I go for a hardcore off road mountain biking for 30-40km every sunday. I know i'll risked putting my body at a catabolic stage.
My question is, would it help if i down a high protein drink an hour before the ride?
Btw, how many riders do we have in here? =)
Chris, i tink it would help more if you told him what to do instead... i would personally try to eat complex carbs 45 min before and maybe take a drink with me do sip on during the ride

I don't have an alternative plan because that kind of aerobic work will definitely limit his muscular gains, no matter what he eats. No food will help to any appreciable degree. That was his question, would protein beforehand make a difference, the answer is no.
Chris, does that mean that i will loose muscle mass instead?
The truth is not always easy to take huh! lol
Cy6ex I think you need to sort out your priorities and goals...
Is your main focus to get big ? If so you will have to limit demandin cariovascualr activities...
I don't think you will necessarily lose muscle, but it will certainly hamper your gains.
I'm not looking to compete or anything but would like to gain and extra 10kg of lean mass. Maybe a change with the riding style and its duration will be a better compromise.
Thanks for the input. Cheers!
r u going that distance straight, or broken up in smaller distances? Maybe glutamine, and tons of carbs b4, during, and after ur ride will lessen the damage.
