Ya, I just kip from the start to save energy.
Ya, I just kip from the start to save energy.
Question for you folks who are still in the game. I've lost some of my lifting intellect over the years...
If I were to lift only bodyweight on a schedule like MON-TUES-REST/WED-THURS-FRI-REST-REST, would that be too much for recovery? I'm talking same movements every time, and half probably in a CrossFit fashion. The other half would be either added weight or just doing it but taking my time. Obviously diet is not the question here, I'm just talking about with enough food, would that be too harsh? Doing chins, dips, pushups, situps, abs almost every weekday. Plus cardio. And I might start supersquats again eventually, 1-2 times a week, but that's a maybe.
I was reading through some old entries around end of 2009 and beginning 2010 and I really miss being strong and doing this shit. I read a workout where I did 100 fucking chins in 20 minutes and 37 seconds (not that great but still 100 chins). Right now I can barely do one set of 5. It's really pretty god damn depressing knowing that just 1-2 years ago I was the strongest in my life, and now I'm almost back to square one. Granted, my cardio is close to the best it's ever been.
Really want to start getting serious like I used to be, even if it's in a different way. Focusing on bodyweight lifts and cardio PR's instead of focusing on huge squat and bench PR's, etc. Maybe start some CrossFit type cycles as well as continue to take my running cardio to a higher level. Not too worried about swimming, it's just a good change and good for cardio. I'm not about to worry about it because I barely know how to swim anyways.
I don't know, just a little frustrated at the moment. I'm 21 and it's hard to get over the fact that my body has deteriorated so much that the smart choice is to not go heavy anymore. That should be the smart choice when I'm 35 years old, not 21. I fear if I do go heavy my spine will explode, and I straight up can't go heavy with my elbow anymore.
Anyways, done with my rant and I'm looking forward to getting back into the game, even if it's a game I've never gotten into before. Thanks to all of you who have stuck around and supported me. Mainly Bako, Vain and Coke are the only ones left... *tear*. Although I do think I recently rediscovered Flynn... Waiting for confirmation on that. Thanks to my new support as well. I'm glad I got back into WBB recently. It's funny to think how much an internet forum and some of it's folks can mean to your life.
A lot of strength can be built through gymnastics. I haven't seen any on this board do them except me. There's a whole other world of strength training out there that 99% of people are either unaware of or unwilling to try. It goes way past your basic push ups, pull ups, sit ups, etc.
I wa in the exact same situation a year or so ago. I made my way back to wbb but was too depressed with my strength to go back to powerlifting. I chose cardio and crossfit too. It would take months, years to hit a squat PR, but I could go hit a Cindy PR right away. Obviously because I've never done it. I went out running and doing the crossfit girls (famous workouts named after women) and it was a lot of fun. A couple months later I repeated some of the workouts and noticed a lot of improvement.
Back to gymnastics, push ups are just the beginning. You can work up to ring push ups, clap push ups, elevated push ups, Handstand push ups, ring handstand push ups, one handed handstand push ups. Lol, it goes on and on. You don't need to press 250 pounds to be as strong as someone who presses 250 lbs, get what I'm saying?
And most of us are gone, but there's a new group here haha. Invain has gone ballistic and is one of the strongest raw lifter on here now lol. North just came back (sirtificate). Check out mrelwooddowd, he crossfits.
And ya, it is crazy how much we all 'bonded' (no homo) back in the day. I remember I had detards phone number haha. And would instant message both of you. Keith too, he was a homo though. Id get on wbb just to shoot the shit with the guys in my journal and have some fun, much less record a workout. You can still go back 40 pages and see some hilarious crap.
I "read you bro", thanks for the response... Keith was really fucking gay, wasn't he? So was Dan... Keph's married now though so he can't be. By the way, look what I found. I cried laughing at this. You made it... http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/6621...cker-room-talk I'm sorry I must have skipped that post because I never saw that before and I am not kidding when I said I cried laughing. That was amazing.
True with the gymnastics bro beans. I've always been fond of that stuff but know very little of it and never tried much of it. I see those vids of the freaks that do bodyweight stuff like grab onto poles horizontally and stay there and what not and it's so awesome that they can do that. So strong! I will check out mrelwood.
I would like to get some rings for the basement to be able to do dips, chins and.. pushups you say? Interesting. Seriously bro I've read probably 500 posts so far today and it's awesome. I remember first thing even before I showered I'd get on WBB and post a PR workout to the only people in my life that would know what a PR is, lol! Hopefully we can get a lil bit of that old stuff going again. I will have to check out your logs old shit.
BTW, we can curse on here now, right? I've noticed people speaking freely since my return.
LMFAO. I forgot about that. We all used to be so fucking funny (yes, fucking). That 5/3/1 bitch Keith, lol.
Detard is running a strength and conditioning gym. Crazy, it actually looks really legit and I see it getting bigger and bigger on Facebook. He's doing some big things.
I remember when I learned how to curse back in the day and we all got in trouble. There's a post in my journal where you come in out of nowhere and urge me to use "the new FUCK word".
