Hi everyone,
Trying to find this out but having no luck - i'm currently buying cheap flaxseed from the supermarket and then grinding it up and having it in my shakes. However, i would like to know how many tablespoons of ground flaxseed = how many grams of oil. Then i can work out how much to take along with my fish oil.
Any ideas?
Impossible is nothing
I can't help you there, but you could look at the nutritional statistics for ground flaxseed and compare fat content to a tablespoon of flax oil. Just a thought.
I like flax meal a lot..really good fiber![]()
OK, so i kinda figured it out.
I think a tablespoon of flaxseed should have around 10.5grams of fat, a good percentage is ALA's (around 50%). Also around 7grams of fibre.
It works out SO much cheaper than buying the oil, plus you get the added benefit of the lignan's in the husks / loads of fibre.
Typical Fatty Acid Content %
Palmitic acid 6.0
Stearic acid 2.5
Arachidic acid 0.5
Oleic acid 19.0
Linoleic acid 24.1
Linolenic acid 47.4
Other 0.5
So, doesn't look too bad. I love my ground flax
