench Press:
95 x 5
115 x 1 (PR!)
115 x 5 (Negatives)
115 x 5 (Negatives)

Abs

Dips:
BW+25 x 3 (PR!)
BW+15 x 5
BW+15 x 5

Pullups:
BW x 3
BW x 3 (These are way harder than chins)

Calf Raises:
90 x 5
90 x 5
90 x a whole bunch

Bicep Curls:
55 x 5
55 x 5
55 x 5

Overall a pretty solid workout for waking up at 9:00 and getting to the gym at 9:30. I probably should go maybe an hour or 2 later so that I have time to get in a meal before I go. The gym had a dip belt which made me pretty happy. I coulda done reps of 5 probably with the 25 but I was pretty tired and shoulda eaten. Oh well there is always friday. Im gonna start pumpin out those pullups (i think they are pullups... the ones with the palms facing away from you?). Anyways my friend I go with to the gym is one of those curl monkeys who had only done upper body stuff when he used to workout so I probably did 3 different types of bicep excercises. Im trying to ween him away from that tho haha. You should see his skinny little legs try and squat.. and i brought up the word deadlift and he got scared. Friday ill show him whats up.

I want that 135! :) And no I was doing it with the ezcurl bar, which i think is 15lbs, on the other side of the room. I would have yelled at myself if i was doing curls in the power rack haha. I got my nitrean and creatine today too so im pretty pumped for tomorrows workout.. well im always pumped for it but even more now.

I would have to say dont worry about over training at this point you wont be able to over train...honestly even if you trained full body every day (not that im telling you to do that) the term is over used and when you first start your body can handel alot more then you realize it can
once you have been doing it a while you will be able to gage when your body needs an extra day off

Just go crazy :p. Just be smart about it though. When the overtraining starts, you'll know, but it shouldn't happen for a while.

Congratulations on the bench PR too, put those babies in RED, haha. Try some stretching for the squat soreness. It'll go away.

Stepto Okay thanks I was really worried about that thanks for clearing it up.

Bako Lifter I wont go tooo crazy but I might throw in a few extra visits to the gym and see how it affects me. I might put them in blue.. or green just to mix it up a little!

Also with a little input from some people I think these are the goals I want to achieve.

Short(Hopefully by August) - 205s/135b/270d
Long(Close to by 6/3/08) - 275s/200b/350d

Those dont seem to unreasonable to me.

Bicep Excercises

Thoughts:
I did more squats then I listed I just dont remember what weights I did cause I dont take paper with me to the gym I was just doing it from my head. I did get 2 new maxes but I definately shoulda have tried to max 2 different excercises on 2 different days oh well. My dips are pretty beastly (or at least I feel so) I dont know why my bench is low maybe I need to hit my back cause I think my triceps are pretty strong. I did go checkout a new gym which is only 99 for a year for students and is better than the one im using this week so ill probably go with that one they have a nice free weight room as well but no dip belt so Ill have to buy one.

way to keep moving the weights up man, you'll get to your goals before you even notice it. Great dips btw, once you get used to benching i'm sure your gains will sky rocket.

Im going to try and find a happy medium but id like to lift big weights and look bigger and better. So far my weights have gone up and since im a relatively small guy my arms/chest/legs are getting bigger so hopefully this continues.

Bicep Excercises

Thoughts:
This new gym is pretty sweet so after I use my 3 free days im going to sign up for it. Ill need to buy my own dip belt but thats no biggie. Thats also why I wasnt doing weighted dips this time. :( Woke up and went straight to the gym with no meal and just noxplode so that could account for my getting tired early. My bench is slowing down but its still going up. I think i really need to hit my back hard to get that number to keep goin up. Think some of these will work?

BW+25 x 5 (Held a dumbell with my feet. It sucked... Dip Belt? Anybody?)

Thoughts:
Not the greatest workout but pretty solid and consistant. Went to a sporting goods store before hand to try and pickup a dip belt. They had none, gay. With my squats I feel like my form is pretty good. But I do get really really sore in the inner part of my thigh. Well its not quite inner but its not quite the back of my leg and I cant tell if its my hammys or my adductors. I dont do wide stance squats so I dont understand why I would get such a sore feeling in the inner part. Im not very familiar with muscles.. so it might be my hammys lol any help is appreciated. Oh and I had been doing deads in sets of 1 so I did a set of 5 to work on controlling the weight back down to the floor hopefully that will help me in the long run.

EDIT: I did some looking around and feeling around on my legs and its on the back of my leg and towards the midline of the body its about as close to the inside of your leg as u can get without going to the inner part of the thighs. So its prob hammys.

