Why is it a bad day? He is one of the best to ever play the game.

No one has ever shown he broke any rules in baseball.

The 'bad' thing is how baseball fans and writers are reacting, like he and Mcguire are the only two people who might have used steroids.

Why doesn't anyone ask if Cal Ripken used?

Because the iron man record is not nearly as sexy as the home run record.

why do you say that? you have no idea what his diet and training regimen are like. using gear doesn't automatically make you a 300lb, ripped monster. i'm sure he couldn't care less about his appearance.

i agree with you, paul. no one has proven anything. i'm sick of hearing people bitch about bonds. he's one of the greatest to play the game, period.

sux2beU. I don't bitch about bonds, but I think people are allowed their opinions.

I don't care about "barry", and I'd rather not hear the talking heads make a controversy about it, but as I said, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and your opinion is to paint me as a "hater" even though I already said that I have no opinion on "barry"

I don't care if bonds was on pixie sticks. If he broke the god damned record then let him have his glory. Do you KNOW how HARD it is to hit that many home runs no matter what the **** you're on?

Steroids may have helped but they didn't ****ing swing the bat for barry. It took alot of skill, practice and effort. Leave him alone. Give him the record he deserves.

agree. it takes pure talent to hit homeruns like he does. I like what jordan said steroids didnt swing the bat.

Arod will probley break this record though.

I dont like the guy and i really dont care about baseball unless im at the game or when it comes to the playoffs. So im going to leave now

Barry has not been proven guilty of anything and I'm pretty sure 99% of baseball players are juiced to the gills.

Still. Arod will break the record.

as much as I don't like him as a person, I'll still give him props for doing what he did. Steroids or not, not many, if any will every be close to that record.

LOL I just noticed the * on the thread title. hahahaha

Up until 2003, it wasn't. Barry Bonds has never tested positive for a banned substance, and even if he comes out and says that up until 4 years ago he was on 5 grams a day, it doesn't matter, because using steroids was not against the rules.

Ergo, no asterisk by his record.

    Edit: fixed timeline.

So then your alowed to use steriods aslong as you dont test positive? I mean if a baseball player said he was using steriods but come test time hes clean, can he get in trouble?

Besides home runs... Barry Bonds has batted .328, .370, .341, .362 in consecutive seasons from 2001-2004. That's rather impressive right there... and has very little to do with steroids. Coordination, reading a pitcher... etc. He also stole tons of bases... when he was younger. He's a great player and athlete... and all athletes put on weight as time goes by. Just look at Michael Jordan... and baseball is way worse.

Regardless of steroids... he's a heck of an athlete.
