grandfather mountain games b class
weather was almost perfect and i must admit it was pretty freakin sweet throwing on top of a mountain. had myself, hondo, butch, kyle, nate and trinity competing. i was hoping to at least make the top 10. the grass on the field was dead, dusty and matted down which caused a lot of problems for me footing wise. i felt like i was skating on ice all day
20lb open stone (clachnheart? sp?)
31'ish 2 inches behind 1st place - falling all over myself
56 dist 1 spin
23'10ish 1st place - around a 20 inch pr. watched videos of vierra and craig and had one short practice session trying to imitate a low starting position the day before and it worked great as i could actually use my hips! can't wait to actually use it without sliding around.
28 dist 1 spin
41'ish - absolutely **** my pants on this event. i was sliding even worse on this and couldn't recover. any amount of speed i could gain would throw me everywhere. the shortest i've ever thrown on this in competition, super disappointed and a bit embarassed
58'ish - both feet sliding and coming up the whole time. bummed again
50deg 3rd - just still suck at this, no one got a turn on this caber. 100lbs and 18 or 19ft (i think)
56 over bar
11' no misses 1st place - started waiting on the weight to start down before i pulled and it felt so much better. thanks to the 100 people who have told me that already *doh*
only had the WOB towers so we started at 16 ft and went up in 6inch increments with no passes. went all the way up to 20'6 with only 1 miss out of 9 separate heights and was 2nd. was then suggested we stand 25ft away and go more for accuracy and i got dropped to a tie for 3rd.
overall finish was 2nd to nate and he was certainly the better thrower today, but i can't help but feel like i beat myself. cleats and blades soon! no more of this falling all over myself crap.
raw to 325x3
briefs to 605x1
suit straps down
805x2.87 started losing balance about 3in before lockout and dumped. really needed more people spotting on this one
few accessory sets and done
Nice 805 double!!
raw to 275x2
365x2 didn't move much
405x2 lil better
475x1 hovered at 2b height
500x2 sloppy but easy
585x2 heavy but moved easy
joints were killed, took it easy on accessory. seems to be the case a lot
got some good advice from my last video so tried to work on them today. also threw with cleats for the first time today on the weights.
punches (braemar style)
most in 33'-34' range
add in the shuffle
most at 35' - still need to finish more forward over the trig
1 spin - 3 around 23'
2 spin - 1 at 24 but i fell down a lot because i blocked myself off a lot.
will need to start at the back of the box for this. was starting about a foot and a half up from the back line and i was landing on the trig mock up.
all 2 spins - 2 were between 49-50 feet others i blocked off or fell down. promising though!
just need more throws to get used to hitting positions in the right way and finishing turns.
a good bit dehydrated and had a pretty nice tweak in my adductor longus from throwing 24 hours before. back was feeling the throws a lot too.
raw all the way up to ............ 145!
briefs to 555x1
suit on straps down
855x2 moved well but wasn't super stable, probably a hair high too. back and adductor were culprits here
955x1 only about halfway straps were too tight and just didn't want to put my spotters in a bad spot.
real light accessory
feeling really beat up but i think it's more from outside training stress. gotta build a bridge and get the hell over it.
i ate 2 egg sandwhiches today
raw to 315
455x1 touched and pressed real perty like
500 x2 2b then switched to 1b
5252b x1 missed 1b at lockout. egg sandwhich ran out on me
light tri accessory and upper back
stone put practice
Huge squats, really good to hit big numbers while feeling beat up.
did a few semi suited pulls with just the canvas suit
up to 605x1 off the floor easy and fast
weight on 3in blocks
705 stuck right at knee but pulled the immortal hell out of it trying to get above my knee but just didn't happen. do feel like i'll get this at the pro am
real humid in the gym today
raw to 235
briefs to 555x1
suit straps down
865x1 deepth and popped up well
955x1 partial 3-4" high. wanted a double but mono person swung hooks in by mistake and hit the bar which about sent me backwards pretty fast.
did figure out something after this mediocre workout at least, a less strenuous and time consuming way to get out of my canvas suit.
close leg press
cramps 1x a couple minutes
Very solid squat numbers!!