EDIT#2: The more I think about it when I descend I think I might point my knees outward too much. Could this cause these other muscles to get sore?

BCorn Thanks! And I will

Small Ill try and find a picture because it really bothers me I might actually lay off the squats cause I feel im not making progress because of the pain that is causes. Ive been trying to stick with the same amount for a few days to work on my form. Wasnt feeling 100% today.

But on a side note Transformers was amazing.

EDIT: K here is a pic with it highlighted. It goes a little under my leg as well. Its not my leg either hahaha just one i found online.

Its everytime I do squats really. Not necessarily a pain but it gets sore enough where it almost effects my lifts. Maybe I should stay away from leg stuff for a week and see what happens?

Nice workout tiny, hittin the big 3 all in one workout .

You know the difference between good pain and bad pain right? When you first do squats, your ham/glute/quad area will be SUPER sore. Especially your ham/glutes. It's not just a "wow, my legs are really sore, must've had a good session yesterday", it's more of a "holy ****! My ass is on fire! I can't walk!".

Just take it easy, don't do your next leg session until the soreness is at least 90% gone. Unless you really think you pulled something.

Awesome workout for maxing bench last night and working 8 hours this morning on 5 hours of sleep plus drinking last night! Pulled some pullups out of my ass even tho I havent done them for a few weeks they went up from 3 to 5? Nice! Situps were cake... dips were cake... leg press was like building muscle while chillin... millies still shat on my face. Bicep curls were zzzz overall I am feeling much stronger already! :)

EDIT:
I think I can do more with my bench then I have been but it will take a few weeks I think my grip has been a little closer together then it should so I have to use way more travel then I need to ill have to get used to going a little wider but it might account for bigger numbers in the long run...

Yup before I just randomly put my hands up somewhere that looked even. I put my index fingers on the rings now. It felt really wide and awkward at first and I thought I wasnt going to be able to do as much weight but that wasnt the case.

The 135 wore me out and I was not able to go back and complete a 5th set like I wanted (didnt eat before the gym, woke up and went). Dips felt good as always, it was nice to have extra weight on there again even tho my feet had to hold them. Chins from a dead hang kicked my ass (but thats expected). Military press felt pretty easy until about the 14th rep just cause I was tired after the short pauses. It finnnnnally might go up next time! Im not going to max until close to the end of the month so my current 1RM PRs are going to get destroyed by 5RM within the next few weeks (well at least squat and bench :D ) get ready!

Thoughts:
Huge workout today reguardless of really only 1 notable PR. Squat form was very impressive today everything seemed to be clicking. Got my 1RM up 3 times. Last one wasnt quite parallel but Ill take it. Had no spotter and didnt use the power rack for the bench so there was no failing. I was totally into my bench today. I felt like I had control of every muscle individually and could do with the weight whatever I wanted. Honestly I wanted to try 115x5 but I didnt want to have to bail and roll it down my body if I messed up. Dips were easy but the 25lb db kept slipping so I just did bw for the last one and pumped out 15 easily. Tried some deadlifts but I was just way too tired. Didnt eat today before the gym (silly me). Ran out of energy after the dips. The pullups were consistant with what I have been doing even tho I was so tired that I was dizzy. I love seeing gains :D

Note to self: buy dip belt. seriouslyyyyyyyyyyy. oh yeah and eat before working out kthnx.

If you cant get it up.... just put it on the lower rung for the bench? OR better yet, ask someone in the gym to spot you for that one set???!! I wanna see this 115*5, that would be veryyy impressive!

Squats lookin good.

Nice benching.
Nice deadlifting.
Lol, next deadlift session should be awesome... maybe a 30 lb PR? Maybe more.

Maybe switch up excersises until you get a belt. CG bench or somethin?

You only have a few more weeks on this routine btw...

Bako Thanks man! I don't know if I can beat that 205 pull but Ill give it a shot. I might have to try tho kaz presses next time instead of dips those looked fun. Im curious to why I only have a few weeks left for this routine tho? If I keep getting gains like this wouldn't it be wise to stick with something that is still working?

These gains your getting are newb gains. (no offense, lol) Everybody's strength jumps leaps and bounds when they first start. You can also handle a lot more volume, ie: intense full body routines like the one your doing. But sadly, you will hit a wall soon :p. Then you'll probably want to change your routine to a 4-day split or something. Or a 5x5 if you want to stick to full body.