Most of the new crowd is more on the smart side, less of the funny shananigans. Cards, chubrock, hjp, and some others.
And regarding tour first question that I forgot to answer, you can build your body weight strength base like you proposed. Eventually you'll have to split it like traditional programs though as the movements become more difficult.
Ballin as fuck man. I'm surprised I didn't break the *** buttons on my keyboard back in the day from acting like I was cussing so much. And I remember when we all get temp banned for bypassing the language filter. Those were some good times. Well I suppose as we grow older we get less funny and more smart, so that seems fitting. Yeah man, Dan is all grown up now and rocking his gym. Pretty sweet.
Thanks for the input on the BW strength thing too, I will start doing that shiz more often. I got a homemade PVC dip bar that's ghetto as fuck, a chin bar that's kind of ghetto but moreso "downtown Philly oldschool gym" type, down in our rented houses basement. I'ma start doing chins, dips, pushups, situps/crunches n whatnot down there and get my BW strength back up at least!
Ya, I refuse to become mature though, at least on the internet.
Sometimes when reading current comments I get on training, I appreciate the knowledgeable and supportive feedback, but I always hope Keith will pop in simply calling me a bitch. Lol.
I heard that brother... You know that even with people comin in and callin you a pussy bitch for motivation's sake, they come in and say it every damn day. Now that's some DEDication.
Just wanted to let you know Jed, that you're my favorite pussy ass bitch on these boards. Bako is just my favorite bitch.
Rounds of: Cheat Varied Grip Chins/Pulls, Dips, Abs
Cheat Varied Grip Chillups:
Abs, Knee Raises:
Heading for a run (treadmill) and some TKD now, will update run time upon my return.
Ah, too much of a bitch to go on a run. Those BW squats from Cindy really got me quads a wee bit toasty. I will go for a nice prance tomorrow.
Tae Kwon Do:
60 minutes, intense
Frolicking builds more aerobic capacity than prancing. Fyi.
Was your old account banned? I just noticed you have 56 posts.
Seriously Bako???????? This is certainly a revelation!! Thxz 4 da inf0. Vain... my old acct is still active but it got accidentally banned in some spam storm a while ago. I had Mason reactivate it cause it was a mistake but ever since then my posts have to be 'reviewed' by mods before they show up and it takes about 2 days. That's just too much lag for me so I started a new one.
Sweet cardio today...
Concept 2 and abs:
3000 meters @ 12:47
Couple minutes of rest...
1x250 m @ :50
1x250 m @ :50
Pretty sweet workout, that rowing machine is fuckin balls. Awesome cardio alternative. Was getting a little beat on running and with only 1 run this week I still got some good cardio in with TKD, swimming, CrossFit WOD and rowing. Off to work now.
Nice, I love the rower. Only used it once though.
Is it because you're a pussy? You should really use it more often if it's accessible. It even blows air on you. I know how you like things blown on you.
Don't disrespect your mother like that, she is a woman, not a thing.
Haha, no. Not accessible. And Alex V. says to not row until I have built up a big enough aerobic base running only. Idk why, but he's a genius so I will blindly follow what he says.
You should ask why, I'd be interested. I agree he's always right though. It seems like it'd do nothing but help further your cardio capacity... I was dripping sweat and my BPM was real high at the end of that 3k...
Base training is what I'm trying to do now. The main mistake people have when trying to get into endurance type stuff is going out too hard. Your bpm should be like 60-80% of max. If its higher you're going too hard and the energy path way you are aiming for is not getting worked properly. But I don't know shit dude, ask Alex.Quote:
For the first three weeks, I'd add in slow runs after tuesday and saturday- yes, directly after your squat workout. The other run, which would be minor speed work, would be on wednesday. No rowing, no sprints- these are things you'd add lateron ifyou were trying to increase your race speed.
Interesting, interesting. Don't get me wrong, my heart wasn't about to blow out of my chest. It felt like it was in that good range. I think we've been training for a while when it comes to cardio, you especially. Don't you think you're about ready to, if not already, break out of the "base training" and start trying to hit cardio PR's? When did you ask him this?
It's like a newbie lifter trying to do Westside with chains, bands, dynamic work, etc. Before he builds a solid strength base with the basic lifts. Is he going to get stronger with westside? Yes. Would he be better off starting out with starting strength instead? Probably.
There is a certain energy pathway, aerobic I think, that you need to build first. All other things will be built on top of this, so the bigger base you build the more you will be able to expand upon it. Git wut I'm sayin.
The aerobic system isn't improved by intervals or crossfit. It is, but the same way as your squat max is built by doing body weight jumping lunges. Think of your bpm as rep ranges, the lower the bpm the higher the improvement on aerobic. The higher the bpm and you're going into tactic acid threshold training.
I do want to break out. I hate running slow. But I still suck, 6 miles in one hour is my best run ever. I don't think that's good.
There are cross country guys that beat me in Helen. My pull up strength is no match for the ease in which they run 400 meter laps.
I don't wanna be beat in anything crossfit by endurance runner pussies, so until my base is like there's, I'm sticking with it.
