    mucus in feces

I can't recall how long this has been going on for, but occasionally after taking a dump there seems to be mucus along with my poop. It almost looks like a cross between spit and semen. I haven't been having any other symptoms or anything. My mother does have ulcerative colitis, I'm not sure if it's something hereditary though....
I'm sure it's nothing to be worried about, think it could it be due to my diet? Last thing I want to do is go to a doc and have him checking out my butthole, especially if nothing is wrong.

I really don't think that is something to just blow off. I would let your doctor know and get checked out!

It's possibly UC or Crohns. Both require medication to maintain some semblance or normalcy. The sooner you get it checked the better off you'll be.

I had Crohns and have done a lot of research on it. Mucus in the poop was never one of the symptoms I have read about.

I said possibly......depending on how and where Crohns affects the GI tract I'd think mucus in the poop isn't out of the question.
You had Crohns? I thought it was a permanent condition with periods of remission?

I was falsely diagnosed. My brother has it. I can't be in remission if I never experienced it.

Happens with a lot of forms of IBS and IBD as well. With a family history in colitis, though, you'd be nuts not to bring this up to your family doctor.

    WARNING*** disgusting post ahead:

I think I might have something similar to this except it doesn't occur when I pass a bowel movement. It "leaks" afterwards and throughout the day. However, for me it doesn't look like mucus. It's like a greenish yellow liquid at times. This has been going on for me ever since about 2006, after I was dealing with a constipation problem. I brushed it off and ignored it to this day, hoping it would go away, but it hasn't. I figure if it was anything cancerous/harmful, I would have died by now.

From the research I've done over the net, it sounds like I just have a weak sphincter, and that the liquid could just be fats or something. The conclusion I came to was that there's not really much I can do about it. I'm not 100% sure though, and I'm ****ing scared to death to go a doctor. I don't want any damn camera "up there" or crap like that. I really don't know what to do.

Listen, with all due respect, bro, that is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. GO. SEE. A. DOCTOR. A camera up your ass and minor irritation for 5-10 minutes or dealing with this condition (and having it perhaps GET WORSE?) for the rest of your life? Come on, now, that's an easy choice. Who knows, a DOCTOR might be able to recommend some simple lifestyle choies (less fat in diet? who knows, I'm no MD.) that could fix this problem entirely for you. Seriously, bro, get in to a doc.

Amen to that. Or, you can live with a leaky butt the rest of your life. That can't be good. If you just stretched the sphincter muscle or something by passing a big log, that's probably easily correctable with some...sphincter reps? It sounds to me, though, like something else is leaking and it's too runny to be contained...sorta like when you have diarrhea and it's more work to keep it in. This gets worse to talk about the more I type.

I would totally go get that checked.

That goes for the OP as well. The title of this thread made me go "wtf?" Don't be scared..just go. You guys aren't gonna surprise a doctor, and if it's not causing you discomfort and has been going on a while, it's probably not a big deal and can be easily treated.

eh, it's only happened like 3-5 times before (in my entire life), hasn't happened in a while now, not gonna bother unless it's consistent. It could've just been somehting I ate.