Yeah that was my only time Ive really deadlifted. If I go in one day and instead of doing squats I deadlift your probably right. And newb gains! Pshhh way too take me off my high horse haha. If this wall indeed is coming soon Id probably do a 5x5 or something that has squats 1 day, bench 1 day, and deads another. Plus related excercises for the squat, bench, and dead on each of those days. That possible? Im really open to suggestions here.

Flat Bench:
105x5

Deadlifts:
135x1
205x1
225x1 (+20LB PR)

Dips:
BWx15
BWx10
BWx10

Thoughts:
First of all today was a terrible workout. I drank myself ******ed last night playing beer pong. I had no stamina and was kinda off balance today. The good news is when I was pulling a powerlifting guy came up to me and helped me out on my deadlift form. Now Im very confident about my form for my big 3. I have more in me than the 225 pull too but just didnt feel it today. I know I had that 115x5 in me but I had to get spotted for the last rep so I only got 4. Im pretty pissed off at myself for drinking as much as I did before a perfectly good workout day. But the good news is I guess I did still get 2 PRs! :)

Squats felt amazing and got a huge PR today! Kept very consistant on that flat bench. Those 110s are getting easier. I think I tried to jump to 115 too early but I should get it very soon. Bodyweight is up to 140 and I havent really even been eating that good. Dips were cake. The Kaz Presses I wasnt bringing my arms down as much and more of just bending at the elbows (oops). So I should be able to do more weight + not hurt my elbows next time. Also thats just the weight I put on the smith machine. Should I add anything for the bar cause I dont think its really equivalent to 45lbs is it? Did some incline db bench out of no where and that felt good. Had the biggest pump of my lifeeee after this workout today I felt so good! All in all a very solid workout.

ps: Lots of green!

edit: added 45 to the kaz presses for the bar even tho its not right

Thanks dude. I would have rowed today but I worked an 8 hour shift before the gym and I always have this wierd pain in my back after a long shift at work. Maybe a pinched nerve or something it just gets really agrivated maybe twice a month. So no rows today :(

And on the kaz presses. Should I add any weight for the bar on the smith machine or do u just put what u add on?

Damn I WANNA GO TO THE GYM!!!! i didn't go yesterday because I threw out my shoulder using a sledgehammer on friday, i was hitting soemthing sideways and felt a strain in my left shoulder, i thought it was my rotator cuff again and i was     'in but it was just the delt, its healing pretty fast. But i dont know if i should go in today seeing as i will have work early tomorrow and will be only getting 4-6 hours of sleep. I dont know if its worth it!!

and sickk - 140!!! It felt really good to get there for me getting to 130, 135 mehh.. 140 was a whole different ball game. I dont care about gaining weight as much anymore. More concerned with strength.

Thoughts:
After getting 4 hours of sleep and working an 8 hour shift I decided to try another high intensity, complex workout. Squats felt perfect, form is still getting better. Doms is almost a thing of the past. Bench press... what to say. I felt weak putting up the 95s and the 105s and after a failed attempt at 135 I went back down to try it again. Put up the 125 and 130 like it was nothin. Had almost no trouble with the 135. I might have the 140 in me but not today. Threw in some rows for that back of mine which I have been forgetting about. Reached my first goal about 14 days early.

And I wanna see you squat 165x3x5 sets next workout. Then work on your DL form with light weight, alright? Then go ahead and do the usuall after that. Oh, and make sure you pull "through the elbow" during the DB rows. I you don't feel it in your back enough, try barbell rows (personal favorite).

Wow... how did I miss all this action? Congrats on all the PRs man!!

With you deads, speed off the floor can be caused by two reasons (I believe).

First is form... try to get some video of yourself deadlifting so we can take a look. Most people lift entirely with their back when they first start.
Second is lower body strength... have no legs to get the bar moving. I would suggest Rack Squats and pulling off of plates for these. Working on your glutes may help some too... but in general I feel those are more for the middle of the lift (rather than speed off the floor).

You have to be really proud of yourself... you've made crazy gains since you first joined!!

clvmike19
07-23-2007, 06:40 PM
If its any inspiration, I started out at 135lbs back in the day, when I was 20. I went up from there, once I got over 160lbs Ive managed to stay around or above that number. Even when I wasnt lifting on a regular basis.

So eat big and lift big. Follow those rules and you're on your way. Even if you think you're eating enough, you're not ;D

Keep at it man...

