    SALT And Carb-up Meal(s).. ?

Would an extra tsp. or 2 of salt be beneficial during a carb-up meal? I have heard good and bad things about this.

2 tsp. doesnt sound like that much, just make sure you don't overdoit. If you are going to eat an extra 2 tsp. of salt, make sure you cut down on salt from other foods.

Eating less salt lowers your risk of stomach cancer and high blood pressure.

Here are some ideas for eating less salt:

Choose fresh foods instead of processed or canned foods. Fresh foods, especially fruits and vegetables, are low in salt.
Check food labels. If sodium is one of the first few ingredients, the food is probably high in salt.
Use herbs and spices instead of salt for flavoring. Try lemon, pepper, or garlic powder.
Limit condiments. Ketchup, mustard, relish, soy sauce, and salad dressings are usually high in salt.

The daily allowance of salt recommended by the Food and Drug Administration is 2,400 milligrams. The average American eats between 3,500 and 4,000 milligrams a day

Thanks for the reply bro. I know that too much salt is bad. But I have just read that salt helps with water retention etc. So are you saying that it would be a good idea or nah?

Wait hold up. So if I added 1-2 tsp. to my carb-up meal how much potassium should I add? Would this be a good idea or a waste?

Sodium/salt makes you retain water though. Isnt this bascially what you want in a carb-up meal. For your muscles to retain excess water etc. to give them that "full" look. Before competitions bodybuilders load with potassium to deplete water..., wouldnt the opposite be to retain it with salt. Please help me out.

    irish mike-
Thanks bro just checked it out. Even though I think that NHE is a little outdated, I understand what Rob is saying. However, it almost seems like he is suggesting supplementing with extra potassium.

I am confused a little still. With the carb-up meal(s), would additional sodium or potassium be beneficial?

You should consume at least 1g of salt during your carb up but you usually get it from the foods, because most high carb foods contain some sodium

Oh really? Okay then maybe Ill just add 1 tsp. of salt then. I know Gatorade has sodium and electrolytes. Anyway bro what about potassium should I add that since I am adding 1 tsp. of sodium?

... How much sodium is in 1 tsp. of salt?

In my opinion, I would add potasium not salt. Salt can make you hold water between the skin and muscle and make you look bloated. Potassium draws water into the muscle, which is what you want.

Hey Par Deus, where are you bro ?
    We have an argument here
Will potassium flush out the sodium?
Will sodium aid in bumping the muscles more?
    I don't know...
    Please help us!

    Thanks in advance bro !

Wizard whats up bro? Is there really anything up? I heard that up is really down? Maybe I'll just go diagnally then? But what about fructose? Doesn't fructose mean glucose? Is there really a such thing as glucose? Damn bro I'm confused.

    Hold on Cackpot
I think that fructose's molecules will help in breaking up glucose but I can't define the process.

Btw you can still have some sodium.I believe that it really aids in carbing up.

Really bro? So fructose molecule(s) do that? Are there really molecules in glucose? Wait I thought you said fructose bro? And sodium bro? I thought sodium was salt? Does salt really exist? Are salt carbs? I thought you were supposed to eat carbs when carbing up?
