I think it depends on your goals. Are you doing cardio to help burn calories or to condition your heart and lungs?

I run five miles a night, four to five nights a week for fat loss and cardio conditioning. I am cutting right now and the total time spent running per night works out to 40-45 minutes. It seems to be working just fine.

I just started running on a treadmill 2 weeks ago.

I've been doing it Mon - Fri at work during my lunch break.

Time varies from 15 - 25 minutes and I do intervals of walking at incline and running.

I try to keep my heart rate from 160 - 190 the entire time though.