185 x 5

Military Press:
70 x 5
70 x 5
70 x 4

Tricep Pulldowns:
110 x 10

Lat Pulldowns:
100 x 10

Seated Machine Rows:
100 x 10

Pull-ups (CGPO):
BW x 5
BW x 5
BW x 4

Incline DB Bench:
35s x 5
40s x 5 (PR +5lb DBs)

Thoughts:
Had lots of stuff I did today all of it felt pretty good and pretty strong since I took an extra day off. Got the 120x5 on the bench if I wouldnt have gone for the 125 and wore myself out I would have probably been able to do a couple more sets of 5 of that. Military press was finally much more powerful 70 felt pretty easy and I did it at the end of the day. Rounded my back a little on the deadlifts so I need to be careful about that.

Bako - That wasnt the exact assortment of excercises I just wanted to throw in a bunch of stuff cause I had plenty of time at the gym and plenty of energy. Millies were last tho - I shoulda had those way earlier. I try to get the big compounds out of the way first but I honestly like threw day A and B together for today haha. Im sure my body will hate me tomorrow.

Herandi - My body hurtssss today haha. I not getting too big i have some huge hereditary things to overcome but compared to what i was.. yes. Giant lol

Edit: Oh yeah 143lbs today. I havent been getting enough calories for a huge bulk but it looks like im getting enough protein/cals to still build a little muscle so thats good.

Another one of those wake up dont eat go to the gym im running out of time kinda things. Way tired and sore from the other day still. Bench was still solid but thats about all the energy I had in me today. Look for pullup PR next time. Squatting in the morning makes my legs sore - no idea why but thats definately what it is. Might take a few days off and get back in routine. I got a good 6 or so workouts before my teeth are pulled on the 15th. 1 more deadlift day to get my goal. Probably wont get it but hopefully a decent pr! And herandi I say hereditary because there is not one of my uncles, parents, or grandparents that I know of that are even remotely built or naturally strong. So Im going to have to work twice as hard to get it. Maybe its in my genes but no1 else has even tried it. Not a good day for workin out. Mentally and physically im worn out.

Redfury - Thanks! I hate waking up and going I know I need to eat before but I just love my sleep too much to wake up early!

EDIT: Also I took my phone and had a friend record me doing dips and bench press and I must admit I look pretty baller. But in all seriousness my bench looks extremely controlled like its on a track almost. I was pretty impressed it looked so good. Not much of an arch and you can see a little leg drive so I have a few things I can work on. But it was pretty cool to see myself haha. I need a camera! Im heading to the gym in about an hour and a half - today is the day. Gotta pull that 270. I dont think I have it in me, but I have confidence that Im pulling more than 225! Its the 31st last day to hit my goals... Im going to be doing. Deadlift (Instead of Squats), Military Press, and some barbell rows. Expecting PRs I feel pretty good today both mentally and physically. Didnt get much sleep but I wont let that get me down. Thoughts:
Umm I got a pr in every lift? One of my better workouts for a while. Went alone, and stuck to my routine pretty well. The 165 deadlift was off the ground and almost to my knees but I just couldnt finish it off. Millies were pretty good didnt wait long enough between sets with the 80lb but still got 3. I use absolutely 0 leg drive and just muscle them up. Thats good rightttttt? On the rows I have a question. My form is pretty good, not much to it, but I cant decide if palms out or in is better. I tried both and really didnt notice much of a difference at all. After the 265 dead it was pretty hard to grip anything considering I broke open 5 (yes 5) calluses. At one point during my dips I noticed there was like 5 people watching me. It was pretty funny actually. I had great rom and went down as far as I could go this time. Alright now for the bad news. I weighed 140 today? Bako Im starting the twinkie diet.. end of story. Im going to get ****housed tonight. :D

Also - no more maxing for me until I am repping my current maxes. So dont expect much in the ways of PRs for a while. But I came ready to play tonight so these should last a while.

Wow , awesome workout pulse.

On the rows, I don't think it matters. I do overhand. Just don't use a mixed grip.... I'm sure that's common sense though ;).

Today's mini muffin day, but you probably already missed it. Just get the ding dongs ready for tomorrow.

And on the deadlifts.... If you want a huge PR, you gotta set yourself up for a huge PR. With deadlifts, you can only hope for one, maybe two solid pulls. After that, you're done. Deadlifts are ghey like that. And the fact that you stalled right below your knees really shows that you were to burned out. You got it next time, just remember to set yourself up right.

And did I mention that was an awesome workout?

That was an awesome workout .

