Good call Xellarz. Ripping a callous because "you're manning up" is totally unnecessary. I'd try chalk and maybe even the hook grip although you can mess up your thumbs good with a the hook grip.
I'd assume 1 leg squats are still going to use your back to the degree of weight you are using. If I were you I'd get that sciatic nerve issue fixed before trying to make it worse :) leg extensions...
Honestly 50lb dumbbells only get you so far, especially when doing the bigger compound exercises like squat and deadlift. And nothing beats those 2 exercises for lower body and core. I'd recommend...
