I remember I was doing incline with 80's at one point. Now I'm back to 70 or 75s. Bah!

Accipter- congrats, but let me make a suggestion. If after you properly warmed up you went straight to 80's or 85's, you would be able to get more reps. You are doing 5 heavy sets before you even tried the 80's. That's very taxing. Personally I would only do 1-3 work sets of that exercise, but you get my idea.

I agree w/ Latman. My flat db workout comprises three sets of 6-8 reps with the 70s (right now, at least; I'm hoping to use the 75's next week, since I just got 70X8, 70X8, 70X7). I know, it isn't extremely impressive, but it's not bad for my weight (137 lbs.)

I know that if I were to do some relatively heavy sets before my work sets, I wouldn't be able to do even three or four reps with the 70s.

    sorry, that came out wrong

    Last workout: db press 70*9 70*7 75*5
    This workout: db press 70*10 75*8 80*5

It didn't keep spaces correctly, sorry.

Dude i would do only 2-3 reps at 70 and then go up to 85 for 4-5 reps- do 2 sets and then drop the weight to something you can do for ~8 reps

    just a suggestion

Congrats Accipitter, I have finally just reached 65's (6 reps) and I am looking forward to the day when I can max my gym of 100 for reps.

    Doc-
Would you suggest doing the heavier weights first as a general rule (after warmups) and then dropping to more of the 8-12 range for the following sets? I have generally been pyramiding up, however I notice some of ppl on this site seem to push their heavest weight in their first set.

    Accipiter,
Hom many years of workout it took you to conquer 80lbs? I am stuck at 60lbs (6 months into gym, 4 months into serious lifting).

    Am I doing anything wrong?

serious lifting? since last july, I knew what everything was in the gym, as I've been there for 3 years now, I just didn't really get my stuff together till last july. I wish I was stuck at the 60's 4 months into serious training.

Accipter- I still go along with what I said earlier and what doc said. I only use the lighter sets as warmups and then hit the heavy stuff. If I want to do a set with higher reps after, I'll lower the weight.

what do your routines look like?

so latman, and doc, you would go something like this:

    85-4 or 5 80 6 or so 75 for 8?

Whatever you can do. Once I'm warmed up I want to go as heavy as possible where I still hit my desired reps. After that I go by feel.

the thing is though, most people on this sight suggest a 10 8 6 rep scheme for things like db presses