No spotter again today so I took it pretty easy. Still a little tired from the other day. Bodyweight back up to a solid 143 after a trip to the bathroom. I threw in a bunch of 135 squats to work on speed and coming up was like an explosion. I really felt it in my glutes and hammies today. The 155x1 in my 4th set has a little story behind it. I was standing next to the personal trainer and 2 other guys. One of the guys ripped the worst fart ive ever smelled and it hit me right when I got to the bottom and it almost knocked me over (not even kidding). The personal trainer made a joke and was like you guys almost hurt that guy! To the guy who farted lol. Anyways the 115x5x5 bench was solid and easy. Bodyweight dips felt like nothing. Seriously after 15 I was just bored. Back felt wayyyyy stronger with the pullups. Finally! No deadlift today my hands are still a little ripped open and im tired from tuesday. Solid day overall im happy about it.

Hit the gym again today hopefully that doesnt overtrain anything. Im taking the weekend off for much needed rest. I originally was going to do more deads then I did today but my glutes/hammies are killing me from this week. Thats all I could pull off. When I started bench my chest was a little sore so I decided I was going to try a little something different. Really pulled off some good benching today I feel like that 135x5 could come before I get my teeth pulled! Squats were all parallel if not further. They felt strong. Gonna use this as a base to work from. Used my brain and lowered the spotter bar 1 hole and now I dont have to worry about hitting it if I go too low. Bench press was stronger than ever. I decided to be like everyone else and try sumo deadlifts. I think my strength was a little less just cause I had never done them. I really just wanted to get a feel for them at current weights I had already mastered. Lockout = lol. Pullups felt strong as hell might up the reps a little bit before I add weight. Dips were mediocre cause of my bench I would guess. I might take those out on bench days to be sure not to put too much stress on my triceps. Awesome workout! :)

Sweet! I love music too. I got a Pioneer TSW 500w or something in my Honda (wich is no longer in commission) plus some Jensen speakers and an LA Amp, and it sounds pretty nice! Not that 'bassy' but it's good enough for me.

Their in your truck? Where at? Under the seats or what? I'm thinking about taking the Hondas and putting it in the truck I drive now (97 dodge ram 1500 v8 magnum ext. cab short box) and the speakers. Mines a full size so it might be different but how'd you do it?

I have a extended cab so I have quite a bit of room to work with but i got it in a truck box with the amp on the back and I just put it behind the passenger seat. I didnt want the constant massage feeling. But the kid who installed it for me has 2 12s in his truck thats not extended cab so its definately possible. I think the key is a nice small truck box for it. I make sure that the seat is back pretty far so there is still space for it to move some air but so the sound bounces off the seat.

I just have a basic kenwood head-unit and i upgraded my stock speakers with JL audios. Pretty sure its a 600w amp as well. Nothing too spectacular but it sounds great in my little truck. Id say move that stuff to the truck - no use it just having it sit and collect dust!

Herandi - Thanks man. The dips were always one of my favorite excercises for some reason. Maybe Im gifted in the tricep department because my chest certainly is not. When I bench you can tell when they kick in its funny **** how it explodes about half way up.
Jed - Yeah dude keep me updated on how it goes. Mine gave my friend a headache hahaha.
Kong - Thanks man - thanks for stopping in as well! I wish I would have started a little earlier but better late than never!

Workout B + Bench

Squats:
135 x 3
185 x 2 (weak today... actually it could be because im going lower than normal your guess is as good as mine)
175 x 3
175 x 3
135 x 10 (just to see what I could do)

Flat BB Bench:
115 x 5
125 x 5
130 x 4
145 x 1 (PR +5lbs)
130 x 4
125 x 5
115 x 5

Military Press:
70 x 5
80 x 3
70 x 5

Seated Cable Rows:
110 x 5
120 x 5 (PR +10lb i think)
120 x 5

Pullups:
BW x 5
BW x 4
BW x 5

Thoughts:
For squats I couldnt remember if I did 165 or 185 last week but it looks like 165. I wish I woulda remembered because the 175 working sets felt good. Im going to try and move up every 2 days and get more in a set routine as I have been lately. Accidentally (hehe) got a new bench max... but im kinda upset that I couldnt put up the 130x5 so im going to do another day of 125s and hopefully that will do it for me. I did millies, rows, and pullups all after eachother like m/r/p/m/r/p/m/r/p. They all felt strong tho!

BTW: I hate to talk trash but the kid squatting next to me looked like someone I just wouldnt get along with... well he was doing like the same weights as me but not even going close to parallel. God it was bad.. and he used the little pad so the barbell didnt hurt him.. thats cute.