How much difference would you say you squat straps down vs up?
pretty beat up currently especially in the forearm region. both of them are hurting a good bit when gripping things with any real effort. laura told me tonight that it could actually be the same thing as shin splints but in the sheath of the radius and ulna instead. never heard of that before.
raw dog up to 315x2
475x2 1b then touch both pressed well
cut off there to try and heal up, throwing some ice on them.
real easy recovery work
She may be right about the forearm pain. If the periosteum around the bone gets inflamed it can be painful. Plus everything in the forearm is surrounded by layers of tough connective tissue and fascia. Thus even a little inflammation and swelling compresses everything in that particular tissue layer since their isn't much room for expansion. I think it's just one of the things you have to deal with when lifting with equipment since it forces you to hold, support, and grip loads that you wouldn't have to handle as a raw lifter. Ice, rest, and occasional meds are about all you can do.
long day at work washing and bleaching decks but very glad to have work right now. came in pretty low on energy but it turned around well. energy drink aided that
3in block pulls
easy singles up to 425x1
briefs on to keep feeling what i feel when i hit the right spot in my suit. didn't really do anything i don't think.
515x3 hook grip
565x3 first was hook then switched
605x3 last 2 were getting tough, could tell i was tired
no accessory, wiped out.

Hey bud, some strong as numbers in here. do you compete? what weight class? your squat is crazy strong. I like your way off getting out of suit. (haha that's classic) good luck and keep up the big numbers
thanks man, i do. multi ply in the 198/181's
last real heavy one before ohio
raw to 415x1
suit strpas down
865x1 deep and smooth like butta!
955x2 stopped at 2 inches high and had to hold it 5 seconds between reps because of a guy swinging the hooks in too early. felt great
You look set for a squat PR, 955 x2 is great 2" high or not.
catch up post
haven't had any internet at my house so haven't posted in a while.
ME bench last week
up to 500x1 touched and pressed well
went down to greenville nc to see the guys at east carolina barbell and had a blast
squats in briefs walked out with a normal texas power bar
up to 725x1
deadlifts in briefs
up to 585x1 real easy
14lb elongated weight throw
5 or so throws with eric johann and thor pointing out how i suck.
last shirt day before pro-am
up to 335x1 raw
up to 475x1 touched and pressed fast and easy
throwing on saturday
very happy with today
open stone, had some very good braemar style throws in the mid 30's. throw in the glide and i'm doing about the same with less consistency. still not finishing over the trig on the glide.
got a few doubles on this but never had one finish opened up. wasn't falling over myself though.
the work with the long 14 obviously did something. threw 3 or 4 in the mid 50's which is about 5-8 feet longer than normal. yay!
took a few spins and had one good one graze the bottom of a 13 ft line. encouraging
had some great throws with this, around 25 feet. longer swing style and actually using my legs helps.
using cleats was amazing with this, all throws were in the 60-70 range. crazy how keeping your feet on the ground helps throw.
SSB squat up to 335 2x5 in the uno ply
bench up to 185x3 in the nude with random other light pumpage. bi's are now large and in charge so turkey's beware.
powerstation pro-am 2010 meet results
ended up bombing in the bench which is a pr for me, first bomb out in 3 years so i guess i was due. the previous 2 nights i had a tough time sleeping for various reasons, never felt like i was able to recover from the drive up here and i handled a friend all day friday when i should have been resting up.
lesson learned: sometimes you have to put yourself first, especially on a pro meet weekend.
all warm up s felt fine until my last one at 800 straps down, got a lil shaky.
1st 865 miss - set up too narrow and was generally weak out of the bottom
2nd 865 good - went a lil slower than it should but didn't kill me
3rd 900 miss - piss weak
all warm ups were solid
1st 485 miss - went back over face too fast
2nd 485 miss - pressed but got called for butt coming up
3rd 485 miss - just out of gas
nobody to blame but myself, had extremely high caliber lifters brian, adam, clint and mark helping me and they did all they could for me but it just didn't happen for me today. now for off season training and to have fun throwing!
