Post ACL Surgery Rehab
Tore my ACL, medial maniscus and level 1 sprained my MCL back in August playing basketball.
Had surgery September 10th to reconstruct my ACL (using an anterior tibialus tendon allograft) and clean off my maniscus, and have doing rehab since (starting 1.5 days after surgery, ug).
Currently my routine consists of :
Everday: stepper, eliptical, stationary bike, stretching, extension/flexion training
3/4 times a week: lunges, light weight squats, leg curls/extensions, leg press, durband training(around knees or ankles), stability training(1 leg stands, squats on half sphere ,etc.)
I just started doing an upper body routine again (yesterday), working chest/bis tues, back/tris thurs and shoulders thrown in there somewhere
Anyway, to my questions:
Does anyone know of good resources for 3-6 month ACL reconstruction rehab procedures and goals? My surgeon as of last Friday, said what I was doing was good, and that I should just add in the extensions. But I want more!
Does anyone have personal experience with such an injury?

EDIT: EXTENSIONS...are you ****ing kidding me!? Stop doing those UNLESS you're only doing the last 25-30 degrees of the movement and even then I wouldn't advise them this early on.

Surgeon told me to add extensions - remember I am post 3 months out of surgery - what is your reasoning or resource?

And if you haven't, then fail.
According to Quick Reference to Physical Therapy (Pauls, J.A. & Reed, K.L., 2004).. 12-24 weeks post-op should consist of "Increase closed kinematic chain exercise, agility, and functional activities, such as running, jumping and cutting, as tolerated. Consider functional brace for sports or work." It also says to have a physiotherapist work along with your surgeon to work with you in the recovery process, and if you don't already have one, you should probably get that taken care of. If you have one, then listen to them and don't ask people online.

my insurance allowed 40 visits
4 weeks pre surgery + 2 months post ran that dry
since then I have been doing it on my own, with my surgeons suggestions and my own research as guidance
aside from that - I was looking for users past experience w/ the injury - but really though, thanks so much for the help....
I'm assuming that is not in reference to my post?

I googled "leg extensions after acl repair" and easily found 5+ resources saying to avoid them at all costs. Even with no knee problems, that lift puts a large amount of torque directly on the knee joint. I would avoid it at all costs unless you limit the range of motion to the last 25 degrees as previously stated.

You obviously already saw a PT for as long as it was possible for you to do so, insurance is going to be the primary limiting factor but hopefully he/she should have given you what to do/not to do over the next few months and what to expect.
There is lots of research out there on leg extensions NONE OF IT IS DIFINITIVE. And the fact that that article only included 8 of the many pretty much discredits it as completely one-sided, not to mention the complete bias of a company who's finincial success is determined by the use of extension machines. That being said I use extensions all the time, lol. Regardless, I still wouldnt include extensions at this point in your recovery simply because there are better options. Especially at this point in your recovery. 3-6 months is when your function is improving drastically, pain is decreasing but the graft is the WEAKEST. So be carefull it's very common for people to have a problem at this point. Hamstring strength is vital to stabilizing the tibia, looks like you could add some hammy work.
I already do curls and sldls(slight knee bend)- discounting the anaerobic work it gets, along with the indirect stimuli it recieves
Oh the last thing i forgot to add is the reason people are such dicks to you as exhibited in this thread is that your a total douche. Try not to act like such a pompous tween spoiled know it all and you wouldnt get such negative responses.

i cant remember what ligament it was that Victor Martinez tore in his knee...but i know that he is curently not doing full range of motion leg extensions. he says that it is too dangerous with his surgery and he is almost a year post injury. he talks about it in last months md.
i have had several knee operations on both knees and I dont go anywhere near a full leg extension. havent for years. i tore the whole knee muscle in half so mine was a little more complicated then just a ligament tear