HAHA. Sounds like me on my FIRST week of squatting.
I didn't do full squats tho just becuase i couldn't tell i wasn't going low enough ahahah

Seriosuly tho whats your secret pulse 145*1! Thats my september goal, and u hit it a month earlier than i will!!! :swear:
For your bench sets (7) thats alot. lol. How long did u break in between each set? And did your chest feel alot better after so much volume?

pulse

Bako - Why I oughta! But seriously.. lol And I wont have gone up by the 15th i get to go visit the oral surgeon. :(

Supr - Well the 115s were cake so they are kinda my warmup/cooldown. The other 5 are my working set but normally I would have only done 5 total, just was feeling good today. Between sets I just take enough time for my spotter to pump out 5 reps and change weight back and forth (he does a little more than me). My chest can normally put up with the high volume pretty easily.

Kong - LOL man if my gym was like that i dont know if i could workout there. Just 1 or 2 pisses me off - but a whole gym full?

Workout A

Squats:
135 x 3
185 x 3
155 x 5
135 x 5
(ill explain later)

Flat BB Bench:
125 x 5
125 x 5
125 x 5
125 x 5 (paused a few reps :D )
125 x 5

Rack Pulls (lowest pin I could find ~ knee level):
225 x 1
225 x 1
225 x 1
315 x 1
315 x 1

Thoughts:
For the squats Im converting back over to sets of 5 I feel as if my body adapts better to the 5 sets than the 3 and my gains should follow. 155x5 felt decent so I can move up slowly from there. Bench press was amazing today, not much to say about that. Hopefully I dont loose much strength on my few days off for my teeth. I didnt do straight up deadlifts today I did rack pulls instead. I put them on the lowest thing I could on the power rack. I didnt realize how much more power I had at that height then off the floor. I put on 315 jokingly with my friend.. and it flew right up. He was so amazed he wanted to record it on his phone and I pulled it again but my hand ripped open at the top and I ended up bleeding all over the place. It looks pretty sweet. No bako im not complaining this time either! Haha

Workout A / Millies Instead of Deads

Squats:
165 x 5
165 x 5
165 x 5

Flat BB Bench:
125 x 5
130 x 5 (PR +1R)
135 x 5 (PR +3R)
135 x 4
130 x 4

Standing BB Military Press:
65 x 5
75 x 5
75 x 5

Pullups:
BW x 7 (PR!)

Thoughts:
Squats felt fantastic I had to go down about 20lbs for the 5 reps instead of the 3 but I like these better. Still 165 isnt anything to be ashamed about.. I have noticed Ive been going to parallel or even close to ATF most of the time now too. Bench press... what to say about you. I really really wanted the 1pps today and I warmed up with 125 and it felt pretty easy. Busted out 5 of the 130 fairly easy as well. Got set up for the 135x5 and booooom got it! Finally! It felt so good.. after that I could only get 4 and then with the 130 I pussed out and didnt finish off the 5th. Threw in the millies instead of deads (grip reasons). Did more pullups than ever before but I ripped open my hand a little again. Good thing it gets a few days to repair. Chalk anyone?

Work was done today! :D

Kong - Thanks man, I dont know when Ill try it out Im still seeing huge gains with my current - why fix something that isnt broken? *knocks on wood*

cocoa - Thanks man. I had even more in me for the pullups but that thing on my hand is brutal. I wish I could take a picture of it but my phone (my only camera) isnt sending mms messages for some reason.

redfury - Thanks - means a lot comin from you man

herandi - Heck yes! You still got some poundage on me - I might just have to work harder now.

Im getting my teeth pulled tomorrow at 830am so no time for a quick workout and I dont want to do anything tonight. Im hoping I can be back in the gym on friday but if not saturday.

Couple questions for my few readers.. Is there any way to maintain my strength when Im taking a few extra days off or should it stay about the same if I eat right? Its barely a week. Oh and are you not supposed to lift heavy with the stitches still in your mouth cause you will get dry sockets or w/e?

SupRsmall
08-14-2007, 07:23 PM

About the "time off" yeah you should be fine as long as you get adaquate rest and nutrition. Taking a week off can actually be a good thing gets your body entirely healed up and fresh, alot of people do it.

Oral Surgeon

Wisdom Teeth:
-4

Vicodin:
+ A LOT (PR Lolz)

Thoughts:
Well they gave me the generic hydrocodone but it still works magic. I thought this would be funny to post in my workout format. I probably can do some kinda DE workout friday if Im feeling better. I didnt get stitches either... wierd huh.

Kong

Detard
08-17-2007, 06:45 PM
How did you not get stitches?! I already have had 2 of my stitches rip out. I have 2 flaps of skin moving around in the back of my mouth, really annoying!

