I've never shot an AK, but I might buy one soon, just because they're so cheap. Are Romanian and Czech AKs good?

If I could justify spending 2500 bucks on a rifle right now I would have bought that gun the day I saw that those bank robbers used it in the North Hollywood shootout. I remember hearing them talk about one of them pulling out a HK 91, a .308 that they had converted to fully auto. I was thinking, an HK .308 that can be made fully automatic? Who doesn't need that?

I'm not sure how controllable (sp?) it would be full auto, but it is a beautiful gun. Expensive as hell though, I think because they stopped producing/importing them? Recoil is surprisingly light for a .308, it's a pretty hefty gun though.

IMO weapons like this should be safely kept as best as possible away from the public and non militia.

Anyway I surprised the SKS isn't on the list, but the fact it's so close to the AK I can see why they can't.

Maybe my views come from where I've lived my whole life....in a city. It seems everyone from the midwest or country areas love guns. I guess I can see that if you like to hunt....but In Boston, only thing people will be hunting with those kind of weapons are humans. I'd much rather not worry about easily accessible guns to people on the subway or when I walk down the street.

Most criminals don't buy their guns legally, so nothing you do will ever prevent them from getting one- if you don't believe me then watch the video below and they'll tell you themselves.

That doesn't make his statement false. It probably is false, but I think it's pretty clear he was purposefully exaggerating anyways. Anyways, I'm curious, if not for killing humans, what are semi-autos used for? Hunting? Seems kind of silly to me...Then again, I've never hunted before.

They're cheap because they utilize a lot of stampings instead of machined metal, the workers who made them don't get paid anything hardly, and there are 50+ million of them in existence. They are so rarely used in crimes (in this country) that it's not worth the effort to ban them - not that that stops the usual idiots. Compared to other military rifles they are not very accurate and their range is rather short.

Oh I missed that, I have a Romanian SAR-1, probably the most popular ak out there. You're going to need to have it refinished, the metal comes really dull and scratched. It will look amazing after you get the metal refinished.

What are they used for, well in most parts of the world they're used as battle weapons. I use it for fun. Thanks for the protein bar feedback
