Word on that .
Did you play in front of all those people? What was the band name?
I hope you two are kidding.......but I doubt it.
That's Darrell Dimebag Abbott of Pantera. He was murdered on stage 3 years ago. He's sorely missed, as is the music he never got to make.....
I hope those were jokes also. Hard to believe it's already been 3 years.
I suppose I should also add that 27 years ago today, John Lennon was shot and killed.
I believe they thought it was you (Viking) that was my first thought.
Not being ignorant, but how was he killed on stage? what happened?
RIP Darrell :(
Wow... It REALLY does not feel like its been 3 years since his passing.
Time goes too fast :(
I'm not the hugest Pantera fan, but I do remember seeing that in the paper. I'll say a prayer for him and his family.
Wow it does seem a lot less time than 3 years. RIP indeed. Not my type of music but a great player...especially for not knowing theory...nontheless.
Dimebag was one guitarist who got me into harder stuff
I'm surprised at this thread....I'm almost positive someone else started a "RIP Dimebag thread" back when he died.
Check that: http://www.wannabebigforums.com/show...hlight=Dimebag
Anyway, I lost my "Big 3" entertainment figures that year: Marlon Brando (Jor-El), Christopher Reeve (Kal-El), and Dimebag. Un-*****ing-believeable.
I teared-up that morning while listening to Howard Stern (still on FM radio) announce it. I was sad for quite a few days after that. It DID cause me to identify more Pantera tunes that rocked.
The guy was an original. He took the best of Edward Van Halen, the best of Randy Rhodes, made it HIS OWN style, and proceeded to destroy the world of post-grunge guitar. He was buried in a KISS casket with Edward's Van Halen II guitar, the black one with the yellow stripes.
I miss that dude, and want to cry just seeing his photo.
I have to say, if you check that original thread, you'll find some real angry emotion in there.