Anyways, how did you find the surgery? I dont remember ANY of it. Only when they put the clamp in my mouth to keep my jaw open. The drugs were sweet eh? I was trippin so hard in the recovery room. I'm hoping to get in a DE workout tomorrow morning. They said no lifting for a week because the pressure will cause bleeding but I figure a DE workout should be fine.

pulse
08-17-2007, 08:58 PM
Kong - Im not so sure about that one haha!

Detard - I dont know the surgeon doesnt do stitches anymore I dont think. I stopped taking my pain meds today and I ate 3 slices of pizza pretty easily. I am feeling pretty good. Not really bleeding or anything right now :D. The surgery went like this...

They put an IV in my hand.
Doc "This is going to make you really tired"
Assistant "Bite down on this for me please"
Me "Is my arm supposed to burn?"
Assistant "Yeah thats normal"
....
I wake up. Haha.

The anesthesia was amazing and my face was numb the whole next day. It was pretty cool. I might be doing a workout tomorrow or sunday for sure. It sounds like urs is a little worse than mine. I had 4 taken out and 2 were impacted I think.

Kong
08-18-2007, 01:08 AM

165 x 5

Flat BB Bench:

Weighted Pullups:

My squat strength felt just as strong as before I have more than 165x5 in me for sure they went up pretty fast except for the last few. Bench got hit pretty hard over the week I was off. But Im confident I can get the 135x5 again this week for sure. Weighted dips I took pretty easy they felt strong. Added weight to my pullups finally. Ill have wings in no time! Workout was pretty good I would say Im about 90% today fridays bench should be fun! Ohhh and I started the post workout shake, but my parents ate all my ice cream so it was just milk, protein, and peanut butter. Came out to something around ~ 800 cals, and 80 grams of protein. Its not too bad either! Im back! Hope you guys are ready for this bulk.

My first day was awesome. Basically we get our bunker gear on friday and pt starts tomorrow morning. Physical training is 4 hours every mon/wed/fri so Im going to be pretty worn out at first. I know the first day of it they are going to try and get us to drop out. There is a puke bucket that goes around and whoever pukes signs the bucket and holds it until someone else does. I have to hydrate tonight cause tomorrow they are going to bust our asses. No gym tonight either. Its a paramilitary class so its yes sir/no sir walk single file. Using the buddy system, you cant go anywhere alone. When an instructor goes thru the halls you have to stand up against the wall and address them. Its actually really sweet. Had to cut my hair and we wear uniforms but they look really cool. I went out for lunch on our hour and a half break and the 2 people I saw treated me with so much more respect than I have ever been treated before. My friend went into the gas station and they didnt even make him pay for his drink. Anyways its really hands on and this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0CS1TCL_9c is a video of the class 3 semesters ago FA-10 and im in FA-13. This is the propane burn that they do near the end of the year. Its just one of the many scenarios we have to do. :)

Okay I have DOMS from hell from PT the other day. My abs hurt so bad that when I laugh or sneeze I have to like grab my stomach in pain. My entire body feels like it got hit by a truck. BUT my 225 and 315 rack pulls were jokes. They went up without any trouble. The 335 wasnt bad but my grip was slipping. Im ready for a huge deadlift day. The squats were so fast that the bar was bouncing at the top. Im way too tired right now.. taking the weekend off. (btw i think doing easily over 100 pushups yesterday proooobably hurt my bench but im maintaining 140 so i might still try and bulk)

lol... (is there weight on there). 135*5 is still a challenge for me!!

Our benches should be relitively close now. A good spot for us to do the competition again! I need some more motivation i seem have lost alot my desire to workout.

Nice to see you're getting back into things.

Thanks for the support guys Im really trying to get back into the groove of things. We start hazardous materials training wednesday and that goes for a little over a week and we are not doing physical training so I have a little time to bulk up. Ill set some basic goals for me.

By October:
Squat: 205x5 Currently: 185x5
Bench: 135x5 (again...) Currently: 115x5
Deadlift: 300x1 Currently: 275x1

:)

Monday, September 17, 2007

Squats:
155x5
185x5
190x5 PR!
155x5

Flat BB Bench:
115x5
120x5
120x4
125x3
(no spotter so i didnt push myself as hard as i could)

Rack Pulls:
225x1
275x1
225x5

Misc Tri and Back work...

Thoughts:
Squats and bench are goin up gotta keep it steady. I was tired today too we had the harded physical training today yet. Imagine 5 laps, lunges, bear crawls, wheelbarrows, 5 more laps, rinse and repeat... for a total of 20 laps no breaks. Took about an hour. My legs felt nothing after about 15 laps and 3 sets of lunges back and forth.

yeah thats what i was thinking, you'd prob max out at least 230/240 now. Im going for at least 210x5 squats on tomorrow, i gotta keep one step ahead ;). But really great improvement pulse nice work.

I dunno if I could get a 230 perfectly parallel but i could do it ez 3 quarters but I cant cheat myself.

Flat BB Bench:
120x5
125x4
120x5
120x5
120x4

Weighted Dips:
BW+45x5
BW+50x5
BW+50x5

Incline Dumbell Bench:
40x5
40x5
40x5
40x4 (jello arms)

Squats:
155x5
175x5
185x5
190x3
195x3 (PR +2R)

Pullups:
BWx5
BWx5
BW+10x4 (Probably a PR)

Thoughts:
Bench is slowly building back up, thank god! Dips felt like they are about back to normal as well. Tossed in incline dumbell for fun - my arms were jiggling like jello near the end. I can do 50s at least if im not so worn out. Squats were solid. Every single one was parallel and had quite a bit of power, no stalls. Didnt want to push myself too much tho with the squats so I stopped there (honestly I think I coulda got 200x3... maybe even 5). Did some pullups at the end expecting to be too dead to do any. I was getting my chest up and over the bar everytime - they felt crazy strong. That is all... :)

Also Status Update:

Squat: 205x5 / 190x5 (15)

Incline DB Bench:
40 x 5
45 x 5
50 x 3 (PR+10lb?)
45 x 4
40 x 5

Weighted Dips:
BW+45 x 5
BW+50 x 5
BW+45 x 5
BW+45 x 5

Squats:
155 x 5
185 x 5
200 x 5 (PR+4R)
155 x 5

Pullups:
BW+10 x 5 (PR+1R)
BW x 5
BW x 5

Thoughts:
First time Ive seriously taken a shot at the dumbbells. My left arm is a little weaker then my right so I couldnt get that 50 up all the way with that arm so I stopped. Might hit those a little bit more frequently to get them down. Dont expect to see 45lb dips anymore.. if ya get what im sayin ;). Squats were a-mazing. Form on the 155 and 185 is damn near perfect. The 200 was pretty good as well but that last one was a struggle out of the bottom. Pullups were solid even tho my whole body was dead after those squats.

Bako - Thanks man. I found strengthening up the abs is definately the key to putting up the big numbers. Or at least one of the many... Ill figure out all the tricks sooner or later :).

Supr - No worries man I must just be gifted in the way of the squat or something... as far as benching goes - definately not the case. Grrr I need to work on my pullups now! Cant let ya beat me ;)

Herandi - Thanks man, gotta try and catch ya! haha

Back in the Groove?.. Almost

Flat BB Bench:
120 x 5
125 x 5
130 x 5
125 x 5
125 x 4

Weighted Dips:
BW+45 x 5
BW+50 x 5

Squats:
155 x 5
175 x 5
195 x 3

Rack Pulls:

315 x 1
365 x 1/2? :(
225 x 5

Pullups:
BW x 5
BW+10 x 5
BW x 5

Thoughts:
Bench is almost back to where it was several weeks ago, it's going to feel good to be up to 135 for reps again hopefully this week. Dips PR, saw that coming, last one was about 15 seconds but I didnt give up. Took it easy on the squats, watched my depth, and made sure to explode. Wasnt going to do rack pulls but there was these 2 kids over there repping 135 on the squats that easily had me by 20/30lbs of bodyweight so I decided to show them what I was made of... I could see them watching me in the mirror as I got ready. The 365 was about half way and started slipping so I put it down - damnnnnnnnn. Great overall workout. Im very pleased!

Oh yeah... and a solid 143 bodyweight after 2 nasty trips to the restroom. Hopefully I can push close to 150 by the time I start physical training again in a month. Easily over 3000 cals today so far!

Squat: 205x5 / 200x5 (5)
Bench: 135x5 / 130x5 (5)
Dead: 225x5 / 245x5 (20)

3 Workouts to Go!

I changed my Deadlift to a x5 because I normally only do 1 pull. Im assuming I am at 225x5 right now even though I have pulled a 275 which is according to the 1RM calc 245x5. So I set my goal to 245x5. I figure thats a little more fair to myself for now since Im only getting 1 real pulling day in before October. 300 off the ground right now doesnt seem viable...

or does it?
